Colin Creevey's First Report

Name: Colin L. Creevey
House: Gryffindor
Year: 1

Charms: C
Colin showed initial promise, but his subsequent absence from all classes has meant he has fallen far behind his classmates. I have given him extra homework for the school holidays, in the hope that he will complete it and not need to be held back a year. His mark is based on the time before November.
F. Flitwick

Transfiguration: C
See my comments as Head of Gryffindor house.
M. McGonagall

Potions: D
Creevey's attendance and attitude are deplorable, despite a good start over the first two months. I have provided him with twenty potion bottles, and some bags of ingredients, and expect him to return after the summer holidays with the potion bottles filled with the correctly-made potions, at which point his mark will be reconsidered.
S. Snape

Herbology: C
Mr Creevey showed great promise during the initial weeks for which he attended classes, and it clearly is no fault of his that he was attacked.
P. Sprout

DADA: F
Failed to attend class from the first week of November.
F. Grubbly-Plank (for the indisposed G. Lockhart)

History of Magic: C
Mr Davey's attitude and attendance have been exemplary, although he has failed to hand in any homework since mid-November.
V. Binns

Astronomy: C-
Initial good start eclipsed by events.
S. Sinistra

Flying: -
Colin started well, but has obviously fallen behind due to being attacked. He will need to join my first-year class next year. In the circumstances, it would be unfair to assign him any mark.
R. Hooch

General behaviour/study habits: -

Head of House's comments:
Colin has been given a considerable amount of work which he will be expected to complete before the start of the next school year, in order to keep up with his classmates. To this end, he has been given special dispensation to use magic outside the school over this summer holiday.
I have given no mark for general behaviour and study habits, as Colin had so little time this year to develop them.
M.McGonagall

Headmaster's comments:
There seems to be a considerable and regrettable lack of understanding on the part of some of Colin's teachers. He has inevitably fallen behind in his work, due to his being Petrified from early November to the end of May, through no fault of his own. I am sure that he will complete the extra work to his teachers' full satisfaction.
A. Dumbledore

Parents are welcome to add their comments below:
I don't understand any of this. My son was attacked by a monster, on school premises, and half the teachers seem to be blaming him for it! There seem to be a lot of teachers who've signed this report, and nobody who can either notice a monster wandering around the school, or protect the pupils, or even cure him afterwards in less than seven months!
If a magic school means monsters on the loose, attacking pupils and teachers who don't know the meaning of responsibility, I don't think Colin will be returning to it next year -- there's a perfectly good, normal secondary school near here.
A. Creevey

Copy of Headmaster's letter in reply to parent's comments:
Dear Mr Creevey,
Your points are well made. I have spoken to the teachers concerned, and expect them to be more understanding in future.
The school had no medicine on-hand that could cure your son, nor could it be obtained elsewhere, as the monster was of a very rare type. The unfortunate delay was therefore caused by the need to recreate the medicine needed.
As your son may have told you, the monster's presence was due to a malicious plot similar to one enacted fifty years ago. The plotter has been dealt with, and there should be no recurrence of these or similar events.
Allow me to offer my personal assurances that your son, and other pupils, will be far safer next year, should you choose to permit him to return here.
A. Dumbledore
