Veela Spray

Chapter 1

Narrator: Harry Potter and Ron Weasley were sitting in Gryffindor common room, working on their potions homework.

Harry: 'What is the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?' Why does this question seem so familiar to me? Have I been asked this before? Well....if I have, I don't remember the answer. (He thought.)

Harry taps Ron on the shoulder.

Ron: What?

Harry: Do you know the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?

Ron: How do you expect me to know the answer?

Harry: If I didn't expect you to know, I wouldn't have asked you.

Ron: Good point. I'll ask Hermione. She ought to know.

Ron walks to one of the armchairs in front of the fireplace where Hermione is reading a thick book.

Ron: What's the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?

Hermione rolls her eyes.

Hermione: Really, Ron. You have got to stop coming to me for answers. It's in one of your text books, I'm sure. I'm not telling you this time.

She continues reading.

Ron: Oh, come on, Hermione. Just tell me. You know you want to.

Hermione: No.

Ron: Come off it. You and I both know it's tarring you up inside.

Hermione gets annoyed.

Hermione: Stop it, Ron.

Ron: Just tell me the answer.

Hermione: No!

Ron: I promise this will be the last time you will have to tell me the answer. Please!

Hermione gets up from her chair.

Hermione: NO, RON! I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU THAT THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!

She gasps and claps her hand to her mouth at what she says. No, wait....I mean....Ron-

Ron: Thanks!

Ron walks away.

Hermione sighs in frustration and collapses back into the chair.

Ron sits back at the table next to Harry, laughing.

Ron: Did you hear that? There is no difference.

Harry: Yeah, I think the whole common room heard her. Right after she said it, just about everyone started scribbling the answer down.

Narrator: Harry and Ron started laughing again. Then Ron looked over at Hermione and saw that she didn't see it as funny. She had an angry look on her face. Ron started to look worried.

Ron: Harry, do you think she's mad at me?

Harry looks over at Hermione.

Harry: Yes, but it's not the first time, right?

Ron: Yeah.

Ron looks upset.

Harry: What?

Ron: What do you mean "What?"

Harry: There's a problem, isn't there?

Ron: What are you talking about?

Harry: You care that Hermione is mad at you?

Ron: I didn't say that.

Harry: I know. Answer the question.

Ron puts on a fake smile.

Ron: No. No way. Me, care? Please...

Harry: (smirking) Ron, you don't lie very well.

Ron: (shrugging) I try.

Harry: Why does it bother you all of a sudden? I always thought you were tactless, stubborn, and would never so much as think about how Hermione felt toward you. No offence.

Ron: None taken.

Harry: So, why does it bother you?

Ron puts on a straight face.

Ron: I don't want to tell you.

Harry: Why?

Ron: Well, because it's...it's...it's kind of hard to explain.

Harry: No it isn't. You like Hermione.

Ron: Shhhh....not so loud.

Harry: Oh, it's true! I was just guessing. (smiling)

Ron: You were?

Harry: Well... I sort of already knew. Heck, everybody already knew. Well, except Hermione. So I guess you want to apologize now, right?

Ron: No.

Harry: Why?

Ron: Because I almost never apologize to her. If I start now, she will think that I like her.

Harry: And...that would be a...bad thing?

Ron: Yes. (sounding frustrated) Think of how awkward it would be. She doesn't even like me that way anyway.

Narrator: They stopped talking. Harry took the time to think about this when a thought crossed his mind.

Harry: Listen, why don't you ask her to the dance that is coming up?

Ron: Are you mad? Bloody Hell, Harry. Have you heard anything I just said?

Harry: Sure...I just don't understand what's so bad about asking her. You will never know if she likes you or not if you don't ask.

Ron: I'm just...afraid of what she will say.

Harry: That's really thick, Ron.

Ron: You just don't understand.

Harry: Got that right.

They freeze and the lights fade out slowly.

Narrator: To be continued...
