Undiscovered: A Lifetime of Lies (Year One)

Chapter One

It's my first year at Hogwarts and I'm sitting under the Sorting Hat thinking, "Please be something good! Please!"

At this point I had no idea what was good and what was bad. When I was little I was separated from my parents somehow. No one really told me how, it just happened.

"Gryffindor!" the sorting hat suddenly screamed. I heard yells and clapping from the right middle table. I figured that must be the Gryffindor table because it was the only table that was that excited while the other tables just clapped politely. So I headed over there and sat down.

As soon as I sat there I felt at home. People were smiling at me nicely and clapping me on the back. "Welcome to Gryffindor!" said a particularly tall gangly kid with red hair. He was wearing a badge. He must have seen me looking at it because he said, "That's a prefect's badge. I'm a prefect. I patrol the halls at night to make sure no one is sneaking around at night. You look like a fairly sensible girl though, so I don't think I'll have much to worry about from you! I'm Percy by the way."

All I could say was, "Oh." That's right just 'Oh'. Can you tell how nervous I was about being at a school that taught magic?

As I said before I really felt good here. Not like that retched orphanage I came from. Kids used to think I was some sort of jinx because weird stuff used to happen to me all the time. Random things would just fly into the air and start to fly around the room. I used to be able to fall and never get hurt. I would either just bounce back up if I fell or the wounds would heal in like one hour. Of course, at the time I had no idea it was magic but now as I thought back I realize that it was a sign that I was a witch.

I realized that I lost track of time while I was thinking back. Everyone in he hall was very quiet as a very tall, old wizard stood up and started to speak. "Welcome! Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts. Before we begin our marvelous feast I would like to state a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you!"

When he sat everyone started to clap and cheer. I was a bit confused wether or not I should laugh or not. Then I heard a boy say, "Is he-a bit mad?" The boy had black hair, round glasses, and a lightning bolt shape scar on his forehead. I had wanted to ask where he got the scar but I didn't want my first impression to be rude.So I decided not to ask.

I looked to see that he was talking to Percy. "Mad? He's a genius! He's is the best wizard in the whole magical world! But I suppose he is a bit mad, yes. Potatoes Harry?"

At this the boy, Harry, looked down at the table and his mouth fell. I looked down and was shocked to see that the tables were now crowded with food. There was a little bit of everything from roast beef to peppermint humbugs. After a while a bunch of ghosts burst out of the floor. Apparently every house had its own ghost. Gryffindor's happened to be a ghost known to the students as Nearly Headless Nick. I quickly learned that he preferred to be called Sir Nicholas De Mimsy-Porpington. I know this because I happened to make the mistake of asking him how you could be nearly headless. He got all in a huff and said, "Like this!" and he grabbed hold of the curly gray hair atop his head and pulled.

Everyone gasped. When Sir Nicholas pulled on his hair his head flipped off. Only it did not fall off, it was as if it was on a hinge. Hanging by just a little piece of skin on the side of his head. Sir Nicholas was indeed nearly headless.

After this little incident Nick just sat quietly and watched us eat with a bit of a longing look on his face. Apparently when you're dead you can't eat. But, while Nick sat there in silence the rest of the students moved to their families. Some kids had both of their parents be from the magical world while others had one parent be a Muggle, non magical folk, and the other of the magical world.

After a while most of the first years had told of their family's origin except me. A kid with sandy hair I had gathered was named Seamus noticed me and my lack of joining the conversation. "So...um...you what is your family's blood stream?" ,he asked.

I hate this question.

Okay! Okay! I know! It's a bit boring! I proise it will get better!! But you got to admit that it's a good cliffhanger, isn't it?
