Author's Note:
Sorry, I forgot to mention: Our favorite DADA teacher, Professor Lupin, is again teaching at his old post. He’ll play a vital role in this chapter, and maybe chapters to come. BTW, Ardra is the same as Middle-earth, and is mentioned (and is most of the setting of) in Technomad’s

Chapter 2: The Werewolf

"Go, my pet. Go and harass the students of Hogwarts, and let Harry try to beat you off!"

Harry sighed. History of Magic was always boring. To pass the time, he reminisced on how he captured Wormtail, who had betrayed his parents, and indeed, his godfather, Sirius Black, and turned him over to the Ministry of Magic. Thus, he cleared Sirius’ name, and the Ministry, aware of it’s large blunder, paid Sirius a thousand Galleons for each year he had spent in Azkaban and two hundred fifty Galleons for the three years that he had spent on the run as compensation.

Ron tugged on Harry’s arm, jerking him from his doze. "Dumbledore would like a word with us. Something important," he said.

They followed Professor McGonagall through the corridors and through the entrance to Dumbledore’s office. McGonagall did not follow them, as she had to return to her class. When the moving staircase had carried them to the door, Harry knocked tentatively with the knocker.

Kodac and Dumbledore reached his office without great incident. Dumbledore had sent a short note to Professor McGonagall to bring Harry, Hermione, and Ron to his office. Dumbledore sat in his chair and asked Kodac to sit down, which he was about to do anyway.

"So, tell me, what were you doing before you appeared in the woods?"

"How did you know…?" Kodac began, but Dumbledore chuckled lightly.

"You can’t expect us to relax the extra-sensitive Anti-Dark Magic spells we’ve put about the place, what with Lord Voldemort on the rise, would you?" Dumbledore chided lightly.

"Well, no…anyway, I was exploring a cave, trying to find why some villagers went in and not come out," Kodac explained. "I saw a point of light in the distance, and headed toward it. When I was surrounded by it, something like a shadow appeared and drew its sword. After I fenced with it awhile, it landed a kick and sent me to the ground. My sword was suddenly sheathed and I couldn’t move. The light went black, and images raced by, when one stopped and came into focus."

"Would that image be the spot where you came to in the forest?" Dumbledore cut in. Kodac nodded.

"As I was gathering my bearings, I heard an exclamation, something about a unicorn," Kodac began again.

"Ah, yes, Miss Patil and Miss Brown spend a lot of their free time chasing after unicorns. They are quite smitten with them," Dumbledore said.

"Oh, is that their names?" Kodac inquired. When Dumbledore nodded, he continued. He told the Headmaster how he had watched them from the trees, and followed them from above, and was getting to the point where he had seen Dumbledore in the distance when a knock on the door sounded.

"Come in, Harry," Dumbledore said. In trooped Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Ron gasped softly when he saw Kodac. Hermione stared at Kodac in wonder. Harry was looking at Dumbledore and hadn’t yet seen him. "Please, all of you, sit down, and I will explain why I have called you here."

"As Harry noticed, though he didn’t know what it was that he noticed, there was an alarm of Dark Wizarding in the forest near the greenhouses. This," he began, and let Hermione gasp and Ron’s eyes widen, "was not a Dark spell, but since it gave off a strong resonance, it set the alarms off. When McGonagall arrived there last night, this gentleman," waving a hand at Kodac, "was found there, unconscious."

Harry looked over at him for the first time. "Hey, you look just like me, only without glasses," was all he said. Kodac nodded again.

"Yes, I brought him here, since I was afraid students might mistake him for you, and ask where your glasses had got to," Dumbledore’s eye twinkled again. "I used the Invisio spell in case we met any students wandering the halls."

Kodac went on to introduce himself to the Trio. Dumbledore soon continued his explanation.

"It is my belief that Kodac comes to us through a cross-dimensional portal. While they can be used for Dark Magic, and can made at will through Dark Magic, they are naturally-occurring. They don’t upset the cross-dimensional balance, however. One was hiding in a cave near Kodac’s home, and sent wandering townspeople to other dimensions."

"You mean there are dimensions and worlds outside our own?" Harry asked, skillfully interrupting at the end of a statement.

Dumbledore looked at him for a moment, then smiled. "Yes. That’s exactly what I mean. Now, where was I? Ah, yes, cross-dimensional portals. They are not very easily counter-acted; indeed, Osgoth the Wanderer went through several of them, never finding a way to counteract them before he died in the dimension of Ardra. However, I believe Seabring might need one of their best knights around, and therefore we should find a way to send him back. Blindly wandering through every cross-dimensional portal you come across is an extremely long shot in the dark. There are several thousands dimensions other than our own. We must…."

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" a sudden shriek rent the air.

"That sounds like Parvati," Hermione gasped as they ran out the door. Making up his mind, after glancing at the ground below Dumbledore’s window, Kodac opened the window and leapt to the ground. He landed easily, and looked for the sound of the screaming.

Not far from him, one of the girls he’d seen from the morning and several younger kids were running from what looked like a large werewolf. Drawing his silver Alassor, he stepped in the way of the wolf’s charge.

The werewolf leapt at him with shocking speed. Kodac dodged to the side, barely avoiding a scratch. As he dodged, he swiped at the beast’s fore and hind legs, removing the former and scoring a massive cut to the latter. Its wounded howl tore through the air, and the entire school, as well as a giant from the hut, come running to the scene. Kodac thrusted his sword into its heart, but it jumped over him. Kodac, anticipating the move, spun around and neatly removed the fowl creature’s head.

Kodac wiped his weapon on the grass and sheathed it again, as every Professor, save Binns, as well as Hagrid, Harry, Hermione, and Ron came running up.

Ron was in awe. He was the first to notice Kodac hadn’t followed him, and wondered how he had survived against the beast, as well as to how he got there before they did. Parvati and the first years were a subdued group; they were more than a little shocked. Hermione stared with disbelieving eyes. Harry was watching Kodac closely. The Professors and Hagrid was investigating the wolf.

Dumbledore turned to Kodac. "How did you get here before I did?" he asked.

Kodac shrugged casually. "Leapt through the window," he replied. Many of the students gasped.

Dumbledore looked at him, eyes twinkling yet wearing disbelief. "My office is six stories up. You couldn’t possibly jump that far and not be hurt."

Kodac shrugged again. "Well, I just did. And I’m sure everyone here saw me deal with this foul beast." Lupin winced, although Kodac was mentioning the dead werewolf and not Lupin. Nor did Kodac know of Lupin’s condition.

Lupin was uneasy about the creature, though. "Werewolves do not get this big. Plus, it smells of unnaturalness," he quietly whispered to Dumbledore, who nodded.

Dumbledore turned from Kodac to the rest of the students. "Please, go back to your classrooms. I would like Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, and Miss Granger to stay," he called aloud. He turned to McGonagall. "Could I ask you to run to the kitchen and inform the house-elves what have happened?" McGonagall nodded and walked away.

Harry and Ron looked at Kodac. "How did you do that?" they asked in unison.
