Chapter Two- A Night Time Chat

~*~

It was near 10 o'clock that evening when Hermione was reading her Arithmancy book on her bed in her Head Girl room. She loved Arithmancy with a passion. It reminded her of Algebra in Muggle grade school, which was her best subject. Hermione had always loved forms of math, but Algebra and Arithmancy were by far her favorites. She was just finishing of her assigned section when she heard a knock on the door.

"Hermione?" Hermione smiled as she recognized the voice of her best friend Ginny Weasley.

"Come in Ginny!" Hermione called out. Hermione knew she could talk to Ginny about things that she couldn't with Ron and Harry. The two boys just wouldn't understand. After all, a girl's mind works in quizzical ways. Especially from the vantage point of a guy.

Ginny entered the room with a smile on her face, brown eyes glittering with excitement. She sat down at the foot of Hermione's bed. Hermione asked the red-head, "So what's going on?" Ginny was leaving the next day, so Hermione thought that maybe she just wanted a last minute chat.

"Well, tomorrow I leave." Ginny was beating around the bush. She was staring intently at the ground, obviously uncomfortable. "Hermione, I'm going to miss you." Then Ginny stood up and began pacing, red hair rippling down her back. "You're my best friend in the whole entire world! You've always stood by me, even when I had that silly crush on Harry. You're like my sister. The sister I never had." Ginny had begun to go on incessantly, her voice gained intensity with every syllable. But she had gone strangely silent and almost whispered her last sentence.

Hermione had a sad look on her face. "Oh Ginny, you're like a sister to me too. You've helped me out a lot. And I'll miss you more than you'll know." By then Hermione had stood up and was ready to give Ginny a huge hug. "My only company will be Harry. I won't even have Parvati or Lavender." Hermione hugged Ginny, who had calmed down by then.

After breaking away, Ginny said, "Thanks Hermione. I feel better now. But you have to reply to my every owl!" Ginny smiled while making this demand.

Hermione laughed out loud and agreed to the demand. "Okay Ginny. Promise." Hermione paused before looking right at Ginny. "Hey Gin, is there anything else you want to talk about?" Hermione's normal quizzical look was upon her face.

Ginny smiled and said, "Yeah, but here, let me summon some tea." Ginny quickly muttered Accio Tea under her breath, and some tea flew in. She quickly poured Hermione a glass. "One or two lumps of sugar?"

"Two please."

Ginny smiled, with the sugar, she slid in some mysterious white powder given to her by Fred and George.

Hermione smiled and asked, "So what else is on your mind?"

Ginny shrugged, then handed Hermione the tea. "Oh you know... the normal stuff. What do you think of the Darian in Ravenclaw?"

Author notes: Soon, Ginny's powder will make sense. Next Chapter to come soon.
