Chapter Six

Hunter

I want to take his eyes out

Just for looking at you

Yes I do

I want to take his hands off

Just for touching you

Yes I do

And I want to rip his heart out

Just for hurting you

And I want to break his mind down

Yes I do

And I want to make him

Regret life since the day he met you

Yes I do

And I want to make him

Take back all that he took from you

Yes I do

-Nickelback, Just Four

Harry took his horse back to the stable. He was angry. The horse had ruined his great plan - to tell Hermione that he had left Cho and that he felt something more than just friendship towards her. He had come to the conclusion last night that he wanted Hermione to be his girlfriend. Harry was sure that Hermione would agree and then he wouldn't have to worry about her crush on Malfoy any more.

He helped the old man to take care of the horse and then went on foot to the lake he had seen when he came back. It was raining heavily now, but instead of going inside, Harry sat on a stone on the bank of the lake. Yuk, he thought, I hate this weather! When I leave Hogwarts, it is only South France or Africa for me. I hate this stupid climate and the stupid, dirty families that live here."

He got up and walked along the bank. There was a path that led into the forest. Harry heard a hunters' horn, so he hurried to see the hunters. After some while he walked out in a meadow, where hunters had gathered. Harry winced. He saw Draco Malfoy, looking pale and bored, sitting on the huge Friesian and looking around. Harry was about to leave, unnoticed, when he saw Hermione fly on her horse through the meadow. It looked like she had lost control over her horse. No one moved, except Malfoy, who lashed his horse and flew after her. Harry shrieked.

"No!"

Everyone turned around and looked at Harry. He looked back at them frantically and then rushed after both horses.

***

Both horses flew through the trees silently. It looked like the good white was trying to get away from the bad black, who was following it, but actually the black one was trying to save the white. There was a tree fallen across the path, but none of them saw it. Hermione was trying to calm her horse; as it jumped over the three, she lost her grip on its mane and slid out of the saddle. She threw her arms around the horse's neck before she fell off and tried to hold on. But then the horse jerked aside and with a loud "AAAAH!" Hermione fell to the ground, rolled over a few times and then lay motionless. When Draco reached her, he jumped off the horse and ran to her. She had fainted, and Draco saw that she was hurt. Her arm was bent at an abnormal angle, and there was blood leaking through her robes. Draco turned Hermione on her back and lightly touched her chest. For a moment he looked unsure whether to do something or not. Then he took hold of the front of her robes and tore them open. Hermione had fallen on a sharp branch that had cut her stomach deeply just under the heart. Draco's eyes widened. Then he rushed to his horse and pulled a dark bottle out of his saddlebag. He returned to Hermione and tried to wake her up. It was impossible, so Draco pulled out his wand and said "Ferula!" A splint appeared on Hermione's arm. Then he tried to wake her up again.

"Ennervate!" he cried. Hermione contracted and puffed. She tried to open her eyes and when she did, she saw Draco, who had leaned over her. His silver eyes were focused on something in her chest, which hurt like hell. She tried to breathe, but the pain struck her like lightning.

"Malfoy..." she whispered.

Draco looked in her face and said in a little trembling voice, "Hermione, I want you to look at me. Don't you dare close your eyes or look somewhere else. If you lose your consciousness, I won't be able to save you. There is a branch under your...beautiful bra...and now I'm going to pull it out. Clench your teeth or do anything you want - just don't faint again, understood?" He put one hand on her cheek and took the branch in his other.

"Ready?"

Hermione wanted to tell Draco not to do it, wanted to tell him to bring her to Madam Pomfrey, wanted to...

"AAARRRR!" she cried and closed her eyes, not wanting to look at the branch. Draco had pulled it out without waiting for her reply. "The pain! I can't bear it! Oh my God..." she thought, but then it just vanished. Instead of pain there was a very unpleasant feeling like being bitten. She opened her eyes and saw purple smoke rising from her chest. Draco helped her sit up and handed her the dark bottle.

"Drink it," he said.

Hermione obeyed him without thinking. She had seen this potion at work before. It was a strong Healing potion, which could be used on deep cuts and stuff like that.

***

Draco sat on a tree trunk beside Hermione, raised his face to the sky, and let the rain pour down his face. He liked the cold rain brushing down his cheeks. He was a little breathless. Hermione was grasping the bottle tightly; Draco held out his hand and took it from her. Then he lifted it to his own lips and slowly drank what was left. Hermione turned her head to look at him.

