Chapter 8 - Déjà Vu

Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm glad you told us what happened with Lily and you and Snape and everything three months ago. I know things have been kind of tense and strained between us all since then, but as long as we keep trying (and everyone is, no matter what you think), I think things can go back to how they were. I wish you'd just told us as soon as it happened, but the important thing is you told the truth in the end, and also that Remus and I didn't have to hear it from anyone else. Thanks for being honest, and thanks for being a friend.

J - I'm nodding, if you can't see. But, yeah, thanks for, well, for everything, and I'm glad you're glad. Remus and I are back on track, and Snape hasn't tried anything since then, so I think things are getting better. Are you and Lily ok? I think you're right, though; everything will work itself out, as long as we keep trying. I hope we stay friends forever, though, as stupid and girly as that sounds, because you're my best friend, and I don't know what I'd do without you.

Let's hope we never have to find out, then. I'm smiling at you - turn around and you'll see. Lily and I are great actually... I don't know if you heard, but she's pregnant again, and it's mine this time. We're going to keep the baby, and Dumbledore said he'll do a spell to make it a long pregnancy if we want, so that we can sort ourselves out before the baby comes and everything. We're going to do it, and also we wanted to ask you if you'd be the baby's Godfather, just in case, because with Voldemort in power, we never know these days, do we? Please say yes, and if not, say you'll think about it.

J - That's fantastic! And, yes, of course I'll be Godfather. I'd hug you, but I'm too manly, so later on I'll drink something alcoholic with you to celebrate. Hope everything goes well, and tell Lily I said congratulations.

Hi, thanks for the congratulations. I really just wanted to say that, but I feel the note should be longer, so also thanks for everything you've done for me this year and thanks for agreeing to tell James and Remus and just thanks overall, really. You'd make a great Godfather for the baby, I'm glad you said you'd do it!

Did you hear James and Lily are having a baby? The Dark Lord deserves that information. Previously, we had thought that killing James would wipe out the Potters after his parents were killed in our fifth year, but now we have to kill the baby, too, so we should tell him. Anyway, this will all be out in the open soon, won't it? I'm tired of hiding my allegiance to the Dark Lord.

PP - The Dark Lord is not, and will never be, interested in you. Therefore, he will not care whether you are tired or not. You are the spy, and that is your job, so don't try to set yourself up for anything more. You could never be a real Death Eater, so don't bother trying. They're having a baby? That's definitely information worth knowing, and I'll pass it on. Oh, and don't worry, Pettigrew, I'll tell him it was you that found out. Not that you'll be rewarded or recognised for that.

SS - Evans and Potter are having a baby, according to Pettigrew. Do you know if that's true? The Dark Lord would, of course, reward whoever found out for certain, so don't worry about personal gain.

Lucius: It's true, Lily Evans told me just now. But how do we know the baby will even survive... is it even worth worrying the Dark Lord about? Besides, if you think about it, how hard is it going to be to kill a baby? Surely we could just kill Potter and the child once it's born. Not because I actually like Lily Evans, of course, but I've heard there's no torture quite like childbirth.
