Author's Note:
Ok, maybe it's not that good, but it was in my brain and wanted out. Dedicated to my loverly cousin, who told me the ending was weak and it didn't have enough detail. Too bad for her I didn't have the creative juice to fix it. Any advice would be gratefully accepted. Also dedicated to Cara, who I want. Too bad she's straight. Good thing she doesn't read fanfic, and so will never know I wrote this with her in mind... R&R please!

An Unexpected Understanding

Parvati couldn't concentrate. She had been studying, she really had been...at first. As usual, she had drifted into fantasies of her best friend.

*shift* Lavender naked, wet, and giggling after her morning shower because she had forgotten her towel again

*shift* Lavender lightly touching up her makeup in the mirror before heading to class

*shift* Lavender chewing thoughtfully on her soft, pink, luscious lower lip, trying to figure out a tough bit of Transfiguration

Parvati shook her head and tried to clear her mind of the blonde girl. Honestly, she had a Potions essay to finish! After struggling with her mutinous thoughts for a while more, she gave up and thumped her head down on the table.

"She's straight, you know," a voice came from the other side of the large library desk. Parvati groaned and looked up. Pansy Parkinson, naturally. The black-haired Slytherin had a habit of showing up whenever Parvati was upset about something. It was as if she had a Despondent Gryffindor Radar of some sort. Buffing her nails on her uniform's sweater and looking bored, Pansy continued. "She's not like us. You don't have a snowball's chance in Hell. Move on, Patil." Parvati gave a violent start. Did Pansy know? No one was supposed to know! She was still in the closet, and if Pansy told anyone what she thought she knew, Parvati wouldn't be able to face any of her friends again, not to mention her sister. Not to mention Lavender.

"Wait a sec, Parkinson. What are you talking about? Who's straight, and what do you mean by 'She's not like us'? I'm not gay, if that's what you're talking about." Parvati let out a nervous giggle. Pansy rolled her eyes.

"Give me a break. It's so obvious you're infatuated with that vacant blonde you always hang around with. Anyone who sees the way you look at her must be able to tell." The Slytherin stood slowly and walked around the table to where Parvati, who was now shifting nervously in her seat, was sitting. "Oh, and I was slightly tipped off by the little drawings of you and her kissing. And the words 'Parv + Lav = Tru Luv 4 ever' all over your Potions essay." As Pansy smirked, Parvati's head dropped in shame. She knew she was caught.

Pansy reached out tipped the other girl's head up to force eye contact. "Look Patil, you can do better than that airheaded life-sized doll." Parvati glared. "Don't give me that look, I'm just being honest. You need a *real* woman, and she's not it." Now Parvati looked confused. She wasn't sure what Pansy was implying. "And here I was actually thinking you had a brain. Do I need to spell it out for you?"

Parvati opened her mouth to answer, and abruptly found herself being well and thoroughly kissed. Before she could even think about shoving the other girl away, she was flat on her back on the hard library floor with a Slytherin straddling her. //Now there's something that doesn't happen everyday...// She thought, as Pansy licked and nibbled at her throat. All of Parvati's wits positively fled when Pansy's hand slipped up under her skirt and did unbelievable things that blew her mind.

//But what about Lavender?// her mind screamed at her. Parvati wanted to get out of there and run to her best friend. She felt like she was being unfaithful, but deep down inside she knew Pansy was right. Lavender wasn't like them. She would never return Parvati's love, and would probably be disgusted if she knew her best friend was one of *those.* //Forget Lavender, you've got a real girl here and now doing insane things to you on the floor of the library!//

Growling like some sort of wildcat, Parvati arched her back and urged the other girl on, bucking and clawing until she was sure she must have torn the thin shirt of Pansy's uniform under her sweater. Soon enough she reached up and bit Pansy's shoulder to keep from screaming as she came so hard she saw stars explode behind her eyes.

Pansy stood and once again gave Parvati the trademark Slytherin Smirk. "Now you know what a real woman feels like. Keep that in mind next time you get a craving for blonde bimbo." She straightened her clothes and turned to walk away. Parvati was barely able to form coherent thoughts, but she somehow managed to speak a single sentence.

"So, same time tomorrow?" she asked breathlessly. Pansy looked her up and down, taking in the flushed skin, rumpled uniform, mussed hair, and starry eyes. She dipped her head and laughed a small, but real laugh. Then she looked up at Parvati with the first real grin she'd shown anyone outside her house in her entire time at Hogwarts. When she spoke, she tried to sound nonchalant and look disinterested, but for some reason she couldn't stop smiling.

"Maybe."
