Cry

Jakia

I'll Always Remember,

It was late afternoon,

It lasted forever,

And it ended so soon,

Lily Marie Evans truly hated James Randall Potter.

In fact, hate probably wasn't a strong enough word to describe what she felt about Mr. I'm-So-Cool-So-Let's-Pick-On-Some-First-Years-For-Fun. Everything about him was unappealing to Lily. She hated his black, ruffled hair. She hated his thin, square, golden-framed glasses that sat peacefully around his hazel eyes, which naturally, she also disliked. She hated his demonic Quidditch skills, which seemed to gain him extra popularity. She also hated his friends, Mr. God's-Gift-To-Women-Or-So-He-Thinks, Mr. Prefect-Should-Have-More-Sense-Than-He-Does, and Mr. Pipsqueak-Needs-To-Grow-A-Brain-Of-His-Own, also known as Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.

And the worst part about him?

He liked her.

Almost daily, Lily could expect James Potter to walk up to her, sit down next, grin sheepishly, and ask her quietly if she would go out with him. Every day she would turn, look at him and the pitiful look on his face, almost feel sorry for him, yet not quite, and turn him down by any means possible. Sometimes her responses were sensible--a quiet, "No James, I will not go out with you," and other times it was, "I'd go out with the Giant Squid before I would date you!" It seemed the day just would not end unless James Potter asked her out.

She sighed quietly, walking gently into the Astronomy Tower to do her homework, which, coincidentally, had also happened due to James. He had set off a dungbomb during class, so the Professor had given them extra homework, unfortunately. There was a small, private part of Tower in which very few people knew about, and Lily often did her homework there, so that other students would not disturb her.

She didn't, however, expect someone else to be there.

You were all by yourself,

Staring up at a dark grey sky,

I was changed,

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the infamous James Potter, ringleader of the naturally infamous Marauders. What are you doing here?" James jumped up rather quickly at the sound of Lily's voice, dropping a few pieces of parchment.

"Lily! I wasn't . . . I was just . . . " he said, suddenly becoming very interested in his Astronomy textbook. Lily stared at him. If she hadn't known any better, she could have sworn she saw James crying . . .

Crying?

But James Potter didn't cry! He was too heartless and selfish to cry! Besides, what in the world would he cry about? He had absolutely everything he could possibly want.

Lily sighed. She knew she was going to regret this. She just knew it. But she couldn't just leave him there, crying over God-knows what . . .

In places no one would find,

All your feeling so deep inside,

It was then that I realized,

That forever was in your eyes,

"James, What's wrong?" she asked, bending down. She picked up a few pieces of parchment that had been lying there beside him, eyeing one in particular. She began reading it, not noticing the panic-struck face James had.

The moment I saw you cry

It was a letter, from the Ministry of Magic. James' parents had . . . had . . .

"Died. Go on, read it! Read all the damn sympathy letters as well! And make fun of me, while you're at it! 'James Potter's up in the Astronomy Tower crying over his dead parents!' Go on, laugh!" he said harshly, throwing his arms up in the air. Lily's face fell. She hadn't been expecting this.

"James...oh God, I'm sorry..."

"Don't give me your damn sympathy!" he yelled, turning his back to her. His arms were folded, and he tried his best to hide to his the tears that were streaming down his face. Everything in her gut told her to turn around and walk away, to head back to Gryffindor Tower, to forget she ever saw him there. Instead, she turned back to him, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here." she said, turning around to leave.

She was really, really going to regret this...

It was late in September,

And I'd seen you before,

You were always the cool one,

But I was never that sure,

She had just gotten to the door when he spoke to her.

"Funny, isn't it? Mum had just written to me yesterday, telling me once more how proud she and Father were of me being Head Boy. That was her life long dream for me, you know. She just wanted me to be Head Boy...she didn't care how many pranks I pulled, or how much trouble I got in, just as long as I was Head Boy...Head..." He wiped his eyes softly. She smiled at him.

"Do you want me to stay with you?" Again, there was silence.

"You could. Or you could leave. You could make fun of me, laugh at me for crying like a silly little girl, but it wouldn't make any difference. They're still dead, and they will always be...dead." he said, tears now rolling down his face freely.

You were all by yourself,

Staring up at a dark grey sky,

And I was changed.

Slowly she wrapped her arms around him, allowing him to cry on her shoulder. She ran her hand through his messy black hair, stroking his back softly.

I wanted to hold you,

I wanted to make it go away,

James Potter wasn't so bad. Sure, he'ddone some things wrong in the past, but who hadn't? He wasn't so ugly either, now that she thought about. In fact, (She was really going to regret thinking this) he was positively sexy.

I wanted to make your everything...Alright.

And maybe, tomorrow, just maybe, she would say yes when he asked her out.

And maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't regret it.
