The Daughter of the Snake Pt. I
It was a usual, boring day for Serephine. Having no friends makes even the hottest of summers boring.
She was sitting in her tiny room working on her computer. Glancing at the clock, she was not surprised at the time. It was half one in the morning.
She glared at it, knowing her mother would give her grief for being up that late, let alone for being on her computer for five hours straight.
She yawned and turned the computer off. She then grabbed a hair band, tied back her copper hair and got into bed.
She had been lying there for about half an hour when she heard a noise from downstairs.
It sounded as if someone was coming through the door.
'That can't be right,' she thought, frowning. 'The doors are locked and I didn't hear any windows being smashed or anything.'
She was about to go downstairs herself when she heard someone creeping upstairs.
Whoever it was went into her brothers' room first, muttered something, and then came back out. They did the same in her parents' room and then finally entered her room.
Serephine closed her eyes tightly, hoping they would pass her by.
Instead she was tapped on the shoulder.
"Wake up, child," said a male voice. Whoever it was sounded cold and calculating. Not to mention arrogant. "I know you are not asleep, child."
Serephine bit her lip then opened her eyes. In front of her was a man wearing a black cloak with a white mask over his face. She frowned and said, "One; stop calling me 'child', two; who the hell are you, three; what the hell do you want?"
The man smirked and said, "My name is Lucius Malfoy and I am here to take you back to your father, child."
"My dad's in the next room and what did I say about the child thing?" Serephine grated out, glaring at the man.
"By your father I mean your real father, not these idiotic muggles. Did they not tell you of your true parentage?" said Lucius, sounding amused. "Dear me, your father won't be pleased. Now, if you would kindly get dressed I will take you to your father."
Serephine rolled her eyes and realized she really didn't have a choice. "Out while I get dressed."
"You have nothing I haven't seen before," the man assured her, not moving.
"If you don't get out I'll make sure you won't be seeing anything for at least a week!" said Serephine, raising a fist.
"Muggle violence, how low of you to resort to that," said Lucius, bowing out of the room.
Serephine growled after him, and took off her pajamas, swapping them for a pair of baggies and a Blink 182 long-sleeved t-shirt.
She opened the door and asked Lucius, "Will I ever be coming back here?"
"Getting sentimental?" asked Lucius, smirking. "As it is, you won't be coming back, so it might be an idea to take some other clothes."
"Which was why I was asking," said Serephine, glaring at him. "I'll stick some stuff in my bag."
She grabbed the bag at the end of her bed and emptied it on her bed, then grabbed some clothes out of her wardrobe and chest-of-drawers and stuffed them into her bag. She also grabbed a drawing pad, a pencil, a couple of books, her MP3 player and a set of speakers.
Zipping her bag up and slinging it over her shoulder she asked Lucius, "Ready to go?"
He nodded and led her downstairs. "Grab a coat," he said, nodding towards the twenty-odd jackets hanging up in the hall.
Serephine went over to them and grabbed her full-length leather duster. (A/N: duster is another word for coat, in case anyone's getting any kinky ideas! ^.~!)
She put it on and slung her bag back over her shoulder.
Lucius raised an eye brow. "A Goth are we?" he asked, looking amused.
"No shit, Sherlock," said Serephine, glaring at him.
Lucius smirked and walked over to her so he was standing beside her. "We will be apparating to where your father is," said Lucius. He grabbed her arm and they disappeared.
They reappeared in a clearing where the only thing around for miles was a massive abandoned house. Well, everyone else thought it was abandoned.
Lucius led Serephine into the house and through the many rooms until they came to one of the largest ones. In it there was a high backed chair, looking more like a throne, with a shadow sitting in it and a circle of people surrounding it. He walked through the room until he came to the throne-like chair. He kneeled at the base of it, where a man's feet were.
Serephine frowned and looked at the man. If a man is what you could call him.
He was skeletally thin, his fingers were long and his nails were claw-like. The worst was his face.
Long and thin, like him, it was as pale as any ghost, and the only thing alive about it were his snake like blood-red eyes. His lipless mouth was shaped into a smirk and his nose consisted of two tiny slits, like a snake's.
He wore a set of robes that looked as black as an abyss. They clung to his thin form, making him look as though he was carved of shadow.
Serephine suddenly felt very out of place in her baggies, shirt and duster.
"My Lord," muttered Lucius, kissing the hem of his black robes.
"Ah, Lucius, you have returned," said the man in his hissing voice, watching Serephine as Lucius got up. "Is this her?"
"Yes, my Lord," nodded Lucius.
"Come forward, little one," said the man, still looking at Serephine.
"Who are you calling little?" said Serephine, trying not to show that she wanted to be five million miles away from this man. She walked forward, and stood beside Lucius.
"You have spirit, little one," said the man, smirking.
"I thought we'd already covered the 'little one' part," said Serephine, glowering at him.
"You are younger and smaller than me, therefore you are 'little one'," said the man, clearly amused.
