Dreams What A Waste
Chapter 1
The Late Letter
"Dear Journal,
I am now 17 and I have still not gotten my letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry... Although I´m half Muggle-born, I have indeed shone my signs of magic. My father doesn´t want to believe me of course, he´s totally against it. Today I was washing my clothes and my father came in. He never approved of my appearance either, my long black hair crimson bangs always wearing dark clothing. He thought of me a witch even if I didn´t attend the best school for it.
Like I said 17 is the age, just yesterday was my birthday. It was a little get together with some of my friends, including my best friend Jessicka. She also knew of the bizarre things that have happened to me over the years. I have always been made fun of at my school, of course why wouldn´t I? I couldn´t even fit in with the other weird crowd. So then I met Jessicka, she appeared to be like all the others; long blonde hair beautiful luminescent green eyes just as me. But the more I got to know her, the more I rubbed off on her. Along with my other dear friends Charles, Jeremy, Dawn, and the most wonderful man in the world Demitre. No, as I´ve mentioned many times before journal I do not like him. I´ve actually known him longer than Jess, we are also very close. We would never think of truly `hooking´ up.
Any ways as I was saying... there is approximately one week left before the new school year begins. Mother is full of anticipation for me to attend this year, she has trained me well. (She did go to Hogwarts.) Even if I have been going to the local high school I know everything I need to know from boggarts to all the charm spells, as well as a lot of new techniques on divination. I could already read my friends palms! So indeed I´m really excited, but of course father doesn´t know of my training. This has all been done in secret, you already know how he is.
On to other news, yes I still have not received my first kiss. I still think like if I was in a fairy-tale, I want it to be really special. Jess and Dawn have told me many times before that I should consider Demitre, but they don´t understand he´s like a brother to me. I do have a love interest though, but he´s out of my reach. I don´t even want to mention his name onto this paper, I dare not even write it. So cliché of me, I´m sick of it. But I just can´t resist. He´s just beautiful in every way.
For twelve years I have been writing in this journal with no assurance of being something more than ordinary... but I still have that dream. I still have one more year... one year...
I´ll inform you of the news if anything does happen, I promise.
Yours Truly,
Vivica*~ "
That afternoon she was with her two best friends,
Jessicka and Demitre. It was Friday, with only two days left till the new school
year began.
"I can´t believe I still haven´t received my
letter. I was hoping I had a chance this year," said Vivica with much sadness
in her eyes.
"You don´t have to worry about it. You have to get
it this year. You are one of the most magical people I know," said Jess.
"But remember, Jessie, just because you think she´s magical doesn´t mean the Ministry thinks she is," came Demitre´s voice surely to boost the young ladies' self-esteem.
"Don´t you dare call me that ever again! Besides, her mother attended Hogwarts. Why can´t she?"
"I guess it´s just not meant to be. I´m a dreamer living in the wrong world," said Vivica still looking down with disappointment.
Demitre got up from the brightly colored pink chair, looking back at it. And commented, "I would have thought that after ten years this girl would have gotten another chair. One that´s not so bright!"
"Oh would you shut up! We´re here trying to cheer Vivi up and all you do is talk about the stupid pink chair!!", Jessicka´s face was turning into a bright cherry colored. Since she was very fair-skinned much like the others you couldn´t really tell much. As soon as she stated that last remark both she and Demitre got into a nasty argument. While the troubled Vivica was still thinking of the letter, she had to go this year, she had to. Not only because she has been dying to go ever since she turned eleven, but she also wanted to experience everything her mother told her about every night.
Elizabeth Sophronia received the letter once she turned eleven, but of course her parents were descended from great wizards. It was a definite yes, that she was going to attend just the best. Elizabeth was so amazed at the wondrous things she saw around her, she studied around the time as the famous well known Lily and James Potter. In fact Vivica´s mother would always tell her stories of how Lily and her would get into the most awkward situations. They were the best of friends, until they graduated... the last she heard of her was that day, that tragic day. She burst into tears when she found out while reading The Daily Prophet.
Lily and James Potter killed...
