Without you, it’s gonna be a black night.
Without you, there’s gonna be a dark sky.
Wit out you, to bring on the light,
I know that, it’s gonna be a black night.

Chapter Six: The Rescue

Kodac wandered about the castle in a daze. He couldn’t stop thinking about Parvati, what might be happening to her, how he could have let her be kidnapped. He was withdrawn and forlorn. Harry and Hermione worried about him.

“He’s depressed. He’s distressed over Parvati’s kidnapping,” Hermione told Harry.

“I know. I’d feel the same way,” he replied. He and Hermione were discussing Kodac in an empty classroom. It was Monday night, and Kodac was getting ready to go. Harry was thinking of following him on his broomstick, to see if he could help.

“Poor Parvati, she’s probably been tortured and hurt,” Hermione sobbed quietly. Harry awkwardly put his arms around her. She cried into his shoulder.

“Thanks, Harry,” she softly. She looked up into his eyes and put a hand to his cheek. “You’re so sweet,” she whispered. The bell rang, making them both jump. They headed to Charms class.

The clock chimed. Eleven o’clock. Kodac got up from lying on his bed and got ready to go.

Minutes later, he closed the door. He walked into the forest, not knowing that Harry was silently following on his Firebolt.

Kodac kept walking. He didn’t know where he was going. He stopped and sat against a tree. Then he heard a voice, “Come to the next clearing on the path.” He got up and did as he was told.

Kodac stepped into the meadow. He waited again. Before long, Lucius stepped out of the shadows, dragging Parvati, bound and gagged, behind him on her feet. She was still wearing the robe she had worn Saturday night. Kodac’s relief that she was safe must have shown on his face, because Lucius spoke.

“Are you alone?” he asked.

“Yes,” Kodac replied.

“Good. Now, come here and give me your sword,” Lucius ordered. Kodac stepped slowly up to him, and handed Alassor over, handle first.

“There. Are you satisfied? Let Parvati go. I will gladly take her place,” Kodac said.

Lucius smiled nastily. “Oh, she’s not done yet,” he sneered. He snapped his fingers, and ropes appeared out of nowhere and bound Kodac as well. Before Harry could curse him or swoop down and save them both, Lucius Disapparated, holding both of them by the scruff of their necks. Harry swore loudly, then flew top speed back to Dumbledore to tell him what happened.

Kodac came to. He found himself and Parvati, unconscious, in a dungeon cell. He instinctively felt for his sword, but it wasn’t there. As he knew it wouldn’t be. He got up, and found himself to be unbound. The last thing he remembered was being Stunned again as soon as the world re-materialized. Parvati was also unbound. He shook her awake.

“Mmm, Kodac? What happened?” she said groggily. “Where are we?”

“I don’t know where we are, but we’re in a cell somewhere. I came as told by the note, and here I am. We’ve got to get out of here,” Kodac told her. He looked around after helping Parvati to her feet.

“I don’t have my wand,” she complained.

“Dumbledore has it; he said he found it by the tree,” Kodac replied. Parvati nodded. He looked around again. He noticed two beds next to the wall, a locked door, and a small window near the ceiling. He felt the familiar tingling of an anti-magic field in the room, so he couldn’t use magic to escape. He sighed. He didn’t know how they could escape. If only he had Alassor, he could remove the anti-magic barrier. He turned to see Parvati watching him.

“How do we get out of here?” Parvati asked.

Kodac shook his head. “I don’t know. I hope we can find one, get my sword back, and get out of here. If it weren’t for the anti-magic field, I could call my sword to me from anywhere.” He was scared. He hated admitting it, but he was scared. He didn’t want Parvati to know he was scared, in case she panicked.

Out of nowhere, a voice boomed. “Bring the prisoners to me. And don’t forget the boy’s sword, either!” it commanded. Within a couple of minutes, Lucius walked in, carrying Alassor. Kodac was ready. Lucius was looking at Parvati. Kodac jumped up and kicked him in the back of the head. He fell in a heap. Making sure he was out, and that the sword was indeed his sword, Kodac motioned to Parvati to follow him. He peered out the door.

Nothing there. He slipped out. Right hand on his sword, left hand holding Parvati’s, Kodac crept down the hall in absolute silence. He peered around the corner. He stole down this empty hallway. It ended with a door. He tried it. Locked. No luck. He stole down to the other end and tried the door there. Success! He opened and pushed through it.