"Draco..."

"What?"

"I just...are you really mad at Harry?"

"About what? That he exists?"

"No...well that he...rushed in...well, when we were...you know..."

"When we were what? Raping each other? Or just...kissing?"

Hermione didn't know what to say now. She had thought that Draco had some feelings for her when he had kissed her.

"I think that this time Potter was right, Granger. You are his friend and you shouldn't have hurt him."

"Draco, I can choose my friends for myself."

Draco turned his wet and dripping face to Hermione and looked in her eyes. He gazed quite a long time and finally said:

"What do you really want from me? To be your friend? To kiss you and caress you whenever you would like it? Or to kick Potter every time you ask me to? Have you ever thought about other people's feelings? What about me? I'm not even sure that I like you..."

"Then why did you kiss me?"

"Because at that moment I wanted to! But I'm not sure that I want it now!" Draco spat. "What is it with you, people? I have just saved your skin and already you are asking me to date you?" He got up on his feet and walked a ways away. Hermione followed him, holding a hand over the place she was injured before.

"What is it with you? The way I remember you in the Malfoy house...what is going on with you? Answer me!"

"People change, Granger."

"Not in a few weeks time, do they?"

She put her hands on Draco's shoulders and turned him around gently. She examined his face and hugged him.

"Thanks for the Healing potion, Draco," she said. Draco opened his arms and hugged her too. He still hadn't said a word. Hermione put one hand behind Draco's head and pulled him closer. Then she kissed him on the lips. Draco shrank when their lips touched, but then he answered her. Hermione tore her lips away from his and looked in his silver eyes again. She smiled and saw something devilish appear in Draco's eyes. It was Draco this time who closed their lips together. He slid his arms down Hermione's back and fingered the place where the wound had been. The skin was smooth and Draco leaned and kissed her softly there. It was so different for Hermione! She had been kissed by boys, but this feeling was...super! She felt shivers running all over her body and she wanted Draco to do that again. But Draco was now standing straight and looking at a certain point in the forest, with a quite amused expression on his face. There was a smile playing in the corners of his mouth.

"Yeah, next time I want to see Scarhead as soon as possible, I'll kiss you!"

Hermione turned around and saw Harry running through the trees towards them. When he reached them, he grabbed Draco and pushed him into the mud.

"Leave. Her. Alone!" he cried.

***

A car stopped in front of Ginny and Ron. They were about to continue walking when a Muggle policeman stepped out of the car and stood in their way.

"So, kids, walking on the highway?"

Ginny raised her eyes and said:

"Our mother taught us not to talk to strangers."

"Didn't she teach you not to walk on highway? You are coming with me to the police station."

***

Hermione's eyes flew wide open. Draco was lying in the mud, laughing uncontrollably. Harry was breathless and stunned. He stared at Draco, who was now trying to get to his feet.

"You know, Potter, your facial expression was so great! I'll never forget it!" Draco had got up now and was walking slowly towards Harry.

"But you know, the fact that you made me laugh doesn't mean I liked being pushed in the mud too." He was not laughing anymore and his face had become tense.

***

"Names?"

"Virginia Catherine Weasley."

"Ronald Weasley."

"Brother and sister, I see?"

"Yes."

"What is your address?"

"The Burrow, Ottery St. Catchpole."

"What?!"

"Just as you heard."

"There is not such place in the whole world! Are you sure you haven't run away from some kind of a hospital?"

"Excuse us, sir, but we didn't run away..."

"We were kidnapped."

"Yeah, right! Tell that to someone else! I shall check on you anyway."

***

Harry and Draco were staring at each other. Hermione stood aside for a while, but finally she could stand it no longer and ran in between them.

"No! No fighting!" she shrieked as both boys were about to throw themselves onto each other.

"Why?" Draco asked.

"Step aside, Hermione. I don't want to hurt you." Harry said.

"Harry..."

"Come on, Hermione. I'm not going to let you stay here with that...maniacal Malfoy any longer." He took her arm and turned to go away. Hermione looked back in Draco's face. It was...sad? Hermione looked closer, but now she saw only pure hatred. Draco glanced at her and she saw that Draco felt hurt. He was trying to cover that expression by glaring at Hermione. Then he turned around and walked away.

