When It All Falls Down
Chapter 1
(Chapter by S.Sweetie)
Dear Mr. Draco Malfoy,
We know things have been hard lately. The whole incident of your mother is terrible, and the ministry is very sorry for this happening. We can only hope that we can find you a family soon. Since your parent's absence we have been very concerned about you. Being alone in that mansion of yours must be very lonely. Unluckily you have no relatives who are willing to take you in, nor do we have any other family who has thought differently. We are truly sorry to inform you of this, and we will find you a place to stay at as soon as possible. Thank you for you cooperation, you are doing a good job and stay well.
Cornelius Fudge
Head of the Ministry of Magic
As soon as Draco's eyes left the page, he felt a very irritated anger. Flustered, he crumpled up the letter and threw it on the shiny hardwood floor.
How did the ministry know he was all right? It made no sense why he had to go live in another family's filth. The lights were on in his room, but he felt darkness inside. So dark, and lonely, and nothing brightened it up. He took a soft sigh, and laid his head on his pillow. The air around him was sweet summer, yet it still smelt bitter to Draco's nose. Only moments ago did an owl arrive giving him the letter he had just read.
Draco stared at his wall; it had only felt like moments ago that his mother had left home. She hadn't done it intentionally, but it felt like it without her there. He was there when she fell, the noise of her sniffing than a slight scream. He had run out to see what happened, and his mother was unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. Seconds later she awoke in dreadful pain. As soon as she was checked into St. Mungo's Hospital, the doctor questioned Draco. He asked him all sorts of questions, and finally Draco answered with
"I didn't push my mother down the stairs, she fell!" He hadn't visited her at the hospital after the incident. But the doctors said that she was on the verge of Dying.
On the verge of Dying hit Draco hard. The doctors told him she was improving, that was the least of Draco's distress. What he had been thinking about lately was his father. All jailed up in Azkaban, and it was all Harry Potter's fault. He had threatened Harry near the end of school, and he was glad to see Harry banned from quidditch.
Draco's stomach was unpleasant, for he hadn't eaten a fitting meal in a week. No elves remained, which made the mansion bare. The day after his mother was sent to St. Mungos, the house elves had all left.
His lips were chapped from being parched. He should've gotten something to drink by now, but he couldn't find the strength to get up. He lay there in his unmade bed for another hour and got up. Draco saw the night sky out the window, and shivered. He had an uneasy feeling at night. There was no protection without his father's presence. The floorboards creaked as he made his way to the door. Turning the knob, the door clicked open and he walked out to the hallway. His stomach grumbled, which reminded him of his unpleased hunger.
Draco walked down the same stairs his mother had fallen down. The chandelier lights glimmered as the moonlight poured through the window. He got downstairs and walked into the kitchen. An empty glass remained on the table from the day before, and Draco opened one of the cabinets.
There was a bag of stale crackers in there, which he refused to eat. He looked uncomfortable at another cabinet, and opened it. Inside was a jar of cookies, he grabbed it and placed it on the counter. Before he could open it there was a pecking noise at the window of the kitchen. Draco turned around to the noise and saw an owl at the window, witch had a letter in its beak. He gave the jar one last look and walked over to the window.
Another letter he HAD to read. Draco opened the window and the owl swooped in and dropped the letter on Draco's head. The owl stood on the counter, and watched as Draco slowly opened the letter. It was addressed from Dumbledore, he could tell from the looking at the note.
