The Face in the Mirror
Chapter 2
"Coffee, anyone," inquired Sirius from the kitchen.
"Yes, please," said Hermione from the living room. Harry simply shook his head no. Since returning from the cemetery, Harry hadn't said anything. However, physically, he looked as shocked as Sirius had predicted. Even though his voice wasn't giving him away, his shaking hands and pale face were just as revealing. Hermione could still speak. However, as comforting as she may seem to Harry, her eyes were a million miles away. Sirius looked at the two of them, sitting side by side on the couch, slowly taking in the information.
"Sirius, that coffee smells wonderful. Is it done" questioned Hermione, bringing Sirius back to his kitchen.
"Yep. Hang on." Sirius responded, as he poured two mugs of coffee, put them on a tray, and carried it out to the living room. He put the tray on the coffee table, handed a mug to Hermione, and took one for himself. Making himself comfortable on his leather recliner, he fixed his godson with an unblinking stare, and asked, "So, what do you want to know?'
"First question," said Harry. "Why was I separated from her?"
"On the night your parents died, Alexis was already in her crib. We first found you and your parents that night, and we gave you to your aunt and uncle right away. A couple of days later, we found Alexis, alive and well. We were going to give her to your aunt and uncle as well, but we had already received an angry letter from them, stating very clearly that they weren't going to take her as well."
"So, what happened to her," whispered Hermione. "Did she die?"
"No," responded Sirius. "None of our friends were able to keep her, except for an orphanage director in New York City, who was a penpal to your mother, Harry. So, she went over there. The director wrote to us often, so we knew she was fine.
"If she was my twin, wouldn't we have met her at Hogwarts," questioned Harry.
"Just because you guys are twins doesn't mean you were identical." Harry nodded. "Since you two were franteral (a.n. is that how you spell it?), Alexis inherited the recessive genes for magical ability from both Lily and James." Harry's forehead wrinkled as he struggled to process this new information, so Hermione stepped in. "Basically, Harry, she can't be a witch unless because she inherited different genes."
"Oh, I get it now," said Harry.
"Harry looked a lot more relaxed, but there was obviously some other things on his mind.
"So, any other questions/" asked Sirius, smiling.
"Yeah," said Harry, returning the smile. "What's she doing now?"
"Oh...um...well, I haven't heard about her in a while. When she turned 18, she left the orphanage."
"Well, can you find out," asked Harry and Hermione in unison. Sirius laughed.
"Of course, the director and I are still good friends," Sirius replied, reaching for his phone and address book. "I'll call her right now.
"Hello. Um... Lynn, it's Sirius."
"Oh, Sirius! How are ya?" Sirius nodded at Harry and Hermione, and they exchanged high fives.
"So, what can I do for you, Sirius," asked Lynn cheerfully.
"Do you remember Alexis Potter?" asked Sirius. Not allowing her time to say anything, he continued. "I just told her twin, Harry, and he really wants to meet her."
Lynn's end of the phone was silent. "Uh, Lynn," said Sirius nervously into the phone.
"Wait, thinking, thinking... Oh yeah, Lily's daughter. Can't forget a girl like that let me tell you..." Lynn trailed off for a moment, but then her bouncy tone was back. "So what do you want to know about her?"
Harry took the phone. "Well, what's doing, where she lives... Well, I guess everything actually."
Lynn began talking again, sounding very proud. "Well, she graduated from high school with honors, and she went to the University of Michigan to earn her degree in radio broadcast. She works for a Detroit radio station and lives in West Bloomfield, Michigan."
"Is she married?"
"Nope."
"Does she have any idea that she has a brother?"
"No, of course not. It just wasn't safe to tell her when you-know-who was still at large."
Harry nodded, and handed the phone back to Sirius. "Well, Harry is definitely interested in meeting her, so I was wondering if you could give us her address and stuff."
"Sure, I wouldn't mind at all. It's time that she meets her brother."
In just a few hours, planes tickets where gotten, the baby had a sitter, and Harry, Hermione, and Sirius were off to meet the woman they should have met many years ago.
