Chapter 1: LEO!!!

This summer was one of the most difficult summers of Hermione Granger’s life.

First off, she had to spend a whole summer, away from school, away from friends, and most especially, away from Harry.

She didn’t understand how he could put up with it. He had just lost one more close relation and she knew Harry was going to take the blame. The five, almost six years she had spent with him didn’t count for nothing you know. He would be holed up in that god-forsaken hell-hole with a family of the most prejudice muggles she had ever come across! Last year had been one thing but this year, even she was feeling the strain unbearably much. At the end of last year, he had barely spoken more than a sentence in their conversations that she was afraid for his sanity. And what about that prophecy? Hermione was practically dying to know what it had said because that was the subject of one of her more favorite books, which was saying something.

    Secondly, Harry again.

All last year she had been surveying him with her eyes, but she didn’t exactly know why. She labeled it as a mother’s worry sort of thing but only recently had she realized what it meant. She loved him. She loved his hair, his eyes, his courage, his bravery, and almost everything about his personality, minus the anger problems of course. It was now a certain hobby of hers to make little letters to tell him how she felt about him but she was too shy to tell him. They would always end up in the trash bin, claiming that it was a terrible one and that the next one would surely be sent. Though they never would.

Hermione was finishing up another one at moment, actually. This one felt different however. There was a lot of meaning to it though she did not solely focus her letter on her feelings. It would have been a good one to send, but yet again Hermione could not suck up the courage to send it. She knew Harry would never have this trouble, with all his courage, she thought as she closed her eyes to go to sleep that night, but not before letting her new owl, Leo, out.

The next day went fairly well, except for the slight hitch that afternoon. She was studying her text books for potions that year, when Leo soared in through the window and perched himself proudly before her. He had once again managed to bring a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers from who knows who’s garden as a present for his owner. It was all fine and dandy with her had she not already had two full to brimming vases. And it was while she was dealing with the bundle that Leo, the trouble-making owl he was, picked up the letter that Hermione had never planned on sending. Yep, it was her love note Leo had picked up and was proceeding to fly out the window with. Hermione squeaked in her haste to retrieve the letter but it was too late, the owl had already left the building.

Hermione groaned as she flopped back onto her bed staring into space just imagining Harry’s reaction. “How could you have been so stupid , Hermione! Leaving a note out like that! Why didn’t you just crumple it up and throw it away like all the others?” But Hermione already knew the answer to that question, she had found that letter special.

“Ugh, its gonna be hard to face him again.”

Meanwhile, Harry also found himself, flopped down on his bed, staring at nothing except empty space. It was definitely hard to go back to the Dursley’s but then again he was able to escape from his friend’s worried glances, even if he wasn’t sure he wanted to be alone. He had nothing to think about, talk about, or do that didn’t bring his mind back to Sirius.

Again, it was his fault for someone else’s death. Sure, it was Voldemort that was doing the killings but he was leading them to their execution. It also made him worry that his friends would be reluctant to associate with him, but then again, after hearing the prophecy he wasn’t sure that he wanted them to be around anyways.

To at least attempt to take his mind off what had happened (and what would happen) he had started writing letters frequently. The only problem was that he was now feeling awkward with Hermione. He could write letters as easy as pie to Ron; all he had to d was ask about quid ditch, most importantly the Chudley Cannons, and they would have mile long letters for which Harry yearned for every moment of the day. It was a different story with Hermione , though new feelings were coming through to him that he never thought he would have. There was no other word for it: Love! He practically shinned at the thought of her and his stomach twisted in knots. She had been sending him basic letters about him studying and occasionally asking him if he was okay about what happened with Sirius. He replied, but they were void of everything he really did want to say.

Speak of the devil, however, here comes Hermione’s owl…….
