Chapter One
It's the first day of school. As usual I was absolutely excited. Except for one thing. Of course I'm happy for Harry and Hermione, being together for two years, today. But don't I deserve a little happiness? From day one I have held a special place in my heart for Harry. His presence is just so electric. It's even worse that he's just about the sweetest guy at Hogwarts. I mean, it would be easier to get rid of my feelings for him if he were a jerk. But I doubt I will ever feel differently about him. And it's torture seeing those two be all lovey-eyed to each other. I hope I can stand one more year of it. Then they will graduate. It will be very bittersweet. I wish my brother, and my friend Hermione, and also the object of my affection could be near me for longer, but the hurt might dull after a while.
Anyway, here we were platform nine-and-three-quarters. Harry had spent the summer with us, after the dark lord's downfall at Hogwarts. It was a castle invasion. There was nothing anyone could do to stop it. Harry had brought an end to You-know-who, and his followers fled, permanently. He doesn't like to talk about it much. I gazed at him checking on Hedwig. He had gotten so tan. He was rather muscular now too, and had grown about four inches over the summer. His nose was lightly freckled. He looked so handsome....
I felt a hand on my arm, which snapped me out of my musings.
"Come on Gin. You can daydream on the train," said Ron, pulling me toward the tracks, where my parents were putting our trunks on the cargo load. Ron and I hugged mum as she sniffled.
"I can't believe you two. Growing up so fast. And Harry and Hermione, Head Boy and Girl!" They grinned at each other. "And my two little prefects. Ron, remember, make your last year at Hogwarts your best. And Ginny, have fun. Oh my babies!" she sobbed.
"Mum, it's ok. We'll be fine. I love you, bye," I said as we pulled away. As soon as the trunks were loaded, we climbed aboard. The four of us quickly found an empty compartment on the train, and we leaned out the window. We shouted goodbye to the Weasley family as the engine started chugging.
"Goodbye my babies!" mum shouted.
I rolled my eyes, but grinned in spite of myself.
We waved until the platform was out of sight. As soon as we were settled down, the lunch trolley arrived. Harry, of course, bought about twenty chocolate frogs, among many other sweets. And of course, being incredibly sweet himself, he passed them around until everyone had a nice pile beside them.
"So," Hermione began, "does anyone have any goals for this year? I am aiming to get at least a one hundred and twenty percent on all of my N.E.W.T.s. Do you think that's aiming too low?" She looked over at Harry who shook his head.
"Well, my goal is just to pass Potions," grumbled Harry.
"Me too," Ron stuffed a chocolate frog in his mouth. "I mean, Shnapes jusht sho evil."
"Ron! Chew, swallow, then speak," I chastised him.
He swallowed and repeated, "He's just so evil. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to poison every student this year. Well except the Slytherins. I bet Neville is dreading Potions more than us."
We all agreed laughing, and went back to our sweets.
"So Ginny, what's your goal for this year?" Hermione asked her, popping an Every Flavor Bean in her mouth.
I sat thinking for a minute. I finally came up with the right answer and said, "To make a miracle happen," I said. I looked at Harry and smiled. He smiled back.
