Chapter 2- FAQ

Hermione's new obsession frightened Harry. He was now searching the halls for the Head Girl, but she was nowhere to be found. Of course, the first place he had tried was the library, but Madame Pince had told him that she had not been in there. That worried him even more.

Ron had decided to get a head start on their Divination homework--of which the made up predictions had become great fun for him--so now Harry was aimlessly wondering the Hogwarts halls alone...lost in thought.

He began to think of the last time he had faced his nemesis, Lord Voldemort. The Dark Lord had almost won that time. Harry was beaten so that he had collapsed from exhaustion. He clearly remembered the triumphant look on his snake-like face. That was, of course, until Dumbledore and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix arrived to save Harry. He had to spend nearly three weeks in the hospital wing after that fight.

"How am I ever going to beat him?" Harry wondered aloud.

Quite suddenly, as if from some invisible band, a song Harry recognized as a popular Muggle song started to play in the distance. At first he brushed it off as being just someone playing their music a bit too loudly...until he unexpectedly began to belt the lyrics as he began his trek up a long, dark corridor.

"I will dedicate, and sacrifice my everything for just a second's worth of my story's ending. And I wish I could know if the directions that I take and all the choices that I make won't end up all for nothing,"

Harry rounded a corner. A couple of the portraits eyed him curiously. He began to sing what he supposed was the chorus of the song to the painted onlookers.

"Show me what it's for. Make me understand it. I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer. Is there something more than what I've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer,"

Harry fell back and rested on the wall behind him.

"Help me carry on," he sang as he stared up the pitch black hallway. "Assure me it's okay to use my heart and not my eyes to navigate the darkness."

He began to walk steadily up the hall, increasing in speed as he went.

"Will the ending be ever coming suddenly? Will I ever get to see the ending to my story?"

He was now at a steady run as he, once again, began to plea to the portraits.

"Show me what it's for. Make me understand it. I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer. Is there something more than what I've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer."

He stopped and yelled up the hall, "So when and how will I know?"

He walked a little bit further up the hall, only more wearily than what he had started out. "How much further do I have to go? How much longer until I finally know? Because I'm looking and I just can't see what's in front of me...in front of me!"

He quieted his voice a bit and did the chorus for a final time. "Show me what it's for. Make me understand it. I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer. Is there something more than what I've been handed? I've been crawling in the dark, looking for the answer."

There were a few pick up beats and finally the song ended. The candles floating in the hall lit once more.

"What the--?" Harry wondered aloud. "Well, that's the first time I've ever broke into song...or at least, it's the first time with background music!"

Harry's musings were interrupted when Ron was seen running down the hall towards him. When the red-head stopped in front of him, he seemed a bit out of breath.

"Ron, did you by any chance...break into song?" Harry asked. Ron--to Harry's relief--nodded.

"Yeah...odd thing. It was the new number one hit by the Bloody Wands. Why, did you?"

Harry nodded.

"What the hell is going on?"

"I don't know. Maybe we should go see the Headmaster about it,"

"Good idea,"

Without another word about each other's songs, the two made their way to Dumbledore's office.