"That isn't hard considering you are the tallest and probably the oldest here. Plus, that's discrimination against midgets like me!" said Serephine, rolling her eyes.
"You see, she has a fighting spirit!" said the man, addressing the circle of men. "Death Eaters, this is my soul heir, Serephine. You will not harm her, and you will treat her as you would me."
"My Lord, are you sure it is her?" asked one of the Death Eaters. "She looks nothing like you, nor anything like your former... consort."
"A spell," said the man, idly twirling a long piece of wood between his fingers. "Oh, and Nott, crucio," the man pointed the wood in his hand at the man, and a red beam shot out of it and hit Nott. He doubled over and shrieked in pain, his cries echoing throughout the hall.
"Maybe that will teach you to not to question me," said the man, breaking the beam. "Lucius and Severus, you stay. The rest of you; go."
Serephine watched in shock as the men around the circle disappeared with loud pops.
The remaining Death Eaters stood before the man.
"Severus, I want you to make a potion that will return my daughter to what she should be. I want it tonight. Serephine, you are sixteen, yes?"
"Not yet," said Serephine, looking at him. "But I will be on the thirty-first of July."
"How ironic, my Lord," said Lucius, smirking. "She shares the same birthday as Potter,"
"Ironic indeed," said the man. "Lucius, I want you to take her to your son after I have finished talking with her. We have much to discuss. Severus, you may go."
The other man disappeared.
"Lucius, wait outside," said the man. "I will send for you when I am done."
Lucius nodded and bowed, then walked out of the room.
The man conjured a chair out of thin air and indicated to it. "Sit."
It was not a request.
Serephine shrugged and took her bag off before sitting on the chair, facing the man opposite to her.
"Until today, were you aware that the Muggles you lived with were not your true parents?" he asked, leaning back in his chair.
"No," said Serephine, trying to keep her answers short.
"Were you aware that you are a witch?"
"I'm a witch?" asked Serephine, shocked. "Take that as a no."
"Very well. You will go with Draco Malfoy, Lucius's son, into Diagon Alley and get a wand. Then Lucius and Draco will attempt to teach you all you will have to know to attend Hogwarts, starting in sixth year. I do not know where your mother is, nor do I think she is alive. She, as you may find out once Severus returns with the potion, was not human, nor a witch. I do not know what she was; only that she had wings on her back, which you will most likely have inherited."
"No wonder everyone always stayed away from me," muttered Serephine.
"They could feel the power that is hidden in you, just as I can," said the man, smirking. "You will be just as powerful as I, if not more."
"Great," muttered Serephine under her breath, as Severus appeared with a loud pop.
"I have it, my Lord," he said, holding up a long vial with a green liquid in it.
"Give it to Serephine," said the man.
Severus nodded and handed it to her.
She eyed it and said, "How do I know this isn't poison?"
"Because Severus wouldn't be as stupid as to poison you because he knows what I would do to him," said the man. "Now drink."
"Bottoms up," said Serephine, downing the vile tasting liquid.
Immediately after drinking it she felt as though someone was rearranging her face, which, she supposed, was pretty accurate. She also felt two things piercing her back, making her grind her teeth in pain. Her hair started growing at a tremendous rate, until it lay on the floor in masses, as did her finger and toe nails.
"Bugger," said Serephine, once the transformation was complete, as she looked at her trainers. "Ruined my goddamned shoes. Not to mention the holes in my shirt and duster."
She gingerly took off her shoes and socks and examined her feet.
"Got nail clippers anyone?" she asked sarcastically.
Her father waved his wand and the excess nail fell away.
"Cheers," she said, inspecting her finger nails. "Can I get a mirror?"
Her father nodded and flicked his wand and a full length mirror appeared.
Serephine struggled not to gasp as she stared at her reflection.
As the man had said, she had wings. What he had failed to mention was that the wings would look like an Angel's wings gone wrong. They reached from the top of her head to the ground and were black. Not just ordinary black, but a black that was as dark as midnight on Halloween, yet seemed to sparkle like the stars on a clear night.
Having wings on her back was not the only change. Her face was thinner and longer, and much, much more pale. Her hair and eyes had changed colour, her hair going from copper to jet black and her eyes going from brown to a turquoise that sparkled like the water of the Mediterranean Sea. She also noticed that, although her fingers and face were longer, she had gotten smaller.
"Great," she muttered. "I'm even more midgetized!"
"Your mother was smaller than that," said the man, clearly amused.
"What was my mother? A Hobbit with wings?!" cried Serephine, looking up at the man.
"Hobbit?" asked the man, frowning at the word he didn't know.
"A fictional creature from the book The Lord of the Rings," explained Serephine.
The man nodded, not sure how to deal with this information. "Now I will let you go with Lucius."
Lucius came through the door as though he heard his name being mentioned.
"My Lord, will I take... your daughter back with me now?"
"Yes," said the man. "And you will address her as 'Mistress'. Now go."
Lucius nodded, took Serephine's arm and they disappeared with a loud pop.
