Author's Note:
Haha, I'm back again yet with another ficlet, the prequel to 'Don't Let Hermione Cry'. I am probably going to make a sequel to this prequel, to show how Hermione realizes her feelings for Draco. I hope you will enjoy this fic!

For You

I'm a vision, I'm justice

Never thought that I could love,
Living in shadows, faded existence,
It was never good enough.

"Why do you keep following us?"

Hermione Granger's voice kept ringing in his head. He put a hand on his forehead, the passive expression on his face reflected on the tainted window. Why do I keep following them? He wondered vaguely. "Why? Why?" Draco Malfoy exclaimed out loud. His brain was fogged by mixed thoughts. He did not know the answer to that question.

He suddenly remembered those dark, cold brown eyes and the hostile voice she always used when she was talking to him He had no idea how he had fallen for her. Hermione. Her name rang in his mind several times, keeping the memory of her attached firmly in his mind. He closed his eyes momentarily.

Draco was merely a shadow of 'evil' to her. He was merely a faded existence, a person who was most likely to disappear. "You're nothing, nothing at all, Draco. You just have to follow me," the sinister voice of his father, Lucius Malfoy, echoed in his head. Yes, he was nothing. Nothing. But Draco wasn't going to sit down and wonder what was going to happen. He had other plans of his own.

Within the darkness, you were the light,
That shines away...
You're trapped in violence,

I can be the man...
Who saves the day.

He had no wishes or dreams to be a hero, nor the main character in the story, but he wanted to to protect Hermione. Draco knew he was weak, and was not important in her life, but he wanted to help her. He remembered during his Fourth Year at the Quidditch Cup... He had told her and her friends to run off because his father and other Death Eaters were heading towards them. Draco knew that something was going to happen to Hermione if the Death Eaters found her.

He smiled slightly, placing a hand on his cheek. In his Third Year at Hogwarts, Hermione had slapped him--hard--because he was insulting Hagrid. Ever since that day, he could not take his eyes off her. Maybe... just maybe... he could save the day just for her.

~ ~ ~ ~

Someone has changed me, something saved me,
Now this is who I am,
Although I was blinded, my heart let me find that
Truth makes a better man,
I didn't notice that you were right in front of me,
A mask of silence, we'll put away so we can see,

"Ron, get off me!"

Draco turned sharply into a corner when he heard that helpless voice. He knew it was Hermione--but what was she doing in the middle of the night? Was she with Ron Weasley? He looked up to find Ron trying desperately to kiss Hermione, but she kept pushing him away. "This is not right," she said in a breathless, muffled voice.

"But I really want you, Hermione..."

Draco clenched his fists and went up to them. He grabbed Ron by the collar and flung him against the wall. "What're you trying to do, Weasel?" he asked, the tone of his voice dangerous and venomous. Ron stared at him, dumbfounded.

"This is none of your business, Malfoy. Go away," said Ron angrily, trying to regain composure, but Draco knew he didn't have the power to do that. No one could act cool, calm and collected in front of Draco Malfoy--except for Hermione, maybe.

"Sod off, Weasel," he said warningly.

Ron whimpered slightly and hurried away. That coward, he thought, resisting the urge to growl. Draco turned to Hermione, who was gazing at him, wide-eyed. He moved closer to her, so close that he could even hear her fast breathing. He resisted the urge to kiss her right there and then.

"Don't ever interfere with my life again, Malfoy," she said, without much emotion in her voice.

"Did you really like that idiot pining over you, Granger?" he asked slowly and smoothly, making sure that his voice did not waver.

Hermione looked away, trying not to meet his gaze. "I always knew you were ignorant,"

He backed away from her, looking straight into her eyes. "Then you don't know me," said Draco finally, and without another word, he walked off.

He made his way to an empty classroom, and shut the door behind him, locking it. Sighing frustratingly, he kicked one of the desks. Why must she do this to me? Draco thought thought. Why must she continue tormenting me? His heart was hot with anger, but for some reason, tranquility began to take over his burning fury.

Of course she'll never stop hating me... I'm a Slytherin, I'm a Malfoy, and I'm a fool. I'm everything bad. He clenched his fists determinedly. But I'll never stop protecting her. No matter what.

I'm there for you,
No matter what,
I'm there for you,
Never giving up,
I'm there for you,
For you...
