Chapter 8: Broken Part 2

"Donna?" he asked softly, not opening the curtains until he heard her say he could. "Donna? Are you awake?"

Donna heard a boy outside her four-poster and froze. It was Justin. She forced herself to stop crying and she jumped out of her bed, running to the mirror. She cast a glamour charm on her face once again and she realized that this was second time it was Justin that was cause of her tears.

Once she was sure she could control her tears, she walked over to the curtains and opened them, looking down at the red carpet.

"What do you want?" she asked in a barely audible voice.

"DJ, ple-."

"Don't call me that. My name isn't 'DJ'. It's Donna."

"I'm sorry. Donna, please let me talk to you. Can I please come in?"

She hesitated, not knowing if she would be able to control herself with Justin in her room. Finally, she nodded and stepped back. He smiled at her, walked in, and sat down on her bed. Donna knew that if they were both on her bed then she defiantly wouldn't be able to control herself, so she sat down cross-legged on the floor.

"Okay, talk," she said, playing with a loose string on the carpet. She looked up at him and saw that he was very uncomfortable for some reason.

"DJ-Donna, please," he said. "Come sit by me. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable by me."

She shook her head and said, "I'm fine right here, thank you." He frowned.

"Fine," he said. "Then I'll come sit by you." Then he came over to her and sat down in front of her crossing his legs.

She wanted to move but she also didn't want him to think he repulsed her so she stayed put.

"What do want, Justin?" she asked softly not looking him in the eyes because she thought she might cry if she did.

"I know what you saw, Donna," he whispered. "But I swear that it's not what you think it was."

"Then what was it?" she asked and she felt tears burning into eyes.

"I am in no way interested in that girl, Donna. She wanted me to take her to Hogsmeade this Saturday, but I said no, and she thought that if she kissed me then I would say yes. But I didn't. I didn't want to take her."

"You didn't seem to be fighting too hard," she said, and stood up, walking over to her vanity. She looked into the mirror and saw Justin stand up and walk over to her.

"DJ-."

"Donna."

"Donna, will you please just talk to me like we used to?"

"We haven't talked the way we 'used to' since the day in the empty room together, Justin," she said, looking at herself in the mirror.

"You haven't looked at me yet," he said sadly. "Look into my eyes and you'll how bloody sorry I am."

"I can't," she said, chocking on her tears. Donna felt hands on her shoulders and she tensed up. "Don't touch me." Then she was being turned around and Justin was standing in front of her. She looked to the floor but he picked her face up and put his hands on her cheeks to keep her from looking away from him. In his eyes she saw pain, sadness, regret...and love. She froze and then she couldn't look away.

"You have no idea how hard I tried to stop thinking about you so much," he whispered, caressing her cheeks with his thumbs. "But it would never work. I could never stop. Everything about you amazes me, from your talent, to your beauty, to your personality, everything. You are completely stunning.

"And it is torturing me, knowing that I can't be with you, but it is killing me to know that I am the one making you cry. I never want to be with any other girl besides you but I can't. I never want to be the one causing your pain."

"Why can't we be together, Justin?" she asked. "Why can't we?" Then she was horrified when she felt something wet on her face, but she couldn't wipe away her tears.

"I'm much too old for you," he whispered, wiping away her tears. He was surprised when he too felt tears creeping into his eyes. "Everybody would go -."

"But they wouldn't be the one dating me or you," she said. "Besides, you once said that they are only people and that I shouldn't care about what they do. Does that only go to me, or to everybody?"

He was quiet. He hadn't realized this, but he still knew that they couldn't be together. "The professors would be furious. Rumors would be spread. It would create cha-."

"You preach that you like me so much, but you keep finding excuses to keep us from dating. If you mean that than why did you even come here? You wouldn't care that I had seen you with another girl, but you did. So why did you even run after me and then keep coming up with excuses to keep us apart?"

"Because I...I don't know why," he whispered and Donna's heart sank. She hadn't expected him to cry out that he loved her or anything but she had hoped he would.

"Then I think you should just leave," her voice broke and she started crying again. She looked to the floor and stepped away from Justin.

He didn't say anything. Justin just stared at her, tears falling down his cheeks. He wiped them away and walked away from her.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, before leaving. Donna just stood there for a minute after he left and then she curled up in her bed and cried harder than she had ever cried before.

Justin walked down the stairs after he placed a glamour charm to make it seem like he had never cried. But when Lily saw him coming down the tears deeply saddened, she knew something was not right. Something terrible had happened.

"What happened," Lily asked softly? She walked over to her cousin and led him to sit down on the couch next to her.

"She told me to leave," he whispered like he couldn't believe it. "I can't believe it. I seriously thought that if I apologized to her she would forgive me. I thought everything would be perfect again if I told her I was sorry."

"Did you tell her you loved her?" Lily asked, thinking about what could've made Donna tell Justin to go away.

"I told her how much I liked her, but I didn't say that I loved her because I didn't want to freak her out. What did I do, Lily?"

"I think all she wants to hear is that you love her as much as she loves you. I think that you made her happy when you told her you liked her, but she wants to you to love her." He gave her a very confused looked. "Girls are weird like this. But that's all we want."

"I doubt she'll even talk to me again. I messed things up big time. I wouldn't be surprised if she hates me."

"She could never hate you."

"How do you know?"

"You can't change your feelings for somebody that quick. If you love someone that much it would take years for it to change to hate, maybe even never. And I know Donna loves you a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised if she never stops loving you."

"Yeah well that's you."

"Yes. That is me, and I know from personal experience what I am talking about, Justin, so if you don't take my word for it you will never get Donna to talk to you again. Goodnight, Justin."

Then she left and Justin was left alone to think about everything.

Author notes: y is it so hard for boys to tell a girl they love them? i mean really? now again, do not go ahead quite yet...review first.
