Chapter 9

*Two weeks later*

Harry was awoken very early in the morning by the sound of Ron moving about the room. Harry sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes before putting his glasses on. He blinked sleepily at Ron. "What in the world are you doing? The sun is barely up."

Ron looked at Harry and said, "Lily is arriving today, she's going to be here shortly before breakfast, and be sorted, God I hope she's not sorted into Slytherin, anything but Slytherin. I bet she's going to be a Ravenclaw."

Harry smiled at Ron's anxious chatter. Harry climbed out of bed and headed off to the showers. He quickly stripped his pajamas off and stepped under the spray. About ten minutes later he climbed out and wrapped a towel around his waist. He rubbed another towel over his hair and then headed back into his dormitory. He grabbed some clothes out of his wardrobe and quickly changed. He went down to the common room and found Ron standing in front of a large mirror. "Harry, mate, do I look all right?"

Harry grinned at him and put his hands on Ron's shoulders. "Ron, calm down, you look fine."

Ron turned back to the mirror. "I just want to look nice!"

Harry smiled and went to sit on the couch. A few minutes later, Hermione came downstairs and smiled at Harry and Ron. "Well, Ron, are you ready for Lily's arrival?"

Ron just shot her an anxious look and Hermione went to sit next to Harry. He slipped his arm around her and whispered in her ear, "Ron's just a little bit nervous!"

Hermione giggled and Ron looked at his watch. "We should start heading down to the entrance hall now."

Harry and Hermione nodded and the friends headed downstairs in silence. When they were about halfway down the final staircase and the entrance hall came into view they could see a tall girl, with medium length brown hair, staring around, looking lost.

Ron's face lit up and he called out, "Lily!"

She turned towards the staircase and a huge grin split her face. "Ron!"

He hurried down the staircase and grabbed Lily in a huge hug, spinning around in a circle. Her excited laughter echoed throughout the entrance hall and Harry and Hermione sat down on the steps, watching the pair. Hermione reached over to grab Harry's hand and leaned her head against his shoulder, smiling. Ron had stopped spinning and set Lily back down on the ground. They looked at each other for a moment and then Ron pulled her close and started kissing her. Hermione said, "Awwww."

Harry studied Lily and then said, "I thought she had blonde hair."

Hermione nodded. "She did in the picture Ron showed us, maybe she cast a charm on her hair to make it blonde and its naturally brown, or vice versa. Ooh, or maybe she's a Metamorphmagus, like Tonks! But Ron probably would have told us that."

Harry chuckled and then after a little bit looked at his watch. "Okay I think they need to go get a room already!" Hermione began to giggle and it echoed down into the entrance hall, causing Ron and Lily to break apart. Ron called out, "Harry, Hermione, come down here!"

They both stood up and headed down the stairs. Lily looked at them both, her blue eyes twinkling. Ron gestured at Hermione, "This is my friend Hermione."

Hermione grabbed Lily and gave her a quick hug. "Welcome to Hogwarts!"

Ron grinned and then gestured at Harry. "And this is--"

He was cut off by Lily saying, "Harry Potter of course."

Harry gave her a sheepish smile and shook her hand. They were all talking for a few minutes when Dumbledore entered the entrance hall, carrying the Sorting Hat. He extended his hand. "Lily Davis?"

Lily nodded, shaking Dumbledore's hand. "Yes, that's me, what do I need to do?"

Dumbledore replied, "Well, if you will follow me into the Great Hall, you will put on the Sorting Hat, and it will decide which House you will be in. I see that you already know Harry, Hermione, and Ron so I assume they've informed you of the Houses, but if they haven't, they are Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Gryffindor."

Lily nodded, looking apprehensive. They headed into the Great Hall and moved towards the staff table, where there was a stool waiting. Dumbledore instructed Lily to sit on the stool and then he placed the Sorting Hat upon her head. They stood there and waited a few minutes before finally the Sorting Hat shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"

Ron yelped excitedly, "I can't believe it! This is fantastic!"

Lily pulled off the hat and grabbed Ron in a hug. "Oh, I'm so excited!"

Dumbledore smiled and said, "Congratulations, and welcome, Lily. You four can go sit at your table; students should be arriving for breakfast in about five minutes. Lily, your belongings will be taken up to Gryffindor Tower."

Ron took Lily's hand and led her over to the table and they sat down. Harry and Hermione were asking her questions about France and soon the Great Hall was starting to fill up with students. Harry noticed that several of the male students were staring at Lily, and he wasn't surprised, she was quite beautiful. Apparently Ron had noticed this too; he slipped his arm around Lily protectively. Roger Davies had been staring at Lily for a few minutes and started to walk towards their table so Ron gently turned Lily's face towards his and gave her a long, deep kiss.

Harry looked over and saw Roger Davies stop short, shock and disbelief on his face. Hermione just shook her head, muttering, "Boys..."

Harry turned to look at her. "What is that supposed to mean?"

She smiled. "Men get way too possessive of their girlfriends; they got to stake their claim in front of everyone."

Harry gently touched her face. "Maybe....sometimes! Or maybe, just maybe, sometimes you women are too beautiful, and we can't help but kiss you, whether it's in front of other people or not."

Hermione felt her heart melt as Harry leaned in to gently press his lips to hers, sliding his hand behind her head. She savored the feel of his lips on hers and he broke the kiss, but pressed his forehead to hers, looking in her eyes for a moment before leaning back and turning to face Lily and Ron, who were deep in conversation.

A moment later, food appeared on the table and Lily said excitedly, "Oh, wow! That doesn't happen at Beauxbaton! Looks delicious!"

Harry filled his plate with food and soon Seamus and Neville were engaging in conversation with Lily, and Harry knew she would have no problems fitting in. They finished breakfast and Ron said, "Come on, Lily, I'll show you the way to Gryffindor Tower, do you have a schedule?"

Lily nodded and pulled out her schedule to show Ron. Ron looked it over. "You are in all the same classes as me! This is great!"
