Author's Note:
I'm trying to put little snippets of songs at the beginning of the chapters because I always thought it would be cool to have a shoundtrack to life...I hope it works out.

Chapter 1

I'm dying to know
do you, do you like dreaming of things
so impossible or only the practical
or ever the wild

or waiting through all your bad, bad days
just to end them with
someone you care about
and do you like making out
and long drives

and brown eyes
and guys that just don't quite fit in
do you like them?

Lily Evans hummed a little tune as she pulled herself out of the oversized bathtub and wrapped a towel around her wet form. Taking one last whiff of the perfumed bubbles, she let the water out of the tub. She was lucky to be a prefect. This bathroom alone was worth all the hard work she had done to get here.

Lily picked up her hairbrush and began to run it through her long, fiery locks. Once she had looked in the mirror it didn't take her long to realize that something was terribly wrong with this picture.

Green. Her hair was green.

At that very moment, the door to the prefects bathroom burst open. Lily, clutching her towel to her chest, spun around to face a disappointed James Potter.

"You," she seethed, her green eyes shooting daggers.

"I'm late," he said with a sigh. "I desperately wanted to see your face when you noticed."

"Fix it," she commanded, her usually cheery voice low and menacing.

James' notorious grin spread slowly across his face. "What," he said innocently. "You don't like it?"

"You know very well I don't like it!" Lily burst.

James backed away as the angry red-head advanced on him. "You never know," he said, never abandoning his wit and charm. "It does bring out your eyes."

Lily glared at him, but stopped her advances. "How do I get it out?"

James shrugged. "Ask Sirius. He's the one who did the actual spell on your shampoo. It was only my ingenious idea," he said proudly.

Lily, as if remembering her half-naked state, clutched her towel tighter to her chest. "If you don't mind," she said a bit self-consciously, "I'd like to get dressed now."

James leaned easily against the wall, crossing his arms in front of him. "I don't mind at all," he stated with a cocky grin.

She glowered at him. "How did you even get in here, anyway? You're not a prefect."

"How observant," he scoffed. "Let's just say I have my ways."

Lily rolled her eyes. She knew very well that his 'ways' referred to a certain Ravenclaw prefect by the name of Elsie Thompson. The majority of the girls at this school would do practically anything for James Potter. They were all, in Lily's opinion, completely daft.

"Out!" She said sternly, pointing toward the door.

It was James' turn to roll his eyes. "I don't know what you're so worried about," he mumbled, turning to leave. "It's not like you've got anything worth seeing under that robe anyway."

Lily let out a frustrated shriek as the door slammed shut behind him.

Lily felt her cheeks turning scarlet at the laughter of her house-mates as she marched purposefully across the common room.

"Lily, your hair..." Lily's best friend, Prudence Welsh, stated obviously as she passed.

"If you don't fix this, I'll kill you," she said finally, tilting her head back to stare up at Sirius Black.

Sirius couldn't hide the sparkle of mischief in his eyes, or the small smile of amusement on his lips. "What are you going on about this time, Lil?"

Lily's eyes narrowed dangerously. "You know very well what I'm talking about, Sirius Black."

He looked at her pensively. "Have you done something with your hair? I like it. It really brings out your ey- "

"If you don't change my hair back immediately, it's 50 points from Gryffindor," Lily interrupted.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at her, implying that 50 points from their house was not very threatening considering his reputation.

"If you don't have a way to fix this, Sirius, I swear I'll-"

"Lily, Lily...." said Sirius, casually draping a friendly arm across her shoulders. "Would I do that to you?"

Lily looked up at him reproachfully. "Yes."

Sirius laughed amiably and pulled a small vial of purple liquid from his pocket. "Just mix this with your shampoo, wash your hair again, and POOF! Everything's back to normal."

Lily looked up at him disbelievingly.

Sirius held up his hands in defense. "I swear!"

"I swear to Merlin....If I wake up bald tomorrow, I'll have your ass....And Potter's, too." That said, Lily found herself on the way to the bathroom for the second time that night.

AN: Okay, I know it was a bit short...But I wasn't really sure how to start it out, and this is what happened. Give me time. And Please, Please PLEASE review for me....I might even wait until I've gotten a few before I post again. The lyrics above are by the very very talented Dashboard Confessional....My favorite. The song is 'So Impossible.' I realize it doesn't really seem to have any relevance to the chapter, but....Yeah, you'll see, I guess. Lator Gators =).