***

They were walking through the forest. Harry was holding Hermione's hand tightly, and Hermione didn't even try to pull it out of his grip. After a while Harry stopped and turned to Hermione. He looked at her. Hermione wondered what he was thinking about her open, bloody and filthy robes. The skin was dirty, the only clean place was where the wound had been. With her free hand she closed her robes as much as she could, because Draco had torn the cloth. Harry sighed and pulled off his sweater.

"Put this on, Hermione," he said and pulled it over her head. When she was dressed, he kept looking in her eyes.

"What is it, Harry?" she asked, feeling uncomfortable.

"Hermione, I would like you to explain yourself."

"What? What do I have to explain to you?" she exploded.

"Shush, don't shout! He may be still creeping around."

"So what?"

Harry looked at her uncertainly and then grabbed her by her upper arms and pulled closer. He leaned and kissed her on the lips. Hermione's eyes widened. She tried to tear away from Harry, but it was impossible. That kiss! Was that a kiss?! It was just like...kissing a cold frog! It was wet and rough and...Hermione tried to hit Harry, but couldn't free her hands.

***

BANG! Can I please please please pleeeeease keep them capital? Harry was lying flat on the ground. Hermione stared at him with her mouth open. Draco had hit him the moment Harry had started to slid his hands onto Hermione. Now he rushed to Harry and pulled him into a standing position.

"Hello, Potter! Long time no see, huh?" He smiled and punched him with his knee in the stomach.

"Having fun, right?" he commented when Harry crashed to the ground.

"Don't like mud too? I can help that! I always enjoy helping heroes. Then they mention me in the newspapers too!" He lifted Harry up again and looked in his face carefully.

"Look at yourself! So pale! Why haven't you put any make-up on your face today? You know, there are such things as water-resistant cosmetics . But I can put marks on your face that will last longer than even those. Want some?" he asked Harry, shoving his fist under the other boy's nose.

Harry wanted to die. Now he understood the saying that love was pain. He tried to raise his head and when he finally managed to, he saw a broadly smirking Draco in front of him.

"Well...I'm waiting for your answer!"

"Fuck you, Malfoy!"

"Now, THAT'S the same. Can I keep the caps? I'll do anything! Even try to remember to bold the title of the chapter!!! the spirit!" Draco said, hitting Harry in the face. Malfoy let Harry fall to the ground and turned to Hermione. She was stunned. For the first time in her life she had seen a real boy fight, and she was sure she didn't want to see anything like that again.

"Malfoy...what have you done?!" she gasped, and ran to Harry. She touched his carotid and felt better when she felt it pulsing.

"I won't help you get him anywhere."

Hermione sat on the ground. What was going on here?

***

"Hey," Draco said sitting besides Hermione. Hermione didn't answer. She was trying not to start crying. She didn't manage it, and she started to sob. Draco looked at her, glanced at Harry and then hugged her.

"Why...Harry...he's my friend, but this...this was..."

"Don't you think about this now. Think about something else."

"What? I...I can't, he was so..."

"Think about night. About the cool air you drag into your lungs. It calms you, you raise your head and see beautiful stars shining just for you. There is no one near you - you are alone. Alone in the night. You walk along a lake and then you see it. A falling star. It falls in the lake and waves start to crash on the banks. You feel the need to jump into the lake after that small miracle. No one holds you, so you dive in. You want to reach the star. You dive deeper and deeper, it is dark there. But you see something glowing in the sands. You reach for it and..." Draco's voice was soft and Hermione calmed down bit by bit. Now she was not thinking about Harry any more. She had forgot about his existence, but a puff from her back reminded her that. She shrank back and looked at him. He was trying to roll onto his back. Hermione went to him and helped him. When she looked back to Draco, she was surprised to see no one there. Draco had left very quietly and Hermione hadn't noticed how quickly he had done it. She turned back to Harry and didn't see the shadow disappearing into the trees.

***

"So, what's your telephone number?"

Ginny and Ron exchanged glances. Finally Ron spoke:

"We don't have a telephone."

"And this is the twenty-first century! Okay, what is your postal code?"

"Do we have a postal code?" Ron asked Ginny.

"I don't know it, anyway," she replied.

"Well, how can I tell your parents that they have to come here and get you?"

