Paralyzer

By Silvain Raven M Star

She'd been there every night with one friend or another, all of them members of some local band- The Marauders, some part of his mind supplied, not that he'd cared. She danced with them, to whatever was playing at the time. He vaguely remembered some of the songs, but he hadn't really cared about that either. No, what mattered was her. The way she moved, on the dance floor with Potter, Black, or Lupin. The way her green eyes sparkled as she laughed while she danced. The way she looked around sometimes, in between songs, and how he hoped her eyes would stop on him. They never did, but he still hoped.

I hold on so nervously to me and my drink

I wish it was cooling me

But so far has not been good

It's been shitty and I feel awkward as I should

He'd been there every night since the first time he saw her, when Lucius had dragged him to the new club for some pointless reason or another- most likely, because Narcissa was working there at the time. The club wasn't his favorite- not that he had one- but she was there. He knew she'd be there, every night, at the same time. And he knew exactly where to sit to see her, she always danced at the edge of the dance floor, in the exact same spot. So he always sat at a table nearby.

This club has got to be the most pretentious thing

Since I thought of you and me

I am imagining a dark lit place

Or your place, or my place

And that was where he was, on the first Wednesday of October, sitting and waiting to see her, working up the nerve, finally, to approach her. She came in, this time with Potter, and they went right to her spot. Still Severus waited. He stared down at his drink, clutching the glass tightly in his nervous state. He sighed, looking back up at her, sweat running down the back of his neck from his nervousness.

Well I'm not paralyzed but I seem to be struck by you

I wanna make you move because you're standing still

If your body matches what your eyes can do

You'll probably move right through

Me on my way to you

The song changed as he called to a waitress for another drink. Maybe this one would do him some good... He frowned, realizing what the song was- he knew this one, they'd played it every night and it had always seemed to fit why he was there. A slow grin spread over his face. It was time to change that...

I hold out for one more drink

Before I think I'm looking too desperately

Cause so far has not been fun

I should just stay home if one thing really means one

He stood up, trying to relax a little. He remembered asking Lupin, who he'd known for a while- better than the others, at least- what her name was. Lily Evans... Severus sighed slightly, closing his eyes for a moment before he walked over. "Excuse me," he murmured, glancing at Potter, who stepped back a bit.

"Er... who the fuck are you?" Potter asked, not quite rudely, but not politely in the slightest. Severus simply gave him an annoyed look before turning to Lily.

"Severus Snape," he murmured, smiling at her. "And I couldn't help but notice how beautiful you are." Lily frowned at him, as if she wasn't quite sure what to think. "Lupin told me your name is Lily... am I right?"

"Yes..." she replied hesitantly. "You're a friend of Remus'?"

"Acquaintance, really, but we have known each other for quite a while. I've helped him out of a tight spot or two before..." Severus said, not really caring for the subject- he really wasn't in the mood to talk about Lupin right now. "May I have this dance?"

Lily looked up at him, biting her lip and frowning for a moment, then glancing over his shoulder to look at Potter. "You don't mind, do you, James?"

"No, of course not...I think I'll go see if Sirius is done with whatever he was up to. Call me if you need a ride home," Potter replied.

Lily looked back at Severus hesitantly, then nodded. "Alright," she answered. He smiled at her, nodding.

This club will hopefully

Be closed in 3 weeks

That would be cool with me

But I'm still imagining a dark lit place

Or your place, or my place

They danced for a long time, talking to each other every so often. Severus found himself wondering why he hadn't done this sooner- they'd hit it off instantly, more so than he could've ever hoped for. He was amazed by how much they had in common- neither was particularly fond of this club, it was a bit too much for them. They joked about how they wouldn't mind if it was closed by the end of the month. They loved the same music, mostly, though his taste in music was somewhat darker than hers at times. They both loved to read, both had loved school when they were younger, though it seemed she was more outgoing than he had ever been. And he found himself falling for her more than he ever thought he could.

Well I'm not paralyzed but I seem to be struck by you

I wanna make you move because you're standing still

If your body matches what your eyes can do

You'll probably move right through

Me on my way to you

You'll probably move right through

Me on my way to you

You'll probably move right through

Me on my way to you

They left together, after a long time. Somehow, they ended up back at Severus' flat- he couldn't really bring himself to care how, he was just glad they did. He was also quite glad it turned out she wasn't seeing anyone at the time, though she'd apparently dated Potter in the past- that didn't bother him much, not with the rumors surrounding Potter and Black lately.

The next day, Severus woke up feeling happier than he had in years. And, for that matter, more comfortable. He grinned and shifted slightly in his bed, pulling Lily closer to him. They hadn't gone very far the night before, to be honest- she wasn't ready for that with him, she'd said. He didn't mind. She'd stayed there with him anyway, simply because she didn't feel like catching a cab home, and didn't want him to have to drive her either. So she'd simply fallen asleep beside him, in his arms- and it was probably the best feeling in the world right now.
