A Harmless Prank?

" That big smelling git is looking over at us again," Sirius said angrily.

"Doesn't he have anything better to do than trying to find out what we are up to," James said in disgust.

"Where's Remus?" Peter asked.

" Well, tonight's a full moon and he hasn't been feeling too well. So, Madame Promfey took him over a little early today," James told Peter.

" Well, that explains why he missed dinner. I didn't know where he had gone before dinner because I was still in the Hospital Wing," Peter said.

" You didn't notice he wasn't at dinner?" James asked.

" Er- no I didn't," Peter answered awkwardly.

" Because he was stuffing his face," Sirius said grinning.

" Leave him alone Sirius," James said looking at Peter's embarrassed face.

" Why are we in the library anyway?" Peter asked getting back his courage. " We don't like to study."

" We have decided to get back at Snape for putting you in the Hospital Wing in the first place," Sirius said slyly.

" What are we going to do this time?" Peter asked excitedly.

" Well, here's the plan," James said leaning in closer to whisper.

" Ok now's are chance. Sirius and me will do phase one while Snape is looking for another book," James said.

" Lets go," Sirius said standing up and walking into one of the rows with James following.

Meanwhile Snape was busy looking at books and did not notice Sirius and James in the row behind him. Snape was about to leave when he heard Sirius and James talking in the next row. Deciding he wanted to snoop he stayed perfectly still and listened hard.

" Prongs, remember tonight is the night. You have to meet Wormtail, Moony and me. Remember to get past the Whomping Willow take a long stick and reach in to prod the knot. The tree will automatically freeze and you can climb inside. Remember don't be late," Sirius said hoping Snape was listening.

" Ok! I won't forget 9 o'clock sharp," James said as they both started walking away.

"So, that's where they always go. Tonight I am going to see what they are up to and get them in trouble," Snape said to himself. "Yes, I can see what they are planning."

At ten of nine Snape walked up from the dungeons and quietly walked outside. He walked quickly across the school grounds and down the slope that led to the Whomping Willow.

Up ahead he saw James entering the tree. Once James was out of sight, Snape walked faster toward the tree. He grabbed a long stick he saw on the ground and touched the knot and the tree froze. Snape saw a small hole in the tree and slid down inside of it.

Once he was on his feet again he looked ahead of him. There was a small narrow path. The walls were covered in roots and the ground was dirt and rock. Snape deciding he still wanted to go, started walking down the path.

After a few minutes the path ended and Snape saw a trap door above him. He opened the trap door and climbed out. Snape was surprised to see a very old and rotting looking house.

There were cracks everywhere. The furniture was old and had stuffing hanging out of every inch of it. Another thing that surprised Snape was there were marks all over the walls that looked a lot like claw marks from animals. Snape gulped but stood up. There was no one down here so he decided to head upstairs. He carefully walked up the wobbly stairs trying to make as little noise as possible.

Snape suddenly heard footsteps in the room at the top of the stairs. When Snape had reached the top of the stairs he carefully walked over to the door and opened it. He didn't see anyone but he walked in. The second he had walked in something in the corner caught his attention. He gasped as he fell to the ground. In the corner was what looked like a werewolf. Snape had never seen a werewolf up close but he knew what they looked like.

Snape gasped again as the werewolf starting walking in his direction. The werewolf was showing off its fangs and growling. The werewolf was now about three feet from Snape when all of the sudden something white jumped out and hit the werewolf in its side. The werewolf fell over and the white thing galloped forward and picked up Snape. The white creature threw Snape on its back and galloped out of the room and down the stairs. It galloped down the path and out of the Whomping Willow.

As soon as it was a little ways away from the Whomping Willow it set Snape down. Snape was still lying on the ground but looked up in time to see a silver, white stag disappearing inside the Whomping Willow. Snape just stared thunderstruck but then he realized.

" Prongs!" He muttered under his breath.
