Under the Mistletoe with My Enemy (1/6)
Harry yawned and reached up to his nose to push his glasses up when he realized they weren’t there. He blinked and walked into the bathroom, staring at his reflection carefully. His glasses had been broken when he got hit in the face with a bludger during Quidditch practice, and they were in a shape far beyond repair. At Hermione’s urging he had bought magical contact lenses down at Hogsmeade yesterday. He had only put them in this morning, and had fallen asleep after Divination, forgetting to take them out.
With a nervous smile at his reflection he left the bathroom and went down into the Common Room. Hermione was sitting on one of the window seats reading a large tome about deadly curses, and Ron was sitting in front of the fire, staring dejectedly into the flames. Ron had asked Hannah Abbot to go with him to the Masque, and she had flatly told him no. Ron had done nothing but whine about it for the past few days. As Harry didn’t want to hear the never-ending list of why Hannah wasn’t good enough for Ernie McMillan (who was taking her to the Masque) he decided to just leave and go down to the Great Hall.
It was two days before Christmas; one day before the Masque, and the Castle was decked with Pine trees and green and red decorations could be found everywhere. Fred and George had volunteered to put up mistletoe around the castle, and as Harry walked under a sprig that was hanging over the arch leading to the Great Hall, he sighed.
The Great Hall was being transformed for tomorrow nights Masque, and Harry stopped in front of one of the twelve golden Christmas Trees to ponder what to do tomorrow. He had no date (hardly any of his friends did, for that matter) and was going alone. His mask was already made, and was at the bottom of his trunk, hidden from prying eyes. There was to be a mask contest and he intended to win.
He wandered over to the Gryffindor table and was just helping himself to a baked potato when he heard angry shouts out in the hall. He stood up and went over to the doorway just in time to see someone with silver-blonde hair stalk down the corridor that lead to the Slytherin Common Rooms. Intrigued, Harry silently followed. About ten feet away from the empty office next to the Potions Dungeon, Harry tripped over the boot of a statue of a nymph. He landed on the floor with a great oomph and the silver-haired Slytherin whipped around.
Harry groaned. He was sprawled on the floor in a most embarrassing manner, and before him stood a smirking Draco Malfoy, who had just pushed open the door of the office. Harry felt himself go red, and he covered his face with his hands.
“My, my Potter. Have a nice trip?” Harry reddened further and looked at the door behind Draco, instead of at him. Draco slowly let go of the door and sneered down at him. Harry picked himself up slowly and watched the door close softly. “You should watch where you are going,” he said, haughtily, and turned around to enter the empty office.
But, as the door had closed, he just ended up hitting the heavy door with a thud. Behind him, Harry struggled to keep his laughing down. Draco pushed open the door and as he turned slightly to the side, Harry noticed that he was bleeding. He immediately rushed forward. Draco turned around, and just as Harry walked under the doorway, he heard a soft pling, and he fell forwards; right into Draco.
Draco roughly shoved him up and Harry looked around slowly. The two boys were encased in what appeared to be a box. Harry tentatively pushed at the rosy pink box and was horrified to see the box shrink about a foot in length. Draco tapped the wall near him, and it shrunk another foot. The two boys were now about three feet apart.
“Damnit, Potter, what did you do now?” Draco asked, sounding highly frustrated.
“I did nothing. This must be some sort of trap…” It was then that Harry noticed a small black button directly behind Draco’s left ear. “Malfoy, push that button behind you.” Draco turned around and looked apprehensively at the button. Harry snorted. “What, afraid that its going to bite?”
Draco turned to Harry, scowling. “Of course not, idiot, but after living in my Manor for the past seventeen years, I have learned not to push buttons that appear in any magical device. You never know what may happen.”
“Bloody hell, move over,” Harry said, and he pushed the little black button. Draco recoiled, obviously expecting something terrible to happen. Nothing did, however.
“Okay then, that was pointless…” Draco started, but a very familiar voice cut him off.
“Hello there! Welcome to the Snoggle Box. If you will please look up, you will see that you are standing under a sprig of Mistletoe.” Both Harry and Draco looked up. Sure enough, there hung an innocent looking plant. “But this is no ordinary mistletoe, this is magical mistletoe. As you may have noticed, the second you stepped under the mistletoe with another person, you immediately became trapped inside this box.”
