Ginny Weasley's First Report

Name: Virginia M. Weasley
House: Gryffindor
Year: 1

Charms: A+
One of the better pupils in her year; her ability is more than satisfactory. I was most upset when it was believed she was dead.
F. Flitwick

Transfiguration: A
Satisfactory. See Head of House's comments below.
M. McGonagall

Potions: A+
Miss Weasley's skill at the brewing of Potions is amongst the highest in her class, and her personal attitude to other pupils' safety is surprising in a Gryffindor, and would be welcome in my own house, Slytherin.
S. Snape

Herbology: A-
Miss Weasley has been a good pupil, particularly interested in the progress of the Mandrakes and the restorative potions made from them.
P. Sprout

DADA: E
V. poor. Lags far behind the rest of the class. Spent much of year in contact with a magical re-creation of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Released a Basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets and attacked four other students with it, including a Prefect. The best defence is not always offence. Must do better. Her obvious knowledge of Dark Arts kept her from an F.
F. Grubbly-Plank (for the indisposed G. Lockhart)

History of Magic: A
Miss Walsh's general attitude to the subject is quite satisfactory, though her obsession with the unfounded legend of Salazar Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets and its monster borders on the obsessive, and is disturbing in one so young.
V. Binns

Astronomy: A-
A stellar performance both in class and in homework.
S. Sinistra

Flying: B
Ginny's flying is generally good, and I fully expect her to follow her brothers into the House Quidditch team in the course of time, providing she doesn't get expelled first.
R. Hooch

General behaviour/study habits: C

Head of House's comments:
Virginia has shown very good results in her first year, with the sole exception of Defence Against the Dark Arts. She appears to have completely misunderstood the point of "Defence" and has instead been employing the Dark Arts throughout the year. Quite apart from her own near-death as a result of these activities, she also endangered the lives of four other pupils, one of them a Prefect, and two of whom were also Gryffindors, not to mention our House ghost. This indicates a lack of the expected House spirit. I find it difficult indeed to believe that this is the younger sister of Bill Weasley, who became Head Boy, Charlie Weasley, whose legendary performance at Quidditch displayed one of the highest levels of House spirit it has been my pleasure to see during my years at this school, and Percy Weasley, who shows such promise. Indeed, even her brothers Fred and George have never attracted quite so much criticism from me in a report.
M.McGonagall

Headmaster's comments:
Ginny's academic progress is praiseworthy, but I hope to see a great improvement in her behaviour in future years.
A. Dumbledore

Parents are welcome to add their comments below:
We are aware that Ginny had a lot of problems in her first year, but we feel we must remind the school that this was a result of one of the school governors tricking her into using an enchanted object that caused her to be possessed by the spirit of You-Know-Who's younger self. This being so, it is disingenuous to ignore the school's role in her problems. We must also express our concern that not a single teacher, not even the so-famous Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, recognised the effects of a possession!
