Author's Note:
hey i'm not sure whether i like this or not, only REVIEWS (i'm going for the subtle approach) will tell. i am a h/h shipper but this is one of my favourite songs and it struck me with an idea for d/hr. so i put r/h so they'd split up cos i'd never do that to h/h. uh uh!!

Draco walked into the Great Hall, expecting his usual reception. He got the glares from Weasley and Potter, but their sidekick Granger looked up at him, bit her lip, and turned away. Sighing, he pulled up a chair and took some bacon.

"I need to go to the library. See you later boys!"

"Bye Hermione." Harry reached for some more toast off Neville who was offering it to him.

"Again? The library again?" Hermione's boyfriend Ron rolled his eyes. She rolled her eyes back at him, blew a kiss at both, grabbed her bag and walked out of the hall. Draco saw all this. He jumped to his feet and slipped out after her.

Hermione felt him brush against her shoulder. A shiver ran down her spine. She turned and glared at him.

"What d'you think your doing Malfoy?" he simply glared back at her.

I'm trying not to feel you but

You just brushed by

He knew how she felt. She knew how he felt. But there was a big line between them, and both were scared about what would happen if they crossed it.

And if you dare to cross that line you know

My toes will step on fire

Hermione felt her skin burn under his touch as he took her hands and played with her fingers.

"No Draco. You know we can't."

"But we both know it's the right thing!" she sighed and pulled her sizzling hands away from him.

Ooh sizzle when its face on face

And skin on skin

I'm trying to keep you out

And I'm trying to keep me in

He reached for her face and cupped it with her hands. Two first years came along and stopped as they recognised the two standing in front of them.

"Isn't that Draco Malfoy?"

"And Hermione Granger?"

"Aren't they supposed to hate each other?" Draco saw them, grabbed one of Hermione's hands and pulled her into a chamber off the entrance hall.

"See?" Hermione dropped his hand.

"I know. But it feels so right Herms!"

One hundred million eyes behind these walls

Watching you

Hearing you

Knowing you

"No Draco. It's my final answer. I have to go." Hermione turned and walked out of the chamber sadly.

"You know you want it too!" Draco called after her despairingly. He went to Transfiguration, his next lesson. It was with the Gryffindors - which was just his luck.

When Draco got to the classroom, Hermione had already sat down between Potty and the Weasel. Draco sighed, and dumped his bag on the floor, pulled his books out and the lesson began. During the lesson he wrote a note to Hermione.

Dear Miss Hermione Granger,

Please meet me by the tree we met at the other day tonight. I need to talk to you. I need to make you see sense.

Best Wishes, Mr Draco Malfoy

That sounded all right. His father hadn't taught him how to write polite yet persuasive letters for nothing. At the end of the lesson, he walked past her and surreptitiously slipped the note into her bag.

Hermione didn't find the note until her next lesson. She took the note out from its resting place between her Transfiguration book and her Arithmancy book. She opened it and read it. Indecision filled her brain. Lucky she was in Arithmancy, so she could read it in relative peace, and decide what to do without Ron there. If truth was told, she was only going out with Ron because she was flattered that he liked her. When Ron touched her she didn't get that amazingly electric burning sensation that she got from Draco.

Keep me a secret

Keep out your arms

Keep my kisses off your lipstick

Stop me swallowing your charms

Keep yourself a secret

Lock up all your doors

I'll keep you out my dreams

Just you keep me out of yours

Hermione fled between the trees, trying to find the right one. She saw him leaning against one and ran over to him.

"You wanted to talk to me."
"Hermione, I can't take it anymore. I need you. Dump Ron, go out with me. You know its what you want."
"I don't know what I want Draco." He went to put an arm around her and she pulled away.

"What is so awful about it? We love each other - why shouldn't we be together!" Hermione dithered on the spot. Suddenly she pulled him into a fierce hug, and quickly let him go again.

"I don't know, maybe the fact that you're you and I'm me. We don't mix Drake." she ran away, back up to the castle. Drake, thought Draco, I like it.

Needn't not to notice you

But you grab my eye

Don't let embraces linger

Try to keep our arms untied

Next day, resolute to the fact Hermione wouldn't have him; Draco ignored all three of the trio. This seemed to slightly alarm Ron and Harry, who were wondering where Draco's smart remarks had gone. Hermione on the other hand, wasn't really talking to anyone and had already had three arguments with Ron in the half an hour they'd been up. Draco kept glaring at Hermione from across the Great Hall. Avoiding his gaze, Hermione kept striking up a conversation with the first year sitting next to her. She didn't seem to notice that the first year was actually backing his chair away from her.

See there you go again

You're making me mad

'Cos I'm drawn to this danger

Oh it's making me mad

All that day both ignored the other. Both stole secret glances , and both wished that it had turned out the other way.

One hundred million reasons to ignore

Of wanting to be with you

One hundred million eyes behind these walls

Watching you

Hearing you

Knowing you

That night, Hermione sat up in her bed. She couldn't sleep. Every time she closed her eyes she saw his face. His face from the other night, angry, disappointed, heartbroken. All these year she'd thought Draco Malfoy was some kind of non-human that didn't feel emotion. She'd been so wrong.

Unable to sleep, and being of the kind that would do something about it, Draco Malfoy was on his was to the Gryffindor Common Room. He got to the portrait of the Fat Lady, then realised he didn't know the password. Hermione pushed the door open at the same time.

"Oh. It's you." She stated simply, her hands falling beside her.

"Yeah its me. Can we talk in there please, only we have less chance of being caught." Nodding, she let him in ("Dear! He's a Slytherin!"). He went and made himself at home in a red armchair. Hermione sat opposite.

"I don't think you under stand this Hermione. I need you. I love you. Just the smallest touch'll keep me going for a whole day."

"Draco, I feel the same. Only, I have Ron to consider. Besides, it's not going to look very good - a Slytherin and a Gryffindor together? I don't think so." Draco leaned forward in his chair.

"Leave it then. Let this avenue of joy be closed off forever and never opened up. But I'll be waiting for you at the tree tomorrow at midnight - just in case you change your mind." He stood up, turned on his heel and left swiftly. Hermione whispered to herself.

"But I do want you Draco."

All I'm asking

Is for nothing

And if nothing is enough for you

Oh leave it I said keep me inside your head

Under your breath......

Hermione had made her mind up. She had to dump Ron. She didn't love him anymore, and it was unfair to string him along. She'd been preparing herself all day. Sighing, she put on her best "I think we should be friends" face and went to do the act. Ron was in the common room, waiting for her with Harry. Harry. She hadn't thought what Sirius, or Harry or anyone else would say, she'd only considered Ron. Running a hand through her hair she went over towards Ron and Harry.

"Ron. I need to talk to you." Ron looked at Harry.

"I'll just be making myself scarce then." Harry hopped up from his chair and went over to Seamus.

"What is it?" Ron looked so concerned, it broke Hermione's heart to do this. But it was unavoidable.

"Ron, I can't be your girlfriend anymore. I don't love you anymore. I'm sorry." Ron started to go purple. Hermione ran up to the girl's dormitories to hide.

At five minutes to midnight, Hermione grabbed her cloak and walked as silently as she could to the grounds. Once she got to the grounds she ran to the tree. Leaning against it and catching her breath, she saw he wasn't there. Tears welled up in her eyes. All that for nothing.

"Not got a very good memory have you?" she turned around to see she'd got the wrong tree. Smiling she threw herself into his arms. He hugged her tightly. She started to cry out of happiness. He wiped her tears away with his finger. Then he lent in and kissed her.

"Draco?"

"What?"
"I love you too."
