How It All Happened

"See, I told you this would happen!!!" James said to his best friend Sirius in an accusing tone.

 

 

"What! I know exactly where we are!" Sirius answered hotly.

 

 

James... knowing how Sirius' temper could get sometimes and the fact he was about to freeze to death encouraged him to suggest they went into a bookshop near by.

 

 

Once inside they started to look at the Muggle books. They hurried over to the sport book section and Sirius got annoyed...

 

 

"I don't understand this stupid Muggle sport! Only one ball and no one is allowed to fly! Quidditch is much better!" Sirius said as he flipped through a book about football. (soccer)

 

 

"Sirius! Shut up! Do you want the Muggles to find out about us?" James said in a hushed voice.

 

 

"Relax, James... no one's listening anyway..." Sirius said but he seemed to realize how stupid he'd been acting.

 

 

"That girl over there is looking... Oh no! She's coming over!" James said clearly horrified.

 

 

The girl looked about there age, she had flaming red hair that reached the middle of her back. And she had bright green eyes filled with concern and worry.

 

 

"Sorry but I couldn't help over hear your conversation... You know you shouldn't talk about Quidditch and such in a Muggle shop..." The girl said and smiled. "by the way... I'm Lily Evans... do you mind me asking who you are?" She said quietly.

 

 

"I'm James Potter and this is Sirius Black" James said and smiled, relieved the girl wasn't a Muggle.

 

 

"Lily... we're kind of lost... oomph!" James started but stopped when Sirius elbowed him in the ribs.

 

 

"I'll be happy to show you back to Diagon Ally... It's really very easy to get lost in Muggle London..." Lily said and smiled at Sirius, then at James, who was stroking the place Sirius had elbowed him and scowling at Sirius.

 

 

"I'll just let my parents know where I'm going, hold on" Lily said and ran back to a young kind looking couple that were examining muggle school books along with a blond.

 

 

Lily returned after a second and smiled at the boys. "Come on..." She said and walked out the door.

 

 

"Here you are! The Leaky Cauldron" Lily said when the pub was in seeing range... "bye then... I guess I'll see you at school" She said and smiled.

 

 

"Thanks" both boys said at the same time. Looking a great deal happier then before, then they waved at Lily as she started to walk away.

"How do I get to platform 9 and ¾?" Lily wondered out loud.

 

 

"We don't know hon" Her parents said with troubled looks on there faces. While Petunia was smiling.

 

 

"Maybe the stupid school doesn't exist after all" She said and smiled viciously at Lily who looked like she was about to cry.

 

 

But then Lily saw something that made her heart leap. "Sirius" She yelled and waved franticly. Sirius noticed Lily and walked over, followed closely by a man who Lily guessed must be Sirius' father.

 

 

"Hi Lily!" Sirius said cheerfully. He was obviously in a better mode then before at the bookshop.

 

 

"Hi Sirius, these are my parents, and this is my sister Petunia." She said and smiled.

 

 

"This is my father" Sirius said. "So, do you need any help getting on to the platform?" Sirius asked.

 

 

"Yeah! Please" Lily said feeling extremely relieved.

 

 

"It's simple really... you just walk through the wall! Right dad?" Sirius said and looked at his father for approval. His father gave a nod and Sirius beamed at Lily... Obviously proud of knowing something she didn't.

 

 

"Thanks" She said and smiled... then she looked scared. Sirius noticed and quickly offered to go with her. She smiled gratefully and went to say goodbye to her parents.

 

 

"OK! Lets go" She said her knuckles going a bit white, cause she was holding on to the trolly so tightly.

 

 

"Don't worry..." Sirius said reassuringly.

 

 

Then they walked towards the barrier. When they only had a few feet to go the started to run. Lily closed her eyes waiting to crash into the wall... but it didn't happen. She opened her eyes and was amazed. She stared around, taking in the scarlet

steam engine and the ridiculous amount of people holding owls and toads and rats and cats.

 

 

"Sirius" A voice called. She looked around and saw James running towards them holding a large snowy owl in a cage.

 

 

"James" Sirius said and grinned. Just then Sirius' father showed up and pulled Sirius aside.

 

 

There was an awkward pause.

 

 

"Hi" She said after a moment.

 

 

"Hi" he said back.

 

 

"What a beautiful owl" She said and looked at the beautiful white owl, witch was sleeping with it's head under it's wing.

 

 

"Yeah... I just got it..." James said and there was a note of pride in his voice.

 

 

"Oh... I wasn't allowed a pet..." She said sadly.

 

"my sister's allergic" she added as an explanation.

 

 

"Well you can borrow Snowflake anytime you want" James said wanting to get the beautiful girl to smile again.

 

 

"Really! Thank you so much!" She said smiling a sunny smile. "You are the nicest person I've ever met!" She added.

 

 

"Hey guys! What ya talkin' about?" Sirius said as he bounced over to them.

 

 

"Houses..." James answered quickly.

 

 

"Oh... I hope I'm in Griffindor!" Sirius said happily.

 

 

"What's Griffindor?" Lily asked looking interested.

 

 

"Hogwarts has four houses... one of them is Griffindor... It's the best house... all though I guess Ravenclaw's OK" James said and smiled.

