The dank hallway leading down into the Potions dungeon reflected the dim rays of sunlight that trickled in from the small slits in the walls that somewhat functioned as windows. The clatter of boots on stone was one of the only sounds to be heard, accompanied by the loud, echoing ring of panting as two fifth-year girls ran down the corridor.
"Hurry up, Adri! We're late!" breathed Elise.
Adri grinned, "Don't you think I know that?" she retorted. "Besides, Snape likes us, remember? His favorite students an' all..."
"Besides Draco, you mean," corrected Elise.
Adri looked down as she continued to run, and scowled at Malfoy's name.
Elise noticed and sighed, "Oh no, Adri. You're not still mad at him are you?" the other asked.
"Well why wouldn't I be?!" she exclaimed. "He's a jerk!"
Elise rolled her eyes. "Just because he picks on that goody-two-shoes Potter does NOT make Draco a jerk. I don't know why you like Potter so much.... he's not even that good-looking!" she tried to reason.
Adri, however, could not be swayed. "No, you're wrong! He's handsome, cute, and brave." She sighed, "To bad he's too busy with that 'Mudblood' Granger to notice me." She went back to scowling as Elise chuckled softly at her friend.
The pair continued to race down the stairs into the dungeon. They reached the classroom and burst through the heavy wooden door simultaneously. Just as they flung open the door, Harry Potter chose that moment to carry his pewter cauldron across the room. The container happened to be filled with a hot bubbling mixture of armadillo bile and porcupine quills - a real vile potion designed to make the person it touched sprout hair. Everywhere. The door slammed into Harry and both he and the contents of the cauldron went flying. It hit a Gryffindor by the name of Jeff square in the chest, and within seconds, the boy had become a life-sized Chia Pet.
Snape jumped quickly to his feet. "POTTER!" he shouted, "Look what you've done! Clean it up this instant and five points will be taken from Gryffindor!"
Harry opened his mouth to protest, and before he can say a word, Snape barked, "Ten points!" and Harry closed his mouth and glowered.
To Jeff, Snape muttered, not caring, "Go to the infirmary." Jeff waddled as best as he could out the door. Snape looked Elise and Adri, and for a second, the two thought that they were going to get told off, but instead, he calmly told them, "Take your seats." He went back to his desk, pausing on the way at his 'favorite' student's desk. "Draco. Please assist them so they can find out what they've missed."
Draco, recovering from tears that came from laughing too hard, nodded and headed over to the girl's table. He smiled slyly. "Hello Ladies," he said in a low, suggestive voice that prompted Adri to roll her eyes, and Elise to just stare in a haughty way.
Inside, Elise was delighted he acknowledged her, but outside, she didn't dare let Adri know, so she was reserved and calm. "Draco," she nodded a greeting at him. This produced a slight, almost unnoticeable frown from him, but he shook off the cold greeting and that sly grin of his returned almost immediately. He stepped over beside them and began to explain the lesson to them, with a surprisingly little amount of flirting for the rest of the time.

The rest of the day went along normally, nothing out of the ordinary happening. During Herbology with the Ravenclaws, Elise got to tell her friend Ruen about what had happened in Potions.
"... and then, we didn't even get in trouble! Potter did! It was so funny!" she laughed.
Ruen had a half-bemused smile on her face. "Sounds interesting," she replied quietly.
Elise had known Ruen since they were born. Their birthdays were both in June, and were in fact, only two days apart, Ruen being the elder. They grew up in a small, cramped town called Devonshire, whose populace was prominently witches and wizards. They did everything together, and when the Sorting Hat split them up, they tried to keep things the same, only slightly succeeding.
In many ways, the two were alike, but in even more ways, they were different. Ruen had streaks of blonde in her light brown hair, which gave it a shimmering golden effect. Hazel/blue eyes peeked underneath long eyelashes. She was taller than most people, yet never seemed intimidating, as tall people sometimes do. Elise, on the other hand, had brown eyes and dark brown hair. She was short and her voice carried a sharp tone when she was angry, which, granted, wasn't very often. Adri was the most controversial of all of them - always speaking her mind no matter what. If Adri had something to say, she said it. If she was angry, you knew it.
They were definitely a strange group of friends - two Slytherins and a Ravenclaw. They were some of the only students who really socialized with other Houses, which also set them apart. And, Herbology was their favorite subject besides Potions, for the plain fact that all three of them were in it together. Today, however, Professor Sprout had sprung a pop quiz on how the plant called the 'Starmotle' could reproduce with seeds. Needless to say the trio had been gossiping during that lesson. All three of them sulked out of class when it was over.
"That was hard!" whined Adri, glaring back at Professor Sprout.
Elise looked serious, "It just means that we need to start paying attention in class."
Ruen sighed, "Well I for one borrowed Baird's notes from that lesson a week ago, so I did fine," as she said this, she still looked glum.
Elise stared at her quizzically. "Then why do you sound so disappointed?"
"Because," she replied, "I could've done better."
The other two groaned at their friend's total grade-obsession.
"Ruen," Adri commented, "You NEED to loosen up sometime."
Ruen just smiled. They split and continued their walk to the different common rooms separately.
