Chapter 10

The Mysterious Mr. Quinn

"Get up!" Aunt Petunia screeched.

"Coming," muttered Harry sleepily.

"Get up, Harry. We have to go!"

Harry sat up and looked at Hermione. "Go where?"

"To meet someone. Come on," she said and left the dorm. Harry dressed quickly and went downstairs. Hermione was waiting impatiently for him. She walked away, leaving him to jog behind him without a word and didn't stop till they reached the Great Hall. Harry looked around and caught his breath.

The entire hall had been decorated with posters saying Happy Birthday Harry. The Weasleys, his professors, the members of the Order, all waved at him and bellowed, "Happy Birthday to you!"

The party was fantastic. This was the first time Harry had ever received a birthday party in his life, and he loved it. He had a cartload of gifts as well. When the party finally came to an end, he said quietly, "Thank you."

Everyone beamed at him.

***

Later that day, Hermione, Ron, Harry, Hagrid and Lupin went to Diagon Alley. They had their dinner in The Three Broomsticks. Just as they were started over to the Ollivanders shop (Mr. Ollivander had asked Dumbledore to send Harry to him), a strange man came up to them and asked Harry, "Excuse me, are you Mr. Potter?"

"Yes," said Harry.

"I am Quinn. Harley Quinn. I have heard a lot about you ever since I came here. Glad to meet you."

"My pleasure," said Harry dismissively. But Mr. Quinn wouldn't let go. "May I accompany you to Ollivanders?"

"Ok."

Sure enough, the man followed them to the wand shop. Mr. Ollivander came out to meet them as soon as they entered the shop.

"Welcome back, Mr. Potter," he said softly, "Ah, you're wondering why I called you here, aren't you? You are here to receive a new wand."

"I don't want another wand!" said Harry, for he loved his wand very much; it had saved his life several times.

"But you need it, Mr. Potter. Just try it - to humour an old man, if nothing else."

"Ok."

He handed Harry a very peculiar wand. Instead of being smooth and sleek, this wand was elaborately carved all over. And the wood was darker than any he had ever seen. Feeling rather foolish, Harry took it in his hand. The moment he did so, he felt a sensation of warmth take over him. He flicked it like he'd seen Dumbledore do to make food appear. A magnificent table with delicious food appeared in front of him. Then, he gave it a wave, just like his first year. The wand started glowing in his hand and flew off from his hand. His old wand also flew out of his pocket to the wand. Both the wands merged, and flew back to Harry's outstretched hand.

Harry, as surprised as everyone else, looked at Mr. Ollivander for an answer. Mr. Ollivander was looking rather surprised as well. He shook his head before Harry could ask anything.

"I don't know what happened, Mr. Potter. Never have I seen a wand do such a thing!"

"What was that wand?" Mr. Quinn asked suddenly.

"Ebony. It has multiple cores. One hair each from the Founders of Hogwarts. I was told to keep it safe till the heir was of age. One of my ancestors made it at their request. It is a most unusual wand, Mr. Potter." Then he stared at Quinn. "You're a Mage! I've never seen you before. Where are you from?" he said.

"Oh yes, father, of course you remember me."

"Harley? How did you come here?"

"Professor Dumbledore gave me a task to perform. Then I'll go back."

"What task?"

"I have to teach Mr. Potter some of the practical aspects of logic, and its use in magic. Dumbledore suspects he is a Mage as well."

"You're not Harley Quinn!" said Hermione suddenly, "You're Harley Ollivander! I've heard of you! You're our new Defence teacher!"

"At your service Ms. Granger."

"Umm, excuse me, but what is a Mage?" Harry asked.

Hermione rolled her eyes. "Honestly, Harry, you ought to read more. A Mage is an enhanced wizard with a lot more power than normal wizards. Magi are really rare, and Magnii are even rarer. Your parents were Magi. Sirius, too. Magi are not only magically more powerful, they're excellent in logic as well. Like...Muggle detectives. The Big Four are usually either Magi or Magnii. Dumbledore is a Magnum. Voldemort is a Mage. I am a Mage. Your power has not been released yet. I think Professor Quinn...sorry, Professor Ollivander is here to do that."

"Excellent, Ms. Granger!" said Mr. Quinn, "I go by the name Quinn, though."

"Sorry, Professor Quinn. What do you think Harry is?"

"I think Harry is a Magnimagus. I also think that he is blessed with Polynimagism."

Hermione gasped. So did Mr. Ollivander, Ron, Hagrid and Lupin.
