Slytherin Forever! - Love's Sacrifice
Chapter One: The Meeting
~*~
"I suppose that the problems began when Salazar hauled his twin sons to Hogwarts. As a result of a night five years ago with his sister the boys were considered illegitimate and therefore they were never acknowledged as true Heirs. Salazar never loved his sons as much as he loved his daughter Taigan, who was born nine years after the twins, and always ignored them, to the great amusement of his wife.
Enough about this now, for these problems occur in the best of families, and let's move on to the special day on which Taigan finally met her brothers. She was nine years old at the time and had never seen the boys before, for she stayed in the castle and they lived in the cabin of the gamekeeper that was, at the time, not in real use. The young Taigan met Jored, the eldest, at the foot of the lake."
"Are you back already? How did father react to the news?"
Taigan Slytherin looked at the boy who had spoken with large and innocent green eyes. He stood with his back towards her and did not see that, whoever it was whom he expected to be standing behind him, she was the only person present.
"You know," she said softly, "I do not know who you are talking to but I know one thing: he or she is not present here."
The boy whirled around as she spoke and looked at her in surprise. She felt uncomfortable as he continued to stare at her quite rudely. His eyes --Slytherin eyes, Taigan thought for a minute - regarded her coolly, making her feel more aware of her childish clothes and the filthy teddy bear in her arms than ever before. He chuckled suddenly, a low and deep sound that seemed to come right out of his heart.
"Well, I will be damned," he grinned and bowed down to the ground. "Slytherin's daughter herself has come to see what Jored and Josselin are up to."
"Where is the other person then?"
"He is telling father something you do not have to trouble yourself with yet," the boy sighed. "I, in case you had not realized it, am called Jored."
"I am Taigan," she replied with a smile. "Where is your father then?"
"Somewhere in the castle," Jored replied vaguely. "Josselin went to find him and..."
He stopped in mid-sentence and his eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at something behind Taigan. She turned around and glanced at the boy who was walking towards them.
He looked exactly like Jored.
She turned back to Jored with a frown on her face, making him laugh heartily.
"Joss!" he shouted. "Get your ass up here! We have got an important guest today!"
"I am not that important," Taigan frowned.
"Yes you are," Jored said to her after a moment. "You just did not know that."
When the boy called Josselin - or 'Joss' as Jored had called him - finally stood in front of Taigan she noticed that, apart from him looking every bit like Jored, he also had the same accent when he spoke.
"So this is the famous daughter of Slytherin," he said, more to himself than to anyone else. "This is your first day on the grounds, is it not?"
It was a funny accent too, Taigan mused as she looked back at him. Some words, like 'daughter', were short and ended on a longish 'ah' instead of the usual 'soft r' Taigan pronounced. Others, like 'grounds' and 'your', had more of an Irish influence than anything else.
"I have never been on the grounds before alone," Taigan replied. "My father has taken me to the greenhouses since I turned five."
"The greenhouses?" Jored asked with a grin. "I think that he has neglected the very important task of showing you the lake and the Forbidden Forest then."
"I cannot swim," Taigan pouted, "so what good will the lake be to me? And I am not allowed to go anywhere near the Forbidden Forest because it is too dangerous."
"She has got a good point," Josselin said to Jored. "We are eighteen and old enough to look after ourselves, but she is nine years old and still needs protection."
"Talent usually skips a generation," Jored replied, "so it is fair to say that she is powerful enough."
"Are you insulting my father?" Taigan asked with mounting disbelief. "And what do you mean with being powerful enough? Powerful enough for what?"
The twins shared a look.
"Not as stupid as she looks, right?" a grinning Josselin asked a stunned Jored.
"No, indeed," Jored sighed. Then he turned back to Taigan and said: "You, my dear young friend, are the most powerful witch Hogwarts has ever seen. Your father has let the Vayaen into the castle and tragically lost his mind afterwards. You are the true Heir of everything he owns and will carry on with the things he should have done but failed to do."
"I think that you scared her now," Josselin remarked dryly as Taigan continued to look at them both in disbelief. "Besides, she does not know anything about the Vayaen yet."
"I do!" Taigan shouted indignantly. "If I know about anything, I know about them!"
Jored and Josselin stared at each other. Then, slowly and carefully, Jored whispered:
"What do you know about them?"
Taigan found herself being ushered under the trees and into the grass by the boys as she started to reply. Josselin looked around to see if anyone had decided to take a stroll around the lake, which was not the case, before he turned back to Taigan.
"I know that father met Damien, the leader, on one of his journeys. They promised him good fortune if he would take them here and father really needed their help for they knew loads of spells that were not familiar to anyone."
"Do you know what kind of spells those were?" Jored asked. "Did your father ever talk about them to you?"
"No, he never talked about the things he did while he was in their company," Taigan said after a moment of consideration. "He said that the Vayaen would help us to fame and that if he joined them he would one day become the greatest wizard of all time."
"Is there anything else that you remember?"
"Damien is always very friendly to me but never to Jessica. She does not trust him at all, or so she told me when he had left the room, and thinks that father should know better than to trust somebody like him."
"Who is Jessica?"
"You must have seen her around sometime," Taigan laughed. "She is Godric's daughter. She is a very beautiful girl, with long dark hair and very big brown eyes."
"We are not allowed to go inside without permission," Jored sighed. "If anything, we are only allowed to enter when everyone else is fast asleep."
"Why is that?"
"We shall tell you sometime," Josselin replied, "when you are old enough."
"With that promise the twins and Taigan sealed their friendship. Soon they were never seen without each other when they were out on the grounds, though the twins never entered the castle unless Salazar permitted it.
It is said among many people that Salazar did not approve of her daughter's friends but that he tolerated them. I, however, know that he treated his daughter with less respect than before and always tried to prevent her from getting out of the castle as much as he could. He might seem like an unfriendly father but I believe that he only wanted what was best for his children.
Taigan's friendship with Jessica Gryffindor is legendary. So therefore it is only right for me to explain the exact bond between them and how it came to be, as well as their connections to the twins later on..."
