Amnesia

Prologue
"Is she here?" asked
the black-hooded figure, standing up from where he had previously been seated.
"Yes, Master, the Mistress has arrived," the servant answered, quickly
moving to open the door.
"Send her in," the baritone voice said.
As the servant opened the large oak doors, the older woman made her entrance.
She was quite short and well into her life, with long silver hair and glimmering
black eyes. Her indigo robes made a soft swishing sound as she walked across the
large room and sat in the empty chair near the fire.
"You wished to see me?" she asked, calmly.
"Yes," the hooded figure began. "I need to know about that
wretched Mudblood girl. How is she connected? Will she cause an
interference?"
"Ah, but are you that sure of her origin?" the wise woman mused, as a
look of hidden knowledge covered her face.
"Yes," the voice answered rather firmly.
"Very well, then," she said. "The girl is very powerful; more so
than she or anyone else may know. Without her, the boy will never succeed. She
is the force that drives him to win; she is his light. However, keep in mind
that he is not hers." And with that, the wise Fate disappeared, leaving
behind a confused and angry wizard.
"Wormtail?" the wizard growled with anger.
"Yes, M-Master?" the servant asked, his voice quivering slightly.
"Kill Hermione Granger."
Chapter 1: The Only Way
"Pumpkin pie," he said, as the two statues separated, leading into the
Headmaster's office.
"Good evening, Severus," the Headmaster said, smiling at his
colleague.
"Good evening, Albus. I trust you got my letter? Regarding Miss
Granger?" the younger man asked.
"Yes, I did. Now, do you have any suggestions as to what we shall do about
this?" Dumbledore asked, looking concerned.
"I do, but we must call a teachers´ meeting first and discuss it
then," answered Snape.
"Do you think that it would be wise to alert young Mister Malfoy of
this?" asked the older man.
"Yes," Severus answered.
"Very well, but I think that the loyalty charm should be performed
first."
"Wise choice," Snape said. "Now I must retrieve our newest Head
Boy and Girl." With that, Snape made his way toward the door, stopping
suddenly when he felt the Headmaster's eyes piercing right into his soul.
Turning around slowly, he met the wise wizard's eyes.
"Severus..." Dumbledore said, his voice barely above a whisper,
"does your plan have anything to do with Arwen?"
"Albus, it is the only way to go." And with that, he left the office.

In the Great Hall, Draco Malfoy paced back and forth, impatiently, as he waited
to find out who this year's Head Girl was. Suddenly, a bright red light appeared
and left behind a startled-looking Head Girl. She was quite short, maybe
5'4" or so, with a nice figure. 'All the right curves, in all the right
places!' Draco thought, grinning. Her long honey-brown hair fell in large
glossy curls, reaching just below her shoulder blades. At that moment, the girl
turned to face Draco, matching his look of sudden shock with her own.
"Granger?!"
"Malfoy?!"
"The one and only...at Hogwarts at least." he sneered, recovering from
the shock of finding an incredibly good-looking Hermione as the new Head Girl
with whom he was to share living quarters.
"You cannot possibly be Head Boy," she stated, hoping against all odds
that this was just a mistake.
"Oh, but I can, and I am," he answered, smirking at her obvious
displeasure.
As they heard the doors of the Great Hall open and shut, the two students turned
just in time to see their Potions professor heading towards them.
"Good evening, Mister Malfoy, Miss Granger," he said stiffly,
"Welcome back, and please follow me to your new rooms. You have arrived
early because of a special project, which must be completed before the other
students arrive. Your new password is `peppermint´. Now I suggest you unpack
quickly, Mister Malfoy, as the Headmaster would like to see you in about fifteen
minutes for a short meeting. Miss Granger, your meeting shall be announced when
Mister Malfoy returns." With that, he left the two teens in their new
common room to unpack.
Hermione watched Draco disappear into his room to unpack. He had changed quite a
lot over the summer. He'd grown a lot, making him about 6'2". His body had
grown as well; it had become leaner with just enough muscle. He had finally come
to his senses and begun to wear his platinum hair in soft wisps around his eyes
and cheekbones. Even though she hated him, Hermione had to admit the boy looked
good.
Sighing softly, she grabbed her bags and headed toward the door with her name
engraved in gold. Opening the door, she found the most stunning room she had
ever seen. It was done in crimson red and gold, the Gryffindor colors. On the
far wall was a large canopy bed with crimson sheets and a gold canopy. The other
furniture consisted of a gold vanity table, a gold and crimson dresser and a
crimson couch. She unpacked quickly and made her way back to the common room for
a closer look at their living space.
Hearing the door shut, she knew Draco had gone to his meeting and she was left
to explore freely. Looking at the door opposite hers, she saw 'Draco Malfoy' engraved
in silver. Pulling her eyes away, she looked around the large, round common
room. It had a large fireplace with the Hogwarts symbol over it. In front of the
fireplace was a large black couch with two blankets on it. One was crimson and
gold and the other emerald green and silver. On one side of the fireplace was a
small library for the two of them to share. Walking over to it, she picked up a
copy of 'Hogwarts; A History'. Looking at the cover, she noticed it was
an original, just as the rest of the books on the shelves. Putting the book
down, she noticed a door between her room and Draco´s. Walking over, she
opened it, finding a large bathroom done in white. As she closed the door, she
headed toward the French doors beside the fireplace, which lead to their private
balcony.
Feeling quite exhausted, she sat down in one of the comfortable lawn chairs and
took in the beautiful scenery before her eyes. Within minutes, her eyes closed
and she fell into a soft sleep.

"Welcome back, Mister Malfoy," said the soft voice of the Headmaster.
"Do you know why you are here?"
"No sir, I do not," Draco answered, attempting to keep his tone
polite.
"Well, then, allow me to explain. Seeing as you happen to be this year's
Head Boy, we must make sure your loyalties lie with us," the Headmaster
said. "Do you understand what we must do, Mister Malfoy?"
"Yes, I do."
"And do you agree?" Dumbledore asked.
"Yes."
"Very well. Please swallow this," the Headmaster said, smiling as he
handed Draco a small vile of Veritaserum.
Taking the vile, Draco swallowed its contents quickly.
"What is your name?" the Headmaster began
"Draco Lucius Malfoy."
"Very good, now try to say `yes´ to the next question," the old
wizard said, a twinkle in his eyes. "Are you a girl?"
"Ye-NO!" Draco said, rather loudly.
"Good. Now, Draco, is your father a Death Eater?"
"Yes," Draco answered, firmly.
"I see. Do you know of the plans he and Voldemort have for Hermione?"
"No."
"Are you willing to help us protect Miss Granger?"
"Yes," Draco replied.
"Good, and one more question.
Will you become a Death Eater like your father?" the Headmaster asked.
"Never," he said, with determination in his voice.