Draco turned to glare at Harry. “Damnit Potter! This is your fault then.” Harry just scowled and waited for the voice to continue.
“You will not be let out of this box until you give your ‘partner’ a good snog.” Draco and Harry grimaced. “In a matter of seconds you will be magically lifted off the ground and suspended just high enough so that no one will bump into you if they happen to pass through the doorway.” As if on cue the box slowly lifted upwards. “Please note that the Snoggle Box will shrink a couple inches every hour you are in here, and trying to force your way out will result in losing up to a foot at a time of breathing space. Do not worry; the Snoggle box will not crush you. Once it reaches a certain point, it will stop shrinking, but by that time, you will hopefully be hungry enough to give one another a good snog to escape. If not, well, I suppose we’ll let you out in the morning. Have a nice time!”
The voice shut off, the button disappeared, and silence ensued. Harry and Draco looked at each other in horror. There was no way they were going to snog the other. They were enemies for Merlin’s sake.
Harry sat down and leaned backwards, resting himself upon the cage. Draco followed suit, and the two enemies glared at each other for the better part of an hour, not speaking. At the end of an hour, however, the cage shrunk another foot, and Draco howled “I THOUGHT THIS DAMNED THING ONLY SHRUNK A COUPLE OF INCHES!”
He crossed his arms and blew a few strands of silver hair out of his eyes defiantly. Harry watched him amusedly, and shifted so that his legs were off to one side, and Draco slammed his onto the other, causing the box to shrink another foot. Draco cursed and stood up, bashing his head on the ceiling of the ever-shrinking box.
He crouched down, holding his head. “We need to do something Potter,” he snarled. “This damned box is too small for both of us to sit like we were, and we can’t stand.” Harry nodded and looked around the too-small box.
“You aren’t going to like this idea, but there isn’t much else we can do. Sit down against the back of this damned thing and put your legs over mine, and cross them, or something.” Grimacing, Draco did so, and they were soon relatively comfortable.
After a half an hour or so, Draco spoke. “Hopefully someone will come in a little bit. Snape’s always down here after Dinner, and as that is over in a matter of minutes, he should be down here to let us out. Then I can kill the damned Weasley Twins.”
Harry sighed and leaned back against the cage. The twins had graduated from Hogwarts last year but were back for the holidays, for a previously unknown reason. Harry scowled. He now knew why they had come, of course.
A few minutes later, Snape stalked down the hall. Draco pounded on the box, causing it to shrink another foot, but neither boy cared. They yelled at Snape, but he didn’t even glance up at them. When he had disappeared into the classroom, Draco and Harry stooped yelling, and they looked at each other with apprehension.
The Snoggle Box was, apparently, sound proof, and now, the only way they could think of getting out was to ‘snog’ and the thought didn’t appeal to either boy. The box was now about three feet by three feet, and both boys legs were jammed against the glass. Draco surveyed their positions before giving a resigned sigh and sitting on Harry’s lap, straddling him.
Blushing slightly, Harry then stretched out his arms and put them around Draco’s shoulders. Neither boy was very pleased at the arrangements, but it made them much more comfortable. Half an hour later, Hermione strode past the two boys, and went down the hall.
“Where is she going?” Draco murmured. There was nothing down the direction he was headed except for the Slytherin common room and Snape’s office. Harry just shrugged and flexed his fingers, which were beginning stiffen around Draco’s neck.
Fifteen minutes later, the box shrunk another foot, and they had to alter their positions so that Draco was sitting sideways on Harry’s lap and was resting his head against Harry’s.
Another hour of sitting like that, both boys were annoyed and hungry, but extremely relieved when the box didn’t shrink any further.
Another half an hour passed, and finally, with a resigned sigh, Draco said “Bugger this!” and captured Harry’s mouth in a searing kiss. Harry, who was taken quite by surprise, took a few moments to respond, but respond he did. Draco was clawing at the front of Harry’s robes, when suddenly, they fell.
They landed in the doorway of the empty office, a tangle of arms and legs. Once they had gotten themselves together, they stood up. Harry was blushing madly and toeing the ground. Draco was watching Harry blush and couldn’t stop the thought that Harry looked positively sexy when he was all flushed.
Before the naughty thoughts could disturb Draco any further, he dashed out of the room, towards his common room, his neck very pink form embarrassment. Harry stumbled slowly out of the classroom, and walked, in a daze, back to his own Common Room.
