Author's Note:
my hobbies are: Sailing, swimming and I’m DJ on schoolparty. Karlien looks a lot like me, except that I’m not a girls nor I can do magic. ICQ= 98721359 and the story is also available on my own site:

The fitted carpets had been clean, and turned out to have a much lighter colour then Harry knew it. It had changed colour in the years, because of all the dust.

The walls had been painted, back to white, instead of grey.

The golden frames from the portraits were sparkling and the people in it looked really happy with it.

"Those elves have been working their butts off!" Ron said, which caused Hermione to look displeased.

"What shall we do? It is almost eleven o’clock, everybody will be going to bed soon. But I’m not tired at all." Harry said.

"Let’s go to the Marauders room!’ Ron said excited.

When everybody was in their dorms, Ron beat Gryffindor on the right spot, and they could enter the room in front of the marauders room.

"I’ve been wondering why this room was build, and who build it." Harry asked, while he was looking for the right brick.

"Maybe I can see something in my Animagus shape." Ron said.

"That’s no use, my father and Sirius spend years trying to find some meaning of this little room, but they found nothing, and decided to build the Marauders room." Harry said.

But Ron had already been changed into a giant spider.

"If only you could see yourself right now, you’ll be so scared that you’ll faint." Hermione said teasingly.

"I’m getting used to spiders now," Ron said, "because I’m one some of the time."

"Yeah, sure." Harry said.

"He guys," Ron said, on a I-want-to-change-the-subject tone, "I can see something behind that wall!"

"Which wall?" Harry asked.

"The wall behind you," Ron said, "I’ll open it, there is a hidden doorknob."

He opened the wall, and there was a single shelve behind it, with the largest book Hermione had ever seen, on it.

She grabbed it, and looked on the cover.

It was full of dust, so she had to blow it off. It was no use, because there appeared to be nothing on it.

Before she could even think, she opened it.

"Herm! What are you doing??? That book might have been cursed!" Ron said.

"Sorry, I’ve left my mind in the common room." She said, and she agreed Ron that she had been stupid.

"I can’t read any of this, it looks like something you see when you strongly need glasses. Harry can I borrow your glasses?" Hermione said.

"Of course." He said, and handed her the glasses, instantly he saw nothing but hazy things.

She turned on his glasses, but the inside of the book still made no sense.

"Can I have my glasses and the book?" Harry asked.

Hermione gave it to him, and when he saw good again, he had a look on the first page of the book.

"It looks like old runes to me." Harry said.

"What do you mean? That aren’t old runes, even you should know that!" Hermione said, on a angry tone, "It’s just hazy bits of ink."

"No it isn’t, I swear, give me a piece of parchment, and a quill, I’ll draw them if you don’t believe me."

Hermione didn’t see the use of it, but she did as he had requested, and gave him the parchment and the quill.

He copied the characters on the parchment. After a while, he was sure they were exactly the same, and he gave the parchment to Hermione.

"Is that what you see?" Hermione asked, because to her, the book and Harry’s version were totally different.
"Yes, that exactly what I see." Harry answered.

"Well, you’re right, they do look like old runes, but nothing like I’ve learned so far. It could be one of those many old runes, we cann’t decipher. I do have a theory about why you can see them, and we can’t. You’re a Parselmouth."

"That’s a good theory," Harry agreed, "It does makes sense, why can’t Parselmouth be a written language as well? I’ve got an idea to decipher it, it’s really easy."

"Yeah? How?" Ron asked.

"The repaphturt." Harry said.

"What? You have a repaphturt?" Hermione said excited.

"Ron gave it to me as a birthday present," Harry said, "Let’s go now, and find out what it says.

Back in their own dorm, which had not been cleaned, Harry opened his trunk, where he kept his presents, and soon he found what he had been looking for, the repaphturt.

He copied the runes once again, on the repaphturt, and slowly the runes began to change into normal English.

It said:

‘My life’, by Salazar Slytherin.

