Chapter one: Draco's infatuation

There she was, like she was everyday. Draco's eyes wandered up and down her body that was shaped perfectly with her school robes. Laura Dorsky was all he ever wanted since she'd transferred into Hogwarts. He felt his face get warm as she turned around and smiled at him before sitting at her potions table with her fellow Gryffindor Jessica Greenleaf. He watched as they started to whisper about something and giggling. He and Laura had been friends ever since he'd knocked her over on the platform and Draco was still in shock that he was falling for a Gryffindor. Somehow she had done something to him that changed the way he felt about the Gryffindors, or at least one of them. Laura and Jessica's giggling ceased when Snape banged into the room unhappy as usual.

Draco's mind did not want to pay attention that particular day because the announcements were just posted around school that the annual Christmas Ball was coming up. He really wanted to ask her but didn't know how; stuff like this usually came easily to him. His charm and radiance got him anywhere with the ladies, but not this one.

Draco remembered back to the day when he first tried to introduce himself, it wasn't so bad looking back on it now.

Draco trudged onto platform 9 ¾, knowing he was going to have a bad year. His father had been taken into custody, his mother was drinking more and well he seemed to be the only sane one in his family. His summer wasn't that great either because h spent it alone. Draco always spent his summers alone, in the confines of his mansion. He got lost in his thoughts and eventually ran into someone. He knocked them to the ground and was about to snap then he saw their face. It was a girl, a beautiful girl, and one he'd never seen before.

"My apologies, I didn't see you," Draco said as he helped her to her feet.

"It's alright, not the first time it's happened this morning, some idiot redhead and his messy haired friend did the same thing," she said as she gathered her things. Soon a dark brown haired girl came to join Draco and this new girl. Before Draco could introduce himself formally, the new girl was pulled away and onto the train. Draco kicked himself inwardly and walked onto the train also, realizing that the idiot redhead and his friend were none other than Weasel and Potty. He smiled at the thought of her not being in league with the trio. He walked along the train to find a compartment and found one he could have to himself. He sat down and closed his eyes, wanting sleep for the long journey. His eyes opened to the laughter he heard coming from the next compartment. Normally he would've ignored it but went next door out of curiosity. That's where he saw her again, sitting there laughing with her friend. They stopped laughing when Draco opened the door.

"Hello, sorry to bother you but I heard you laughing next door and-"

"Actually come in we were just talking about you," said the dark brown haired girl. Draco was shocked, they were talking about him? He grinned and sat down next to the girl he'd knocked over.

"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Draco Malfoy." Draco smiled and kissed the girls hand. He smiled again when he saw her blush.

"I'm Laura Dorsky, and this is my friend Jessica Greenleaf." Laura said, gently taking her hand away from Draco.

"Pleased to meet you both, are you new to Hogwarts?"

"Draco Malfoy, would you please join the rest of the class and tell us what markings you would find on a werewolf?" Snape snapped. Draco felt himself turn red and said he didn't know. Laura looked back at him and had a look on her face like she was asking him something. He just shrugged and looked down at his paper, which now had words forming upon it. Draco looked up at Laura to see her writing with a green quill identical to the one Draco had. These were not normal quills, they were something that Draco had made up and seriously was considering selling them to Fred and George. These green quills passed notes to the carrier of the identical quill. Draco fished out his own quill and finished reading what Laura had written before responding.

"What's the matter with you? Are you feeling alright?"

"I feel fine, I just got lost in my thoughts is all..." Draco wrote back.

"What were you smiling about? Must've been a good thought." Laura wrote.

Draco laughed a bit and wrote back that he was thinking about the day they met. Soon class was over and he smiled as he packed up his things, still wondering if he had the balls to ask Laura to the dance. He watched her file out with Jessica laughing about something and waved back as the girls waved so long. Draco wandered down the Hallway to the Great Hall for lunch, hexing a first year along the way. He and Laura were friends and he was in love with her, but he hid that away. Their friendship was one that he didn't want to break; in fact she was his only friend. He sat at the Slytherin table throwing a glance the Gryffindor table, seeing her again laughing along with a few people. Laura always seemed like a happy person, never showed that there was something wrong and that was one reason amongst many why Draco fell hard for her. His trance snapped when he saw Dean Thomas sit down next to her and began whispering. She nodded and hugged him, Draco felt jealousy surge through him and stormed out of the Great Hall. On his way out he collided with Jessica who was on her way in.

"Sorry Jess, what happened to you?" Draco smirked.

"I was in the library if you must know, um studying," Jessica said as she began to blush.

"Studying what? Orli's eyes, smile, lips?" he teased as she blushed harder. She said so long and went to the Hall to join Laura and the Gryffindors. Draco looked back at Laura and Dean once more, felt the jealousy sting at his heart and walked into the library.

"Why can't I stop thinking about her?" Draco asked himself as he sat down at a table in the back. He knew damn well why but now it was actually getting to him, like it was eating at him from the inside. He sighed in frustration rubbed the tiredness from his eyes, lunch was almost over and soon he would be on his way to DADA class with the Gryffindors. Draco liked Thursdays because he saw Laura all day. Plus he sat next to her in DADA. In the middle of his thoughts about what he should do about Laura, a voice interrupted him.

"Hey there! What are you doing here by yourself?" asked Laura.

"Nothing, just thinking." Draco smiled.

"Good thoughts I hope," Laura winked. He laughed a bit and ran his hand through his hair.

"Wanna head to class?" Draco asked as he stood to leave.

"I'd love to go to class, will you be my escort?"

Draco nodded and offered his arm out to her. Laura took it and walked along next to Draco towards the DADA classroom. Out of curiosity, Draco asked what Dean had wanted at lunchtime. He severely hoped she didn't get asked to the ball. It turned out that Dean wanted to ask Jessica and consulted Laura to see what his chances of not being rejected were. Draco felt relief sweep over him, Dean didn't ask Laura to the ball. They kept walking down the hall, waving at people they knew and joking about simple things. Draco was then struck with a wonderful idea; he could be Laura's secret admirer! Then he could ask her to meet him at the ball, where she couldn't say no when she saw him. It was too perfect, a foolproof plan and Draco patted himself on the back for it. They had reached class and went for their seats. Draco now had a full day of school where he didn't pay attention, his thoughts were now lost in how he should start with the secret admirer stuff. This wasn't going to be easy he told himself.
