- Author's Note:
- I had to write this over in order for understanding. I don't like unhappy people. Not much has changed plot wise. I just removed some of the uneeded bits. Seeing as we have all pretty much guessed that Ginny is Dimitri's mother, there was no need for me to keep it a secret.
Chapter Three
Disrupting Time
Finding Out
~*~~*~~*~
"Where is your brother?"
That woke him up. He suddenly remembered where he was. He sat up and looked at Draco in the eye. From that Draco knew this was bad news and he knew what was going to come out of his mouth.
It wasn't -
"-my fault, he just made a very convincing argument."
Draco sighed. He was in no mood to put up with his excuses. He had enough of that from the boy's mother. "Where did he go?"
"I don't know. Lesley would know though."
Draco frowned. "What?"
Sebastian thought for a minute. "I think she's still downstairs, she's supposed to be talking him out of it."
Then Draco became very wary. "Out... of what?" he said sternly.
"Erm..."
Draco rolled his eyes. "Oh never mind." He turned and ran down the corridor to sprint down the stairs. His son was not there. He looked around the living room. Lesley was on the ground, it seemed she was under the binding charm. He conjured his wand and reversed the spell. She relaxed on the floor as he went toward her to help her up. As he moved forward he noticed a piece of parchment on the table. He picked it up and began to read.
Dear Father,
I've gone back. Please don't be angry with me or with Lesley, she had nothing to do with this (There is a silencing charm on her; you may want to take it off). But you have to know why I've done this. I love her too much to leave her waiting for someone to avenge her death and I cannot stand the idea of not having a mother around any longer. I'm not like you. I can't put my feelings on hold and pretend that she doesn't exist any more.
The thought of her murdered because of this woman has scarred me deeply. Until I find her, the one who condemned her, there's an eternal unrest in my soul knowing that I have lost someone so close to me because of someone else's selfishness.
I am aware of the dangers, that I am jeopardizing the future but surely any other future must be better than the one we live in? I have to change it, I know it sounds selfish and it is but sometimes when you want something so much not even time can stop you. I'm sorry - truly I am but I do not regret this decision.
You are the one who told me to follow my heart as you had to once.
So you have to understand.
I love you,
Dimitri
P. S: Get ready, I'm bringing her home.
He shook his head. "Back? Back to where, the castle?"
Lesley shook her head and looked down at the wooden box on the table. Draco followed her gaze.
"No. Oh gods no." He picked it up quickly and opened it. The time turner was gone. He shut his eyes. "Please tell me that he did not go back in time." She just nodded. "How could you just let him leave?" She wasn't answering. He then remembered a certain part of the letter.
(There's a silencing charm on her, you may want to take it off.)
He took out his wand and pointed it at her. "Finite Incantatum."
She moved her jaw around to get the feeling back. "I'm sorry, but he wouldn't listen to me."
He sat down helpless on the sofa and ran his free hand through his hair. "How did he even find this anyway?" He held the box in front of her.
She sat down next to him on the sofa. "With the pictures in the attic."
Draco frowned. "What pictures?"
She leaned over to the side of the sofa and took up a box full of old pictures and memorabilia. She picked up one picture on the surface of the box and handed it to him.
Draco sighed at the sight of Dimitri's mother; it was the only picture he had left of her, since he had burned the others. He had chosen to keep this one because it was a muggle picture so it didn't move and her face was hidden by her hair, he couldn't see her. Maybe that was the reason he chose to keep it, he couldn't remember. The wine red of it sparkled in the sun though. He smiled as he remembered all the pestering she had done to get him to change it back from the blue he had made it. He had been so angry at her then for leaving him alone to raise a two year old boy. Of course that boy had grown up now and didn't remember her, so only had the stories his father told him.
Or the lies, whichever one fit best.
"He should have come to me," he said softly. He got up, placing the box back on the table and began to pace with the letter in his hand.
She sighed. "And what would you have told him?" Lesley asked.
Draco scoffed. "I would have said no," he said in an obvious way.
"Exactly, he knows you too well," she said sitting back.
"But still -."
"No but stills. Do you know why he's gone back?"
"Yes, and I still don't care. I just want him here." He glanced at the letter again. "He thinks I've forgotten her." He continued to read it through again. When he came to a certain line he stopped pacing and read it over. "Hmm," he smiled.
"What?" Lesley asked curiously. Dimitri had written the letter when she was lying on the ground. He had apologized numerous times while he wrote it before disappearing.
"Sometimes you want something so badly, not even time can stop you."
"Mmm, that's nice. I suppose time is literal now."
"No it's perfect; she always said he'd turn into me eventually." He paused and frowned. " Until I find her, the one who condemned her..." he said to himself. Then something dawned on him, something Draco was beginning to regret. "You have to go back for him." He opened the box and took out the cushion that once held a gold time-turner. As he lifted it, Lesley could see the second time-turner, like most time-turners it had the little sand timer, made of the usual gold unlike the one Draco owned, which was made out of onyx instead.
"Me?" She didn't have to hide her shock, she was not expecting that.
"Yes if I go it's too dangerous. Plus he didn't listen to me here, why should he listen to me there? He likes you better right now." He handed her the time turner.
"I don't see why I should go; wouldn't it be just as dangerous?"
"No."
"And how do you reckon that?" she said incredulously.
"If I go, then there a great chance that I would try the exact same thing that Dimitri is trying. The world doesn't need two selfish people out there, one of us is enough. Please. He is doing it for the right reasons, I know, but it's still wrong."
Lesley just didn't understand his apprehension. "He just wants to see his mother again," she said softly.
"No, he doesn't, he wants to get revenge for her death. If he does then... Lesley, he may not exist here. I lost his mother when I needed her, I don't want to lose him too." She was silent. He looked pleading. "Lesley, please." He held it out to her.
"Why does he want to get revenge for her death?"
He recalled when Dimitri had found this picture and how he had yelled at him for not telling him the truth. He bent down to pick up the picture. "When he came to me with this picture, he was so angry at me for telling him that she died in childbirth. He said that I made him believe for so many years that he killed her. He wanted the truth. I gave him my truth. The truth that I wanted to believe because of my anger. That a woman who once existed killed her. I told him Maleyna killed her." He noted her disbelieving look. "I told him because I thought it would make him give up. I totally forgot that he's his mother's son. Now he's got a vendetta against her and wants to make it right."
She looked down at the time-turner in her hand. "Why is that so bad?" she said looking up at him.
"He has gone back to before she was killed. When, as I made him believe, they both existed so that he could kill Maleyna or..." he trailed.
P. S: Get ready, I'm bringing her home.
"Or what?"
He looked at her. "Or both get Maleyna and bring her here to help."
"So? I'd think that even you wouldn't mind that, if Maleyna is here to help then his mother would return wouldn't she? If she knows how to work the stone then maybe we can beat Rayon." He edged closer to him. "Don't you want her back?"
"Of course I do, but he can't bring her here because he thinks Maleyna killed her. She didn't even exist in that time. If he goes back and sees Ginny as she was then he'll think she's her. If he brings Ginny, who he'll think is Maleyna, here to go against Rayon, she may end up dead. If she dies, he won't exist." He looked at her hard. "At all. You were there, Lesley. When we were in the room and my uncle tried to use the stone. You've seen the books, you saw her. They might as well be the same person - they look so alike. Why do you think Maleyna can't die?" He waited for her expression. "Exactly. Maleyna is Ginny and Ginny is his mother, Lesley. If she's gone, so is he."
Author notes: Right so now, move on to chapter four.
