Year of Discovery

Prologue-Depression

Harry's sixth year was full of tears, bad habits, and painful memories.

He couldn't laugh at Hogwarts, because there were too many memories; good and bad.

Sixth year had been horrible for him. He had come back to the place where he was constantly reminded of the man who had been like a father to him and who had spent seven years playing many jokes that the teachers still remembered and sometimes stopped to tell him about some of the most memorable ones. He had played as seeker last year and every game he played in, he played his hardest. Every win was dedicated to Sirius. He also dedicated a few to his parents. He liked it when they won, but he couldn't be happy. All of the Gryffindors, except for the first years, understood to a degree. The only ones who almost fully understood were Neville, Ginny, and Luna, other than Ron and Hermione.

Ron and Hermione noticed that Harry spent so much time by their favorite tree down by the lake. He sat there almost everyday and sometimes even skipped a meal or the occasional class. He would have set our there all winter and frozen to death, had they not gone to find him. When they had finally found him, he was deathly ill and was forced to spend a few days in the hospital wing. It may have also been a good thing, because that was when they found the cuts.

Even now, when the year was over and they were heading home, Ron and Hermione could still remember how hard the year had been on Harry. More than once it had seemed as if he was ready to give up altogether. The teachers tried to do everything they could to keep him from doing anything rash. If they noticed that he seemed to be having an exceptionally bad day, they refrained from giving any homework. The only exceptions were Snape and Binns.

Ron and Hermione knew that all of the teachers were hoping that the next year would be better. The teachers were also hoping that Harry would start talking to Ron and Hermione again. They had noticed that he had closed himself off from them almost completely.

The only good thing that had happened was that he had defeated Voldemort. He just left Hogwarts one day and went in search of the dark lord. He wanted the evil maniac to pay for all of the pain that he had caused, not just to everyone else but especially to him.

Chapter One-Blankness

Harry's mind was as blank as a piece of parchment before he started on his homework. He could remember a few things, but there were a lot of gaps. He could remember the train ride back to Kings Cross from Hogwarts and about a week's worth of activities afterwards. The last thing he could remember was walking down the street as he headed to the Leaky Cauldron so that he could meet Ron and Hermione. He had stopped to help a little old lady with her shopping and had just started on his way again when he was hit with something that made him lose consciousness. He did remember landing on hard pavement, but he knew that whatever had hit him had not been a spell.

He could hear some voices, they were Americans by the sound of the accents, talking in the background but they sounded as if they were miles away and really hazy.

"What do you think happened to him?" one of the voices asked, a man by the sound of it.

"I'm not sure, but he has some marks on the back of his neck and head which make me think that he received some kind of blow. He also has a fractured wrist. The marks on the back of his neck and head look like the kind of marks you receive when you are hit with a wooden board. I also ran some tests, but all I came up with is that his genes have been mutated and that he is around 15 or 16, 17 at the most. I wasn't able to figure out how he was mutated or what abilities he now has." said another voice, a female voice that sounded very scientific and reminded him of someone he knew.

This was my first attempt at writing fan fiction so please be nice about it. Don't you all just love my cliffie? *ducks as readers throw food* House points to anyone who can guess where Harry is. *laughs evilly* This evil authoress feels that she needs to point out to the readers that this story will be long. *laughs evilly again*
