Chapter Five: The Sorting Hat - Continued

"Can you help me I'm bent? I'm so scared that I'll never get put back together..."
-Matchbox 20

"Slytherin?!" Luella whispered, glancing over at their table. One girl in particular had a face as though she was pinched, and then punched in the nose. Her eyes were blue, but not babyish at all. They were almost steely and iron gray. "Maybe not..."

"Well...the next choice is Gryffindor..." The hat whispered in her ear, sounding even more tired and annoyed than before. Luella glanced over at the table in question. The lot were much more pleasant. She glanced over towards Velia and Dan, who were still hugging. Velia was looking at her with a contented smile on her face.

Suddenly realizing she could see out from under the hat, Luella wondered why it didn't go over her eyes like everyone else.

"Well then..." The hat, now livid, screamed, "GRYFFINDOR!"

Smiling at the response she had created, Luella sat next to Velia.

"Bloody well done mate!" An older student smiled. "Me name's Owen, I'm a second year. Pleased to meet you mate. Gryffindor's the best house to be in, my opinion." Owen had dark hair with light brown eyes. His nose was very prominent on his face, but it was very adorable all the same. Owen had a very slight acne problem, but it only proved he was human so Luella overlooked it. "I'm a chaser, almost beat the youngest player record, but that was a first year that made that just about a century ago. Madame McGonagall was desperate, our chaser last year graduated and no one else wanted the job."

"Weasley, Percy!"

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shrieked. It sounded as if it wanted nothing more than to go back to wherever it came from and get rid of these kids. Luella stood up and cheered with the rest as Percy sat down next to her.

"Remotest, Elliot!" The yellow-eyed boy stood forward. He smirked as the hat slid down over his eyes. Almost immediately the hat screamed,

"SLYTHERIN!" Hisses and cheers filled the air as Elliot went to sit down at the table. Finally, there was only one person left... Legolas. He didn't even look nervous, standing up there alone. In fact, he looked as if he were alone on a sandy beach.

"Covikia, Orlando Legolas!" Professor McGonagall looked twice at the list. She held up her hand to stop Legolas from coming up, and turned to Professor Dumbledore. They began talking in sharp whispers, and everyone knew whom they were talking about. What... what was the mystery.

"Oh... all right!" They all heard Professor McGonagall sigh. The hall was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. "Orlando, please come up here."

Now slightly pale, Legos marched forward and sat on the stool. McGonagall slowly put on the hat, and she stepped away slowly. Almost immediately it started screaming.

Everyone in the hall went on the floor, covering their ears with their hands. Legolas himself threw the hat off and began shuddering. He slumped to the floor with his hands over his ears and lay there. His eyes were closed tightly, and his face was white...whiter than snow. The teachers moved. Two of them ran out of the hall, but the rest of them stayed in the hall. Professor McGonagall hurried to Legos with her wand. She mumbled some words to stop the hat, and immediately everyone slowly got up to their feet.

Legolas, however, kept shivering.

"Wow..." Luella heard Owen mumble. As she looked around, everyone was pale and withdrawn. No one had expected such an outburst from the hat. As if snapping out of her daze, Velia leapt up and ran forward.

"Legolas!" She kneeled next to her brother and hugged him, her hair covering his face. She rubbed his arms, as if trying to warm him up. "Brother, sit up! Come on!"

"Move aside girl!" Professor McGonagall had placed the hat back up on the stool, and now stood towering over the two siblings. "Madame Pomfrey will be here in a moment."

As if on cue, a stern looking woman wearing a nurse's outfit charged forward with the two teachers who had left.

"Oh dear...Oh dear, help me! We need to get him to the hospital wing!" Madame Pomfrey, or the woman Luella assumed was Madame Pomfrey, created a stretcher with her wand, a short whippy one that was kind of a yellowish color. The taller of the two teachers magicked Legolas onto the stretcher with his wand, and proceeded with Madame Pomfrey to what seemed to be the hospital wing.

Immediately whispers shook the hall. But Velia didn't come back to sit at the table with the rest of the Gryffindors, though she was visibly shaken and upset.

"What the *hell* just happened?" She screamed, and the hall became silent. Professor McGonagall walked over to Velia, looking sympathetic.

"Come with me, I'll show you to the hospital wing." The two walked out of the hall, Dan looking wistful after Velia, as if he wanted to run after her.

"This is some messed up shit." Owen stared wide-eyed after McGonagall and Velia. "I don't think this has ever happened before."

"And it has to happen to her brother?" Dan chimed in. Luella frowned and comforted him. "I know Legolas. He's an awesome guy. How can you not know one without the other? That's almost like asking could you know peanut butter without the jelly.

"Most siblings aren't close. Velia and Orlando are. They're closer than some married couples, without the romance. Something that happens to one has to happen to the other. Like this-" Dan motioned around the room.

Luella was kind of confused, why would Hogwarts only happen to one of them? She was about to ask when she noticed a tall, wizened man stand up. The hall silenced, and he began to speak, his eyes troubled.

"Please settle down. I'm sure Mr. Covikia will be just fine. Now I know that has never happened before, but we need to continue. It is another year at Hogwarts. Our feast is ready, but before we begin I would like to say a few words. Neon! Demur! Ambiance! Nepotism!

"Thank you!"

Luella stifled a giggle as she caught Velma's eye over at the Ravenclaw table. But despite the mountains of food that suddenly appeared on the plates, one thing still troubled her. What had happened to Legolas?

It would still trouble her in her fourth year.
