Chapter 6- Sirius's Return
Sirius Black came over about a month later to give his congratulations.
"I won't be able to come to the wedding. I am still a wanted man." He gave a sad smile. "I would give anything to be at your wedding."
"Oh, no, Sirius! You have to come!"
"Yeah," I cried, joining in Hermione's pleas. We both knew it was almost impossible. Suddenly, Hermione's eyes lit up.
"I know a way! I'll be back in a few minutes. Sirius, don't you dare leave!"
She ran up the stairs excitedly.
"Um, Sirius. I want you to know that, if you can come, I wanted to know," I slowly stuttered over my words, "will you be my best man? Since Harry's dead, and you have been a good friend to Harry and me. I'd truly be honored."
"I'd love to," Sirius said, giving me a hug. "So, George and Fred mentioned that Hermione had a few missing years. Ever find out where she was after she quit the A.W.E?"
"Yeah, I found out," I said, trying not to smile. If Sirius knew....... I began cracking up right there. "Sirius, she was with Snape."
Sirius spit out the pumpkin juice he was drinking. "WHAT?! As ... like a group or for help in research or something ... right?"
"Nope. As a relationship." He took one glance at me, and ran up the stairs.
"HERMIONE!!" He ran up the stair and into Hermione's laboratory. "Hermione Granger, what is this that you fiancée tells me about you and one Severus Snape." I quickly ran behind him and tried to mouth 'I'm Sorry' to her, but I was trying to hide my laughter.
"Er, well, Sirius... Severus and I were romantically involved at one point...."
"I'll kill him!" Sirius threatened. "Come here! I'll knock some sense into you!" He chased her around the table.
"Sirius!" she shrieked. "Calm down!" I went and held Sirius back.
"She dated Snape," he said, as if looking for a confirmation.
"And lived with him," I prompted.
"And lived with him? Hermione! You're supposed to be the smartest witch in your day!"
"Er, Sirius, I have a way you can get into the wedding! Polyjuice potion! You can turn into one of my uncles, who is too sick to go!" I could tell Hermione was eager to change the subject. Sirius could tell, too.
"Good plan Hermione! Now, I'll see the best friends of Lily and James' son," Sirius sighed happily. "But I warn you, I still intend to hunt Snape down." Sirius hugged me, and then kissed Hermione on the cheek. As we walked out, I heard him mumble something about a 'greasy slimy git'.
Hermione looked at me. "Well, Sirius knows."
"Yeah, but you have to admit, it was the same reaction that Harry would've done."
She nodded.
Chapter 7: Our Wedding
Six months later, I stood anxiously at the front of the church. By my side stood Sirius, in Polyjuice form as Hermione's Uncle Keith. It was really funny, because everyone on Hermione's side of the family kept hugging him. "Ron!" he hissed. "One of these old women just pinched my butt!"
"I swear, I am going to have to meet Mione's uncle Keith for real one day. He seems to be quiet active for someone his age," I laughed. Sirius shot me a dirty look. Suddenly, the Wedding March started. Hermione came down the aisle.
Looking beautiful.
When she finally got to me, Mr. Granger held on to her. It seemed as if he didn't want to let go. But after a minute or two, he let go, and kissed Hermione on the cheek.
The preacher began to talk. I knew what he was saying, slightly. I'd memorized it in the rehearsals. I know I should've been listening, but my eyes were fixed on 'Mione's. Looking into her eyes, I could see an eternity of memories. Finally, it became time for us to say our vows.
"Hermione, I know I've been a git a lot. Let's face it, most of the time," I started. I could hear my Hogwarts friends and my family chuckle knowingly. "But I love you. More than life itself, I love you. Everything about you. I cannot wait to get you a home, help you raise a family, and treat you like the queen you are. My only regret is that I wish I'd realized this before 5th year. Then I wouldn't have wasted your years. Those years I have to make up. I vow to love you, cherish you, and to make you the happiest woman in the world from this day forth." I slipped the ring on her finger, then leaned over and kissed her cheek.
"Ron, I love you. Ever since I pointed out that smudge on your adorable nose," (laughter on her side and mine) "I have loved you. Our rows, our laughs. Our relationship is unique. You vow to make me the happiest woman in the world. If I am by your side, I already am the happiest woman in the world. With this ring, I vow to love you, and cherish you, and to stay by your side through thick and thin. But not necessarily obey." She winked at me and gave me that smirk of hers. Everyone laughed. Even I. I was not surpised.
Before the preacher could finish his sentence, 'You may now kiss the bride," I had kissed her.
The reception was nice. The decor was champagne colored. Hermione had arranged it all, since I am not the best person to pick out 'pretty' stuff. This was her day, and damned if I planned to ruin it. Afterwards, we headed to our honeymoon, a month in the States, a place called Tampa Bay, Florida (Hermione's choice). Many people said, that when we got back, we had a touch of Americanism that we'd never lose.
