Chapter One: Someone to Run Into

A lot had happened since the last year of school. Everyone was still a bit edgy. Some things still stayed the same. The students of the Slytherin house were not fazed by the outcome of last year's Triwizard Tournament. Their thoughts were only of how much they really did adore Voldemort. The thought of him coming back to power brought smiles to their faces. However, at this time of the year, Voldemort wasn't on any of their minds.

"Draky?! Draky! Where the devil are you?" Pansy Parkinson's shrill voice came through the thickness of the fifth year boys' door. Her fist banged against the wood as she kept saying that name. "Draky! Are you there? Open up!" Of course he was there. Draco Malfoy, now a fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, sat on his four-poster bed as his two friends, Crabbe and Goyle, held the door shut. The thumps came and came until finally they lessened to the sweet sounds of feet running down the stairs.

"God, she never gives up does she?" Draco asked with a bemused look upon his face. He ran his hand through his blond hair while getting up from his bed. Crabbe and Goyle then let go of the door and walked up to him. Draco stopped in the middle of the room and shook his head once again. He crossed his arms and looked back up to the door. There was no sound coming from it. Concluding his thoughts, he walked forward and opened it. Looking both ways he let out a sigh of relief. Pansy had finally left.

"She's gone," he said as he let his head slide back into the dormitory. Crabbe and Goyle stared blankly at him. He shut the door and walked back to where they were standing. Shaking his head a bit, he let the loose strands of hair topple over his forehead, framing his pale face. He then looked up. "I can't stand her, I swear!"

Crabbe and Goyle turned to each other and nodded. They then looked back at Draco and tried to say something that would comfort him. Draco didn't even seem to notice this little glance exchange for he was shaking his head, arms still crossed and looking at the floor. Grunting, he looked up and glared at the both of them.

"Honestly, the woman doesn't understand what over, means." Crabbe and Goyle blankly stared at him, not knowing what to say. Draco shot them both wicked glares and then continued. "What did Millicent say to you after you broke off with her, eh Crabbe?"

Crabbe shuffled his feet a little. Draco's eyes widened with surprise as he saw the boy blush in front of him. He shuffled with a laugh and then waited for Crabbe to say something. "Well?" Crabbe looked up and shrugged.

"He never broke it off," Goyle inserted. Draco's eyes then shifted to the other bloke standing next to Crabbe. Draco's wide eyes then got an amused glint in them. His sly grin sprung to his face. Shrugging, he turned around and headed to the main Common Area, hoping that he would not run into Pansy.

As he walked out, he heard, two pairs of legs hastily following him. He didn't have to turn around to know that they belonged to Crabbe and Goyle. Sometimes, even he couldn't put up with them. They were so thick. Shaking his head to rid himself of that thought, he made it to the Common Room and looked around. Pansy was nowhere to be found. Good.

Turning back around to eye his friends, he saw them indulging in a conversation with Millicent and her friends. He rolled his eyes and then went to the portrait hole. He needed to get out of this room. Walking forward, he pushed the door open and walked out. Taking in a deep breath of air he kept looking forward as he walked. There was absolutely no destination in his mind.

Draco later decided that he'd head to the library. It was currently too chilly to go outside, being that it was February and the grass crunched when you walked upon it. He watched his shoes on the way to the library. There was this nasty smudge on one of them that he'd have to clean when he found a place to sit. As he kept on walking, his eyes scoured the corridors. They were full of first and second years.

There was a group of fourth year Hufflepuffs who walked past him, eyeing him suspiciously and then turned, whispering to each other. His eyes trailed along with them and every now and then, one of them would glance at him and then glare. He didn't know what was up. He was about to tell them off but his feet kept carrying him away, so he had his eyes do it for him.

One of the girls in that group who turned back and looked at him, glared and shook her head. Draco glowered back at her and then her eyes got wide. Not knowing what was happening, Draco was about to turn and look in front of him when - CRASH. Something was there to stop him. He was knocked back onto the cobblestone floor.

"The hell is your problem!" His hair scattered across his face and someone was on top of him. He heard the fourth years giggling as they walked onward.

He tried hard to get up and get this person off of him but he couldn't. As they tried to get themselves up, they only tangled together more. Draco lifted one of his hands and moved his loose hair out of the ways of his eyes. When he opened his eyes, what he saw made his heart stop and a tingle shot right up his spine in a miraculous electric way. Whoa.

A quick thought ran through Draco's mind. He'd never seen more a beautiful creature. As she struggled to get free of him he only laid there, watching. His eyes followed every curve and bend of her body. He lifted his head and looked into her eyes. She smiled shyly, now getting up. She looked down on him and then fixed her hair. Then, she mumbled a few words that Draco didn't catch and scurried off in the opposite direction than he had been going.

As a sly smile crept along Draco's thin lips, he couldn't stop his mind from swerving from all directions to thoughts of her. He later remembered that he was still upon the floor. Feeling quite embarrassed he lifted himself up, brushed himself clean, and headed to the library. All along the way, he could not conceal his smile.