 

"But Slytherin and Hufflepuff aren't as good" Sirius said.

 

 

"Oh... Then I hope I'm in Griffindor too!" She said and beamed at them.

 

 

Then she went over to some first year girls and introduced herself to them.

 

 

"Hi! I'm Lily Evans." She said brightly.

 

 

"Hello... I'm Rita Skeeter" One of the girls said.

 

 

"I'm Celestina Warbeck" A very pretty girl said.

 

 

"Grace Lockhart" Another one said

 

 

"Narcissa White" one of the girls said quietly. She

 

had long blond hair and pale blue eyes.

 

 

"My name is Sybill Trelawney" A very thin girl said and stared at her through large glasses.

 

 

"So... which house would you like to be in?" Lily asked hoping she had started a good conversation.

 

 

"I want to be in Griffindor" She then added.

 

 

"Well all of my family has been in Slytherin so I guess I'll go there" Narcissa said in the same quiet tone she had used earlier.

 

 

"I bet I'm in Hufflepuff" Celestina said sadly.

 

 

"I dreamt I would be placed in Ravenclaw" Sybill said in a mysterious voice. "My mom reckons I'm a true seer." She then added proudly.

 

 

"A seer is a person who can predict the future" Celestina said when she noticed the puzzled look on Lily's face.

 

 

"I don't see how the houses are different..." Rita said looking rather confused.

 

 

"Well, Griffindor is for brave people, Ravenclaw is for smart people, Hufflepuff is for nice people and Slytherin is for people who will be powerful" Narcissa said and frowned a little.

 

 

Rita looked like she was thinking it over...

 

 

"I think I would like Ravenclaw the best" She then decided.

 

 

By that time they had all walked into the train. Lily, Celestina and Grace took their trunks into a compartment and continued their conversation there.

 

 

"I want to be in Griffindor" Grace said and smiled at Lily.

 

 

"Do you know how they sort into the houses?" Lily asked curiously.

 

 

"No" Celestina said and blushed.

 

 

"My brother said something about a hat..." Grace said, but Lily thought she was just lying to get them to think she was cool... honestly... a hat!

"Hi I'm James Potter and this is Sirius Black... Do you guys mind if we sit here... everywhere else is full..." James asked the two boys all ready sitting in the compartment.

 

 

"I'm Remus Lupin... and that's Peter Pettigrew, you can sit here if you like" A boy with brown hair and tired eyes answered them. The other boy... Peter was rather chubby and had blond hair.

 

 

After Sirius and James had settled into the compartment the four boys launched into a discussion about which house they wanted to be in and questions about their families.

 

 

When the train arrived at Hogsmade station, they had found out that they all wanted to be in Griffindor, Remus was pure blood, Peter was Muggle born, Sirius was half blood and James was pure blood. They also found out that Peter was very

clumsy (He had been opening a bag of chocolate frogs with too much force and it burst open spreading frogs everywhere) and that Remus really liked chocolate (he had picked up every piece)

Everyone clapped when the hat finished it's song and headmaster Dumbledore stood up.

 

 

"Let the sorting begin" The headmaster said and sat down again.

 

 

"Abbott-Hans" A very stern woman called.

 

 

A boy walked towards the hat and placed it on his head.

 

 

"HUFFLEPUFF" the hat called.

 

 

"Black-Sirius"

 

 

"GRIFFINDOR"

 

 

Lily cheered silently for Sirius as a few more students were sorted... and then

 

 

"Evans-Lily" She walked up to the stool and placed the hat on her head.

 

 

"GRIFFINDOR" the hat called and the Griffindor table cheered her on.

 

 

Lily sat down beside Sirius and they talked a bit but doing that they missed a few students getting sorted. Until...

 

 

"Lockhart-Grace" was called.

 

 

She was placed in Griffindor and Lily went over to her instead of Sirius.

 

 

"Lupin-Remus" The woman called and a brown haired boy walked forward.

 

 

"GRIFFINDOR" the hat yelled and the boy joined Sirius while Malfoy-Lucius became a Slytherin.

 

 

Lily looked up at the teachers table. She stared at a huge man who had taken them to the boats for a while but came back to her senses when

 

 

"Pettigrew-Peter" was called... he joined Sirius and the brown haired kid in a moment.

 

 

James was next she thought.

 

 

"Potter-James"

 

 

James walked up to the hat... he hadn't felt this nervous for a long time... what if the hat put him in Slytherin...

 

 

But in a moment he had joined his friends with a very relieved expression on his face.

 

 

He looked over at Lily who waved and smiled at him when Snape-Severus was made a Slytherin.

 

 

Lily looked over a Rita who had just put on the hat.

 

 

"RAVENCLAW" was the next thing she heard.

 

 

Sybill, followed after Rita and was also put in Ravenclaw.

 

 

"Warbeck-Celestina" The stern woman called and Lily crossed all her fingers.

 

 

"GRIFFINDOR" yelled the hat and Celestina sat down at the Griffindor table.

 

 

The stern witch took the stool and the hat away after Narcissa had been placed in Slytherin.

 

 

Dumbledore stood up and said some weird stuff and then food appeared on their plates.

 

 

When Lily was in bed that night she felt extremely good and was looking forward to her first day of school the next morning.