She couldn´t believe what she read, although when Elizabeth told this same story to her daughter she had the same effect. So till this day, she didn´t like to mention the heartrending events of that horrible point in time when her best friend was taken away from her. Ah yes, her mother did also state about her son Harry Potter. Ever since Vivica heard that name, his story....
"Like I said many times before, pink is not an ugly color! And that bright colors are also a brilliant thing to have around the house. Might cheer you up a bit, Mr. I love the dark and I hate people and I`m not sociable because I feel like it! Don´t you agree, Vivi?" Jessicka was obviously still arguing with Demitre, but he was trying to ignore her ranting about her stupid bright colors. Then he took a glance at Vivica which was still quite disappointed.
"See that´s why I adore Vivi, look at her style... she´s absolutely unique. And I know for a fact that she won´t disagree with me about the bright colors. Right Vi-," he stopped himself to look at her once more, nothing was going to cheer her up today. Then he continued, "Would you like us to stay over night?"
"Yeah, so we can keep you company on our last days of freedom!" The sweet blonde gave a quick smirk.
"Sure, I guess. I do appreciate the company. Thanks guys. What will I do without you?" She gave them both a tight hug. "Although, what about if I do get accepted? We´re not going to be able to hang out like before."
"Well it´s only for a year isn´t it? And you could always send us an owl. I hope you get a barn owl."
"No way, snowy owls are the most attractive and vividly colored. Go with me on this one."
"I thought you didn´t like bright colors?"
"White is not necessarily considered bright-"
"Neither are you!"
"Grr..." They both began to argue once more, Vivica thought that it probably wasn´t such a good idea that they were going to spend the night. It would be horrible if she had to listen to them quarrel throughout the whole time she was trying to sleep.
"Let´s just go to sleep, okay?" They both agreed with her and they fell instantly asleep.
Later that night...
(breaks into dream sequence)
"Where am I? Is this Hogwarts?"
Vivica looked around astonished at the humongous empty space around her. It looked more like a ballroom, with the grand piano sitting still all the way at the end of the area. It was everything her mother told her, she then wondered why she was there? She had just remembered talking to her dear friends moments before she fell sound asleep.
"What did I do in the meantime? Who brought me here?" she said puzzled.
In the shadows she saw someone, not sure if to go up to this being or to wait but Vivica got the courage to go towards the person's direction.
"Excuse me, but if I´m not interrupting you in anyway may I ask you... where am I?"
Once she asked that question, someone who was really familiar to her replied.
"You are here, where you´ve always wanted to be. You´re deepest desires have been fulfilled... May I have this dance?," said the dark-haired boy with the round-rimmed glasses.
"No this can´t be. You can´t be Mr.-"
"Yes, dreams do come true, Ms. Sophronia. Now shall I have this dance?"
"Dreams?"
That word lingered in her pretty little head, the very word that kept her spirits alive. She could hardly believe it, that she was dancing with the famous Mr. Harry Potter.
"I still can´t believe it. There is no possible way that you are dancing with me at this moment."
"And why not?"
"You´re out of my league; you must have so many girls after you. You don´t need another one..."
"But this one in particular is the most special of them all."
Vivica blushed, and kept dancing in her dream mans arms. Yes... dreams... what a wonderful dream....
"GOOD MORNING!!!"
"Rise and shine!! Come on it´s Saturday, and we´re going to have lots of fun," Jessicka said with lots of enthusiasm -must have been the coffee.
"Whoa, no more coffee this early in the morning for you, Jess. Anyways, yes it´s morning so get up!" said Demitre with a big grin on his face.
"Did I?" questioned Vivica.
Both of her friends kept gazing at each other not knowing what to say to their beloved buddy. Jessicka went and gave her another one of those full-size hugs that indicated there was no good news ahead. It took a few minutes for Vivica to show the slightest movement on her face.
"I understand, I guess I´m not going to be accepted after all... I should break the news to my mother... again. She was so convinced that I was going to this year, she taught me everything I need to know. But I have to move on... dreams what a waste." She put her head down, and fixed her eyes on all her books. Which most consisted with books dealing on biography´s on famous wizards, astronomy, mythical creatures, charm spells, potions, and last but not least text books on protecting herself against dark magic. Seemed really useful nowadays, who knows who would be on the search to kill you. Another thing she remembered was that word that she seemed to repeat during her conversation just now.