They gasped, and after a while, Ron said:

"I this some sort of a diary? Slytherin’s Diary?"

"I don’t know, but we’re going to find out soon." Harry said.

"Harry, are you crazy? Remember Riddle’s diary?" Hermione said.

"I do, but we’re not going to write in it, are we? And Riddle’s diary was empty, this one isn’t."

Harry copied the first row of the second page of the book.

Table of contents.

Harry started to copy more.

"We have to give this to Dumbledore." Hermione said.

"No, of course we don’t!" Harry said, "He’ll probably take it from me. And by the way, he can’t read it because he’s no Parselmouth, it’ll be useless for him."

"He’s right." Karlien and Ron said.

"Let’s go to bed now," Harry said, "Tomorrow we’ll have a look at the book."

Once they were in bed, Harry had created the privacy screen, and made the roof invisible, so they could look through it.

They were looking at the stars.

"Let’s have a wild night." Harry said.

"No, not tonight, next week." Karlien answered.

"Why?" Harry asked a little disappointed.

"Because of my monthly problem." She said.

"Remus has his monthly problem too." Harry answered.

"What do you mean, he’s no female, remember?" Karlien said.

"Your absolutely right, but it is full moon, the poor guy." Harry said, while he looked up to the moon and stars.

They were having breakfast that morning, Snape wasn’t there, and suddenly Dumbledore stood up, to make an announcement. He looked serious, and Harry knew that whatever was coming, it couldn’t be good news.

"Can I please have you attention?" Dumbledore asked. Everybody was silent immediately.

"Azkaban, the wizard prison, is attacked by Lord Voldemort and his followers. The prisoners have been freed and the guards, the Dementors, joined Lord Voldemort. Voldemort has his most faithful servants back now, that means no good." He was silent for a moment, and looked at the students, until he saw Harry, and Dumbledore stared at him for a moment, he continued, "Dementors have a very powerful weapon, and we think, Voldemort has allowed them to use the weapon on everybody. Dementors can’t be killed, except when they are to old, or when another Dementor destroys it.

As a safety precaution, we’ve decided, that all students from the fourth year and higher, will spent the following DADA lessons, learning how to fight a Dementor. Professor Lupin has agreed with it, he not very good in fighting Dementors, but he succeeded before, when he learned a student to fight Dementors," Dumbledore looked at Harry, and had a smile on his face, "He will be assisted by a new, temporary, professor, professor Figg, she’s specialised in fighting dark creatures. All the students who can fight a Dementor, will protect people who can’t. Because if we don’t help each other, we will never win the war against the Dark Arts."

Everybody started to talk to their neighbours when Dumbledore had finished and sat down.

"That’s why we saw that Figg women on the Marauders map." Ron said.

"Of course not, that was before Azkaban was opened." Hermione said.

"Dumbledore and professor Figg must know each other, I heard him talk about her last summer, when I just returned from the third task, but I didn’t realise he was talking about the same Figg." Harry said.

"What do you thing, the Dementors are going to do next? Kiss everybody on their path?" Ron asked.

"I don’t think so, I think Voldemort has a plan, and I don’t think he will just let everybody get killed. He’ll do it step by step. Just killing everybody is no use. There’s no ruling the world, if there’re no people to rule." Harry said.

"I think Harry could be right," Hermione said, "but that doesn’t mean we’ll have to be less careful."

"Of course not!" Harry said.

Then, as every morning, the owl entered the room, to deliver letters to students. There was no mail for Harry and his friends. But then, when all the owl were gone, new owls entered the Great Hall. But it weren’t normal owls, it were black owls.

"This can’t be good." Ron and Karlien said.

"Why not?" Harry and Hermione said.

"I can see you’ve grown up in muggle families," Ron said, "Black owls are only used when someone has died, these are a lot of black owls, that means a lot of people have died."