“Well, well, well,” Lord Voldemort was standing there, waiting for them. Parvati gasped in fear, and stood behind Kodac. Kodac steeled himself for a fight.

Voldemort raised his wand and pointed it at Kodac. “Crucio!” he cried. Kodac was experiencing pain as he never knew it before. His eyes rolled in agony. When Voldemort finally lifted the spell, Kodac ached all over. He slowly stood back up. As Voldemort raised his wand at Parvati, Kodac chanted, “Oher aosm sitmone!” Voldemort flew back and hit the wall as his wand soared up to the ceiling then fell back to the ground at Kodac’s feet. Kodac snatched it up and gave it to Parvati.

“You can use that, until we can give to Dumbledore, ok?” he asked her. Parvati nodded, then shrieked. Whirling around, Kodac saw two werewolves coming at him. They were twice as big as the one at Hogwarts had been. He raised his sword; Parvati raised Voldemort’s wand. Kodac charged at them with bellow. He whirled, dodged, jumped, slashed, thrusted, dodged again, and slashed again. Parvati had used the Impedimenta Curse on one, and luckily hit in the eye, freezing it for a moment. Kodac used that moment and removed its head clean off its body. He barely dodged a snap of teeth from the other werewolf. Kodac spun around, and as he did so he try to kill it as he done at Hogwarts. But this one was smarter; it ducked the blow, then bowled over Kodac.

Kodac fell back. He could smell the creature’s foul breath as it loomed over him. Parvati screamed. She pointed the wand at it, but she was doing nothing more than aggravating it. It turned its attention to Parvati. Kodac was able to crawl away and recover his dropped sword. As the wolf prepared to jump at Parvati, Kodac stabbed down into its back with Alassor, a blue light shining along the blade. The wolf howled in agony and died.

Kodac and Parvati were panting. Wiping his sword on the dead wolf and sheathing it, he beckoned to Parvati to follow him. He shut the door behind them and locked it just as Voldemort go to it. They ran to the first door. Kodac whipped out his sword and chopped it into two pieces. It fell away, and they burst outside into a deep, dark forest. Putting Alassor away again, Kodac ran, with Parvati running with him, away from Voldemort’s fortress deep in the woods.

They ran, and ran, and ran. They couldn’t keep it up, however, for very long. Parvati soon had to slow down. Kodac slowed with her; he wasn’t going to leave her behind. Trying to catch her breath, she turned to Kodac and gave him a hug.

“I knew you’d come for me, Kodac,” she whispered into his ear. Then she sobbed. She told him how they had used the Cruciatus Curse on her; how they threatened to use Avada Kedavra on her; how they starved and beaten her. Kodac held her tightly, trying to calm her down.

Parvati’s sobbing quieted. Kodac pulled away to look into her eyes. He nodded, and then began to chant.

Aoth odhtemzay, ughth albhemsn! Ahygta, aiutmna iaus htyasuyashi! Asomro, compeachy, somone!” A blue light surrounded them. Kodac and Parvati both thought of Hogwarts. As the light faded, they found themselves out of the forest and on the grounds of Hogwarts, just outside the front door.

The door crashed open and Dumbledore came out, followed by Harry, Hermione, and Ron. They halted when they saw Kodac and Parvati, shivering in the sudden cold; they didn’t have cloaks, and it was near Christmas. Dumbledore drew them in and immediately brought them to the infirmary.

Kodac and Parvati shivered again. They were in bed, in the infirmary. Madam Pomfrey clucked as she checked them over. She bustled over them. She gave them both a quaff of PepperUp Potion. When she was satisfied, Dumbledore came up; the Trio had gone off to find Lavender and tell her the good news.

“Can either of you tell me what happened?” Dumbledore asked, once again emanating that sense of energy. Parvati told what happened before Kodac came at midnight, then they both told their points of view of what happened afterwards.

When they were finished, Kodac remembered something. He pulled out Voldemort’s wand from his pocket.

“What’s that, Kodac?” Dumbledore inquired. Kodac handed it to the Headmaster.

“Voldemort’s wand, sir. I used my own disarming spell and took it from him,” Kodac explained. Dumbledore smiled and beamed at him.

“With this wand, I can finally banish Voldemort for good, I believe. As well as help you back to Seabring, Kodac,” Dumbledore said.

Kodac thought for a moment. He looked at Parvati, who was silently sobbing. He looked back at Dumbledore.

“With all due respect, Headmaster, I’m not sure if I want to go back.”