"We don't know..." Ginny started but Ron threw himself in the conversation.

"We can owl them!"

"Or Floo!" Now Ginny brightened, too.

"What kind of lies are you telling me now? What is Floo, what owls? You haven't been torturing birds, have you?" the policeman asked suspiciously.

"Good heavens, no!" Ginny exclaimed.

***

"That son of a bitch!" Harry uttered.

"If there is a son of a bitch here, it is you." Hermione said in a cold voice.

"What?" Harry tried to get in a sitting position. Hermione sat on a tree stump and put her hands in lap.

"Just what you heard."

"What is it with you?"

"What is it with you?" Hermione shrieked.

"What do you mean?"

"Man, just look at his face! And who was the one trying to rape me? I'll give you a hint - it was not Draco!"

Harry scratched the back of his neck and looked at Hermione with stab of guilt in his eyes.

"You didn't like it, did you?"

Hermione smirked.

"Does it really look as though I liked it?"

Harry sighed.

"I'm sorry, Hermione...I just thought that you would like if I did the same to you as Malfoy...I love you, and I would like you to be my girlfriend..."

"And Cho? Will you start cheating on her?"

"I broke up with Cho months ago. I didn't tell you that."

Hermione sat quietly on a tree trunk. She thought over what she had just heard. There was no reason for her to...love Draco, he was nasty, evil...and brave, and handsome, but why did they kiss? She had liked that. But Harry's show was...disgusting. It was really nice of Draco to hit Harry in the face. She couldn't have done it better.

"I can't say anything to you now. I'm mad at you. You...you thought that I would prefer a frog's kiss instead of a gentle and warm kiss when the one who kisses you thinks about your satisfaction? You're wrong, Harry."

***

Lucius was lying on bed and reading a book. He had to get to bed early today, because he had some plans for the night. A knock on the door disturbed him from "Lucifer: The Good and the Bad".

"Who's there?" he asked in a stern voice. He didn't like being disturbed when reading a book. A young, beautiful woman came in the room and Lucius melted a little.

"What do you want, honey?" he asked as Narcissa approached the bed. She wore a short, transparent silky nightdress. She came closer to her husband and lay down on him. Lucius put his book aside and hugged his wife. Then he repeated his question.

"What do you want?"

Narcissa started playing with his hair and didn't answer at once. She leaned closer to his face and kissed him on the forehead.

"I just wondered...What do you think we should give Draco as a Christmas present?"

"Honey, it is more than half a year till Christmas." Lucius said, fondling her soft skin.

Narcissa kissed him in the dimple where his neck ended. Lucius sighed and ran his hand through Narcissa's hair.

"What do you have up your sleeve?"

"Maybe we could give Draco a late Christmas gift...our boy...he's so lonely..."

Lucius shrinked. No...no...not that...

"I thought...what if we gave him a baby brother or sister?"

Oh, God, here it goes!

"Do you really think it is such a good idea?" he asked.

"Why not? Wouldn't you like..."

"No, no, I'm not saying anything! It's just...well, shouldn't we ask him first?"

He rolled over so now Narcissa was under him. She stretched and giggled. Lucius loved her giggling. It was so sweet! It sounded like she knew something he did not and that made him want to know that secret of hers. He stroked her neck gently with his finger and moved up to her soft lips, then to her eyes and when the finger stopped at her hair line, he kissed her wildly. She answered him with the same passion. Through her nightdress he could feel goose-flesh on her skin. He slid his hand under her dress and nearly melted. This was his woman, his wife. They had been married for quite a long time now, but he could always find something new in her. He rolled over and Narcissa was on top of him again. Man, he couldn't live if he wouldn't be able to see these beautiful eyes every day. Her soft hair was tickling him and he giggled too.

Narcissa nearly fell out of the bed. Was this really her husband, a Death Eater? That one who was giggling and now tickling her? She couldn't believe her eyes. She loved her husband as nothing else in the world. Lucius took her hand and put it on his chest.

"I love you," he said.

"I don't love you."

"What? Stop joking!" he added as she giggled and kissed him on lips.

"Can I stay with you this night?"

"I have a mission at three o'clock."

"That means I can stay." Narcissa replied and they both, kissing and rolling over each other, got under the blankets and satisfied sighs and other sounds like giggling came from under it.