The owls delivered their letters, and happily, non of Harry’s friends got one, except Dumbledore. He opened the letter, and he was shocked, professor McGonagall did the same, when she had read the letter, which Dumbledore had given her. She told all the teachers, and all of them took off their hats, and starred down at the table. Everybody was looking at them. Some of the students, the one that got black owls, were crying silently.

Dumbledore stood up again.

"I would like to say sorry to all of those, who lost family or friends, and I also have to tell you, that all potion lessons will be cancelled, because professor Severus Tom Snape had been murdered. Today’s other lessons will be cancelled, and maybe, there will follow more cancelled days. Me and all the other teachers, will have to find a new potion teacher, and decide, who will be the new Head of Slytherin. You can now go back to your common rooms."

Everybody was talking to each other, when they walked back to the common rooms. They were talking excitedly, but not happily. Most of them were worried, that Voldemort would get their family. Even the Slytherins we’re unhappy, but Harry thought that wasn’t because of all the family and friends of other student, had died. But because of Snape.

Harry even felt sorry for Snape, which he had never done before. He was mean, but not evil. Maybe he was once, but not anymore.

He wondered what would have happened to Karkarov, and he figured he would be dead too.

How could Voldemort have got to Snape? Harry asked himself.

He should have been safe here in Hogwarts. Maybe he was out, buying more potion stuff.

"What would happen to Remus, now that Snape has gone. He told me only few wizards can brew the Wolfsbane potion. Will he find another one? Or will Sirius perform the spells, they have learned us, to defend against werewolves.?" Harry asked.

"I think Sirius will perform the spells." Karlien said.

"I’ve got a great idea!" Hermione said, "maybe there’s something to cure werewolf in Slytherin’s book!"

"You’re right, lets go have a look at it!" Ron said.

And they went on to their privet dorm.

It took Harry a lot of time to translate the index of the Dark Creatures part of the book. Some of the creatures were familiar for them, but some weren’t.

Veelas, Vampires, werewolves, Dementors, Shapers, Cruciors, Mummies, Undead Skeletons, Pheunix (no Phoenix) and lots of other creatures they had never heard of before.

"I wish there was a faster way to do this." Harry complained.

"Yeah, it will take days to translate one chapter!" Ron said.

"We mustn’t give up, Harry. I personally think we should translate all the indexes first, and than translate chapters in order of which we need first. So first werewolves, than Dementors etc. etc."

"Yeah, maybe there’s some way in it for us to learn Parselmouth!" Karlien said excitedly.

"I don’t think so, but you never know, Slytherin was the smartest (and evilest) wizard ever known, You-know-who and Dumbledore are a dumb, dyslexic, illiterate idiots compared to him." Hermione said in a tone Harry had never suspected from her when she talked about Dumbledore.

That week, Harry and Hermione spend most of the time translating indexes. Harry copied the things from the book, and Hermione translated them in normal English. They had other things on their minds as well. So Harry trusted Ron and Karlien to develop tactics to play against Hufflepuf the next Quidditch match.

Besides that, the still found time to do their normal homework and to study for O.W.L.s.

When they were finished translating the indexes, Hermione made a list of chapters to translate next. Werewolves first, after that Dementors "We can say we invented a way of killing Dementors ourselves, and sell it to the ministry!" She said. After Dementors came Avada Kedavra.

"What would you want to know about the Killing Curse? You aren’t allowed to perform it anyway!" Harry asked her.

"Maybe there’s something in it which will explain your survival of it."

"What is that after Avada Kedavra? Crudavra?"

"I don’t know for sure, but it sounded interesting, I thought it might be a mixture of Cruciatus and Avada Kedavra. Interesting thing you can try if you ever meet You-know-who again."

"Yeah, I would love that, just give him another nice sounding weapon!" Harry said irritated.

"No you idiot, if it is was I think it is, he won’t be able to use it, because he will be dead by than." She replied.

"If it is what I think it is, it won’t be pleasant, the perfect thing to try on my most beloved ‘Voldie’" Harry laughed.