"Silly girl, dreams are not a waste! You have to also look at the bright side-" Demitre was interrupted by Jessicka`s comical glance. "I mean... yeah you know... at least you´ll spend your last year with your closest friends. And not go to a place totally new to you, which it´ll take much time to get accustomed to the new crowd. Look how long it took you to get used to us." He managed to put another one of those cheesy grins.
"I actually agree with Mr. Pinky for once."
"What did you call me?! Pinky?! Out of all the names!" Vivica got in between the two and just told them straight out.
"You guys! I swear to you, if you keep on arguing I´m going to turn you into a teacup and saucer... I mean it too!" she begins to whisper, "My parents will hear you... Please I know what you all mean, but I don´t care I really want to go. As long as I get to experience the same things my mom did-... You know we´ll celebrate!"
"Celebrate?" both looked confused.
"Yes let´s spend the whole day together, and have the most fun we could have. I´m not going to make you guys feel bad for me, just because I´m being selfish in wanting to go to a Wizarding school. Also invite Dawn, Charles, and Jeremy... we are going to have a blast."
With those last words said, they all were united and got into Demitre´s car and went to have their fun. First was the park, since it was still early morn.
"Okay where´s the food!" exclaimed Jeremy looking around everywhere for the nearest sight of a picnic basket.
"You remind me so much of Yogi Bear, you´re too cute. Here are some sandwiches I made especially for you at home," said Dawn with a caring smile to top off her kind gesture to her much-loved Jeremy.
"I regret them hooking up
," whispered Demitre "It´s really annoying how they are all day. `Oh darling this, oh honey bun that´, Or no! The best one `little cinnamon roll´, or the most ridiculous of them all `my ice cream sundae with a cherry on top´, God will they eat each other all ready!" The rest of the group laughed hysterically, then the ones in questioned turned to them."I wouldn´t be criticizing, Demitre, you were the same way when you first got to know Vivi. You were all googly eyed whenever she was around." Both of them blushed as the words from Jeremy`s mouth sprang into their well known audience.
"What are you talking about! I never liked Vivi. She´s my best friend... I can´t," jumping to the already said statement and trying to defend himself.
"Then prove it! I dare you to kiss her right now, and not show any feelings for her." They all stayed shocked at this boys request. Of course Vivica wouldn´t want this to occur, she loved Demitre dearly but in his own words... `she´s my best friend... I can`t'.
"I don´t need to prove anything, besides I was only joking with you guys earlier. Can´t you even take a joke? Come on!" still as taken aback by the previous comment as the first time he said it.
Finally breaking his silence Charles decided to participate in this dispute, "Jeremy, you know he was teasing. We have all been friends since junior high, why would he truly want to piss you off?"
"Well said, now come on everyone let´s have fun, I wouldn´t want this day to become a nuisance," said Jessicka stuffing her mouth with some yummy cake. "Don´t look at me like that, I´m hungry... and you know Vivica makes the best cakes. By the way where is Vivi?"
"I´ll go look for her, she probably got very embarrassed with Jeremy´s remark," Demitre stated while looking over at the boys face with much hatred at the current time.
While Demitre was looking for Vivica, she was in the middle of the park just wondering. She already knew at this point that this was going to be another year without being able to go to the school of her choice. At her right was a tree with an adorable little squirrel going up with a nut in it´s mouth. She thought, that this creatures goal was probably just to retrieve a small walnut to bring back to it´s home. Once this modest animal did that, it would be happy... it´s life would be complete. Why couldn´t she get what she most wanted? Why couldn´t she get her deepest desires? Like in that awkward dream she had, where she had everything. Vivica was dancing with the man of her dreams, in the best school for witchcraft and wizardry. All that frustration was giving her a major migraine, then her friend put his hand on her shoulder and turned her around and gave her a hug.
"Why can´t I retrieve my walnut and bring it back to my home?" she cried not knowing that she totally befuddled the man in front of her with her silly metaphors.
Demitre looked do down at her and gave her a puzzled look, "Don´t cry, beautiful. You know you will get what you want this year. No matter what, I´ll make it happen. I love you too much to see you this way, I´d do anything for you."
