Chapter One:

He woke up with a start. Harry Potter was standing over his bedside.

"Still having those dreams, Ron?" he asked.

"Yeah..." Ron was slightly awake now and saw that Harry's robes were torn. "What happened to you?"

"Oh..these?" Harry hesitated.

"Yeah."

"They, um...I got in a fight."

"Really? With who?"

"Seamus," muttered Harry in barely a whisper.

"Again?" Ron wasn't as astonished as he tried to be. Seamus had been picking fights with Harry for weeks.

"Yeah. This time I apparently looked at him funny."

Ron winced. He just had a memory of what his dream was.

A nine - legged spider was chasing Ron up and down the halls of the fifth floor. He ran into a room full of mirrors and hid behind one. The spider burst in and was coming closer and closer and-

He woke up again. Harry was standing there just like the day before, but with new untorn robes on.

"Breakfast, Ron."

Ron started to get groggily out of bed. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."

Harry and Ron met Hermione at the Great Hall.

"Took you a while," she said, "I left early."

"Yeah, sorry. Long night." Ron could still vaguely remember the recurring nightmare.

"I bet it was," said a cold voice from behind Hermione. It was Seamus.

"Hi, Hermione!" he added delightfully.

"Oh, hi!" she said excitedly. It was the first day of October and Seamus went for a family vacation for the majority of September.

Hermione stood up and hugged him. "I missed you!" she said with a big smile.

"I missed you too." Seamus returned the hug.

Harry tried to smile at Seamus, but it was difficult as Seamus was giving Harry a look that strongly resembled the look of death. Seamus let go of Hermione and sat down beside her.

"What class do you have now, Seamus?"

"Oh, um..." he looked quite bored at the question and took out his timetable." I have History of Magic. What about you?" he tried to sound interested.

She looked a bit disappointed at not being with Seamus for the first class of his return but forced a little smile anyway." Charms. Can I see your timetable?"

Seamus slowly handed it to her and she grabbed it from him in an instant. Her smile faded when she read down the page. "What? We don't have anything together."

"I guess you'll just have to wait even longer to see me then. Aw, I'll miss you, honey. But we'll still see each other all the time. It's not like we're in separate houses or anything." Seamus gave Ron an evil look as he spoke to Hermione.

Ron exchanged glances with Harry.

"Well, I've got to go to class. Bye, sweety."

"Bye!" Hermione said cheerfully. After Seamus left she added, "Isn't he wonderful? He's the nicest guy, don't you think?"

"Oh, yeah," said Harry. "The nicest."

Hermione skipped off to class as happy as a bird.

"I don't know how much more of this I can handle, Harry," sighed Ron.

"Me neither." They both looked exhausted.

There was a time when Harry and Ron were both in love with Hermione. They never told anyone, not even each other. Seamus knew of course, and that is why he treated them so badly.

At the end of the day when everyone was in the common room, Harry and Ron were busy trying to try to do their homework. They were failing miserably.

"OK! This is me not standing it any longer!" Ron stood up, knocking over all his parchment in the process, and walked right up to Seamus.

"We need to talk!" he yelled. He looked like a ten year old picking a fight with his older brother. Seamus just stood there and took whatever Ron would throw at him. He didn't care.

"NOW!" Ron yelled and led Seamus into the far corner.

"Look," Ron started, "if you're gonna be with Hermione, you have to accept us as her friends."

"You're not her friends."

"What?" Ron didn't understand. What were they, then?

"You know what you wanted or most likely still want from her. You'll never get it so just stop pretending to be her friend."

"You can't make me do anything!" Ron defied him.

"Watch me." Seamus left and sat on the couch with Hermione again.

"Attention, everyone!" Everyone who was in the Hall fell silent at once and listened to Dumbledore attentively. "I will now announce the new prefects for this year and I apologize for being slightly late. Vincent Crabbe and Pansy Parkinson for Slytherin." Most of the Slytherins clapped until Malfoy threatened them. "Cho Chang and Michael Corner for Ravenclaw." All of the Ravenclaws clapped, along with some Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors. Harry blushed as he thought of Cho. "Hannah Abbott and Ernie MacMillan for Hufflepuff." The majority of the students in the Hall clapped as nearly everyone liked Hannah and Ernie. "And finally--" Time stood still for just a moment. Harry thought that may be he could be a prefect. Sure, he'd gotten into trouble and wasn't the best in his classes, but Dumbledore liked him. Maybe he put in a good word for him? "Hermione Granger and Seamus Finnigan."

Harry must have misheard Dumbledore, he must be going crazy. However, Ron assured him that Harry heard correctly. That, or everyone in the Hall was going crazy as well.

After the ceremony, Professor McGonagall approached Harry and informed him that he was chosen to be the Quidditch Captain. Finally something good happened to him!

Since that the Quidditch season was stalled for the Triwizard Tournament the previous year, only Katie Bell and Harry Potter were left on the Quidditch team. Angelina moved to France and Fred and George were too busy with their "experiments" to play.

Harry put up a notice in Gryffindor Tower that Quidditch tryouts will be held on the eleventh and twelfth of October.

Harry showed up at the Quidditch change room alone. One by one, people started showing up. Katie Bell, Ginny Weasley, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, the Creevey brothers, Neville Longbottom, Parvati Patil, Lavender Brown, and Seamus Finnigan.

Seamus! Oh no! thought Harry. This will be disastrous!

Once everyone was ready, they went out into the pitch. Harry gathered everyone around him. "We'll start off with trying to shoot the Quaffle through the hoops. I will play Keeper. Even if you don't want to be Chaser, I need to see who would be appropriate for each position. I know that you'll have fun either way," explained Harry.

Harry noticed how Hermione was so natural at flying. She should have started playing before. Harry must have thought too long about this, because she shot through the very hoop he was supposed to be guarding, no problem.

"Next we will test out your Beater abilities."

Ron was okay at this, but as he was Harry's best friend Harry could have been trying to see the best in him.

"Now Katie and I will play Chaser while you all take turn in Keeper position. "

Everyone did fairly well with a few exceptional talented at being Keeper.

After the tryout, Harry knew who would be on the team instantly. He wrote the team's members on a piece of parchment and posted it in Gryffindor Tower next to Fred and George's advertisements for an assistant. The next day it was revealed to the rest of Gryffindor:

Chasers - Katie Bell

  • Hermione Granger

  • Lavender Brown

Beaters - Ginny Weasley

- Seamus Finnigan

Keeper - Neville Longbottom

Seeker - Harry Potter

After Ron made his way out of the crowd of people staring at the list and found Harry, he looked upset. "What?" screamed Ron. "Harry! How could you?"

"How could I what?"

"Not put me on the team!"

"Oh. That. I'm sorry, Ron. I had to pick the right people."

"Oh, I'm sure. Seamus is just the right person, then."

"Yeah. I mean No! NO! Sorry, Ron..." Harry tried to apologize but Ron just walked away.

"Yeah, whatever," he trailed off as he slumped up the stairs.
