Chapter Two: Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw

"You ready?" asked Emma Dobbs as she, Parvati Patil stood in Ginny's dorm.

"Yeah," said Ginny. "Which dorm is first?"

"We can't tell you that yet," said Parvati, blindfolding the younger girl.

"That's comforting," said Ginny wryly. "You'd better not run me into anything, Parvati."

"I won't -- trust me!" protested Parvati.

Maria Speller rolled her eyes.

*~*~*~*

Harry couldn't believe it. Ginny, his good friend, his best friend's younger sister, was going to raid his dorm.

Of course she had been in there before, but never went through his things. This was wrong -- this was injustice -- this was personal. This was --

The luck of Harry Potter.

"So -- we're outside of the first dorm -- and this is in Hufflepuff House. . . But before I invade somebody's privacy --"

"Oh no," said Justin, "she's got a spy kit."

"How would you know?" asked Michael.

"My sister watches this show."

"-- So, now that I have my spy kit," finished Ginny. "Let's go inside."

She opened the door behind her, leading the camera inside.

"Well . . . looks like the dorms in my own House. . . Not very clean, though. Is that . . . Firewhiskey I see -- in the corner?"

Harry let out a laugh. "Justin!"

"It's not me, it's Daniel!" protested Justin.

"Well -- I didn't know Hufflepuff was a party house. . ." Ginny smiled. "Oh -- so here's your bed."

Ginny sank into the cushions of the bed, setting the silver spy kit on her lap. "Well, you're beds a little messy, but that's a given if your in the upper class at Hogwarts -- so I'll let it slide."

Justin looked relieved, indeed.

"What, Fletchley, haven't you ever had a girl in your dorm?" said Malfoy. "Come on, your seventeen --"

"No," said Justin. "Why would I?"

The blonde snorted.

"Shut it, Malfoy," Harry threatened.

"Let's go through the drawers," Ginny said, looking over her shoulder.

She had slipped on a pair of white gloves, and pulled open the drawer of the bed stand.

"Looks like some standard stuff in here," she said. "Letters from dear old Mum -- But -- what's your Hogwarts letter doing in here? And your first year letter? That's . . . well, a little bit of a turn-off. You should really throw things away -- don't keep everything."

"I never got around to throwing it all away," Justin said defensively.

"-- Right -- well, let's look at the stuff you wear between weeks of school," Ginny said.

Harry and the rest watched her walk to the end of Justin's bed and kneel down. She opened the trunk and pulled out a finely knit grey sweater. "Mm -- not bad," she said, pulling out a pair of dark jeans. "Not bad at all, I like your style."

Ginny neatly folded the clothes and replaced them in Justin's trunk. "Well, I think it's time to go to the next dorm."

She walked out with the camera, and closed the door. "Well, done with the first dorm," she said. "There's some things I liked about it, but some things I didn't. . . I liked the style you had, that was a good thing. That shows me you like to go out, and look good. I didn't like that you had your Hogwarts letters littering your drawer, you should really throw those away. I don't have mine anymore. . . And try to be a bit more interesting. Like put a poster or two upon your wall. I myself have the Canons and the Irish International Team up on mine."

"Right, I'll get on that," Justin murmured.

"One dorm down, two more to go," said Ginny.

Justin let out a relieved sigh, sinking into the plush of the cushions.

Harry felt a jolt in his stomach. What if he was next?

The film went blank, and the boys watched silently.

"D'you know how long this is going to take?" Justin wondered aloud.

Harry shrugged, loosening his tie.

"Whatever it is, it's wasting my time," Michael said, running a hand through his brown hair.

Tosser

.

"Okay, so we're at the second dorm, and it's Ravenclaw, sixth year boys," said Ginny's voice, suddenly back on film. "I might know you."

She slipped into the room. "Oh Merlin, if I thought the Hufflepuff dorm was dirty, it was nothing compared to this . . . wow."

Indeed, the beds were torn apart, clothes on the floor, bottles strewn about; parchment everywhere, scattered books, shoes -- everything.

"I didn't know Ravenclaw's were such party boys," Ginny said. "My God."

She walked to the bed that must have been Michael's, which was just as messy as the rest. "I don't even want to sit on your bed. And look, more Firewhiskey bottles . . ."

"Are those Chuck Steamer's Magical Rum bottles, as well?" Justin asked. "I heard that stuff is stronger than Firewhiskey."

"Heard right," said Harry, recalling an old experiences last Christmas. Mark Whitson, then a seventh year, had been sent some from his brother. Needless to say, things had gotten a little out of control for the group of twenty that had stayed behind for the holidays.

"-- Look at this!" said Ginny's voice, sarcastic. "I don't believe it! It's the November issue of PlayWitch magazine." She showed the camera a glossy magazine, one of which the bassist for the Weird Sisters was in a rather . . . provocative pose.

"Holy shit, Corner," said Malfoy. "How'd you get that into school?"

"I have my ways," Michael grinned, seemingly proud of himself.

"-- Okay, I think I've seen enough," Ginny said, who threw the magazine back under Michael's mattress. "Yeah, I'm not gonna touch your stuff, either. Because judging by that picture there on your bed stand, you're definitely somebody I know."

The camera zoomed in on a picture of Cho Chang, sitting prettily. She seemed to be on the train.

"Of course," Harry scowled.

"There goes my chance," said Michael, standing up. "Can I go now?"

Colin pushed him back toward the couch. "No. You just have to sit and wait it out, Michael."

"Come on!" Michael said. "She's seen the picture -- she obviously knows its me, and I'm not gonna get chosen --"

"You go out, and we'll be in trouble," Dennis squeaked.

"Come on!"

"Rules are rules," said Colin, who had puffed out his chest. He seemed to have gained a bit of confidence nowadays. Or maybe it was just that fact that he was a good friend with Ginny, Harry thought.

"Just sit down," Harry said. "You can wait it out like the rest of us."

"Okay -- so there were only things I didn't like about that room," said Ginny's voice. "You're my ex-boyfriend, so . . . that's that."

"Two more dorms and you guys are out of here," Colin said. "Just wait."

Author notes: Yes, I know it's taken me a really long time to update, but I have had the worst writer's block between this and Kiss Me Fool, so bear with me. I went an emergency cram, and I watched about 50 episodes of Room Raider's before I finally got something.
