As he slid the door open and slunk inside, Draco hoped that he had made some kind of an entrance, as he was fashionably late to the very important Prefects meeting.

It didn't matter that much to him.

He just hoped that he hadn't upset Hermione very much.

He could feel eyes burning into the back of his head. But he knew that out of all the eyes, ones filled with lust or hatred, the eyes he wanted to be looking at him were not.

"Please don't save your breath now Granger. Just because I walked in doesn't mean that you don't have to stop boring these midgets. Please continue wasting their time."

He sneered hoping the smirk he planted on his face looked convincing.

Even though she would never admit it, he knew that he had hurt her.

Why did he have to do that? Why did he have to sit here and make her feel low?

But she is low compared to you, he reminded himself. She is muggle-born. There is no way that it would ever work.

Every feeling that he had been feeling ever since this obsession had started was boiling up inside him.

All of the sudden he burst.

His leg swung out and collided with something solid.

The next few seconds were a blur.

All he remembered was that he could hear screams and see glass shards flying everywhere.

And then the one voice he never wanted to hear yelling, was yelling. And it was yelling at him.

"Damnit Malfoy, what is your problem? If you didn't like this week's topic you could have left and come back later when we were discussing world's biggest gits."

She winced as though in pain and it was then that Malfoy realized that she was clutching her leg, which was bleeding like Niagara Falls.

He was sure that this time the panic in his voice was noticeable, but it couldn't be helped.

"Go get help you lot," she heard him say.

It was getting hard to see because the pain in her leg was raging war on her body.

He must have kicked her with all the hatred he felt towards her.

But if that was the thing then why was he coming nearer to her? Why?

She fought hard to stay awake because she didn't feel safe around him.

Not alone.

Not yet.

But when he touched her forehead and stroked the hair out of her eyes, she felt at peace.

She felt calm.

But she had to be strong next to him. She couldn't let him know that she cared.

"Leave me alone Malfoy," she said gasping in pain.

"I'm sorry Hermione. I'm so sorry," he said with a waver in his voice.

She was certain she could see a tear in his eye. But before she could find out the truth behind the tear, she blacked out.

The beautiful head that he had been holding suddenly became limp.

He felt lost. How could he have let this happen? Why did he have to do this?

He finally left the compartment before anyone figured that he was still in there with her.

But before he did, he kissed her lightly on the forehead, and prayed to whoever was listening for the strength to move on.