"Don´t make promises you can´t keep. I love you too dear friend. I really don´t know what I´d do without you. It´s perhaps why I shouldn´t go anywhere, and stay with the people that truly care for me." She looked up at his beautiful dark green eyes, reminded her of the ones she tries to forget every night. Vivica knew that the man she in fact found irresistible was so out of reach in so many ways. Not only would he ever even give it a second thought in looking at her in any other way then a fellow student, but she´s not going to be attending the same school he goes to. Demitre kept staring at the dark haired girl in front of him. He'd seen her grow. From the age of five till now, he´d seen how attractive she has indeed became. But he knew it´s forbidden territory, so he would never dare. Although for the first time he had the courage to tell her, everything.
"Vivi, I have to tell you something..."
"What is it, Demitre?"
"I... I know we have been best friends since the beginning of time-" Vivica giggled at his statement.
"Oh Demitre, I know! You didn´t have to tell me that."
"No I have more to tell you..."
"Oh? Then tell me sweetie, the gang is going to be wondering where we are."
As Demitre began to speak about the secret that he had kept inside his heart for so long, there was a noise. It was the sound of a type of feathery creature; it began to hoot. Once the noble-looking creature found it´s target, it landed right on Vivica´s shoulder. Suddenly a thick and heavy envelope which was made up of yellowish parchment was placed on her pair of hands. They both froze as the attractive orangey owl left immediately to go back to where he had come from; he obviously completed his task and was ready to go back to rest. Vivica knew very well what this was, but she was afraid to open it. She looked up at Demitre once more, and once again her eyes became watery. Although this time out of happiness.
"This can´t be... it can´t." She still hesitated.
"Open it. Let´s see what it says."
"Weren´t you going to tell me something?"
"It could wait, `I´ve waited almost five years.. What´s a few more minutes´ open the letter, I´m anxious to know what it says."
"I want for everyone to see it! Come on, let´s go and tell them all!" She grabbed his hand and ran with him across the park until they spotted the group.
"Vivi, where have you been? And what is that you´re holding? Is it.. Oh my goodness!" Jessicka kept looking at what Vivica was holding.
"It is! It is! It is!" screamed Vivica at the top of her lungs. "I´m so happy I can kiss someone!"
"I think we have a volunteer right over there at the far end, right, Demitre?" said Jeremy giving Demitre the same glare he was returning to him.
"Quick, read it. What does it say!" exclaimed Dawn.
"I want Demitre to open it; he was there with me when I received it. And I want him to hold me, and tell me what it says." She looked at him with so much affection in her eyes.
"I would be honored to open it." He gave her a sudden peck on the side of her mouth. She blushed at the sight; too many things were happening all at once. She wouldn´t consider that a real kiss of course, not until she gets to kiss the one she´s been longing for since she could even remember. So right then and there he opened it, before he read the actual letter he turned it around and saw the purple wax seal. Finally with everyone gawking at him, he began to read it aloud. It said:
HOGWART´S SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRYHeadmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First class, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwuamp, International Confederation Of Wizards)
Dearest Ms.
Sophronia,
Another term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is about to begin and
we have yet to hear from you. As the daughter of Elizabeth Sophronia, you have
received owl after owl inviting you to come study magic among your peers.
However year after year we have not received any reply or seen you in our
school. We would very much like to hear from you before your last year at
Hogwarts begins and we must give up all hope of your attending. Since you have
not attended approximately six years, we are not able to automatically place you
with the seventh years. In order for you to be able to be completely established
in our ever growing family you will have to take the Magical Audit of Placement.
This exam is to see how much you know about magic, and how much catching up you
will need to do. You do not have to worry, there will be a couple of other
pupils who are taking the assessment along with you. We will have to postpone
the list of requirements until after you take the placement exam.
We sincerely hope to see you this
year,
Minerva McGonagall
Demitre paused a couple of times while reading the letter, he was a bit surprised of some of the things it had stated. So did everyone else; they knew Vivica only received this very letter this year. Why would she have been so excited to receive something that supposedly she had been receiving every school term?
