Chapter one
"I wonder if Ron and Hermione are going to send me birthday presents again this year," fourteen year old Harry Potter muttered. Just as he said that it turned midnight, and six owls flew in through his window. He glanced at his clock and thought "I haven't been able to catch my birthday to the second since I turned eleven."
Harry smiled as all six owls landed on his bed. He took all of the packages and letters and made a pile at the end of his bed. One of the owls flew back out the window as soon as he took the letter. He smiled, and saw that he had gotten a letter from the following: Ginny & Ron, Hermione, Sirius, Hagrid, his Hogwarts letter, and Professor Dumbledore.
He opened Ron and Ginny's letter first. It read:
Harry,
Happy birthday.
Dumbledore still says that you have to stay with the Muggles for the entire summer.
Hermione is coming to visit tomorrow for the rest of the summer.
Well, got to go.
Don't let the Muggles get you down.
Your friends,
Ron and Ginny
Harry smiled and grabbed the gift. There was the usual birthday cake along with a book that was decorated with a picture each of Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, and Ginny. He opened it and out fell a piece of parchment. It read:
Harry,
This is called a Book Messanger.
The pictures on the cover tell you who has a book linked to yours. All the books that are linked to yours are linked together as well. There are more that can be linked to yours, but we'll give those to you later. You just write the name or names on the page and their book glows. Nobody but that person or those people can read what is being said. It is a bit like Tom Riddle's diary, but it isn't.
Ginny.
Harry smiled and thought "I'll thank them tomorrow.'
Next he opened Sirius' letter. It read:
Harry,
I'm on assignment for Dumbledore, so I couldn't send your gift. I'll give it to you the next time I see you. I have to go now.
Tell me if your scar hurts or you have any dreams.
Bye,
Sirius
Harry smiled. "That must mean that I get to see Sirius sometime soon."
The next one was from Hagrid. It read:
Harry,
Happy Birthday!
Been on a mission for Professor Dumbledore. Can't tell ya wha' i' is tho. How've ya been?
If yer wonderin' about the gift, it was yer mum's. Saved it from the house meself. It was the only thin' tha' wasn't blasted; s'pose she put an Unbreakable Charm on it.
Well, see ya at Hogwarts.
Hagrid
Harry looked up from the letter confused. He opened the package, and there was a book with the entire Evens family tree in it. This was the only- no wait- the second thing he owned that was his mum's. The first thing was a diary.
***Flashback***
Seven-year-old Harry Potter was in his cupboard, when Dudley came pounding down the stairs. Nothing new. Then all of a sudden, a small cubbyhole he had never seen before dropped something on him. He stood up, (I kind of think of him as short enough to do that.) and did an examination of the hole. "No wonder I never noticed it," he thought, "it was covered with a piece of wood." He looked for the object that had fallen on him. It was a diary. He opened it, and started reading. It read:
Dear Diary,
This is my first day at Hogwarts. I'm in Gryffindor! I have some new friends. Their names are Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Arabella Figg, and James Potter.
Here Harry stopped. They were friends with his dad? He looked to see whose diary it was. Lily Evens. Wasn't that his mum?
He read the entire diary. He finally understood why he was with the Dursleys instead of with his other family. Yes other family. He was good at acting, so he acted as though he were Harry Potter. But he wasn't, and no one else knew that.
He acted as though he didn't know about magic, or Voldemort, Death Eaters, his fame, and Hogwarts.
When Hagrid came most of the act was over. All except for the truth. The truth about his other family, and who they were, and how they were related to him.
***End Flashback***
Harry shook himself out of it. "The spell will wear off and the truth will come out soon enough."
Harry decided to open the one from Professor Dumbledore now. It read:
Harry,
The charms keeping you safe at the Dursley's house will wear off in a week. We're sending someone from the school to come and pick you up. The spells cannot be replaced. See you at Hogwarts.
Headmaster Dumbledore
Harry smiled (he does that a lot, doesn't he). He was leaving the Dursleys, most likely for forever.
He turned to Hermione's letter. It read:
Harry,
Happy birthday.
I hope you like the gift.
I have to go; sorry it's so short.
Love from,
Hermione
Harry opened the gift; it was a book. "Big surprise." thought Harry with a grin. He looked at the tittle: "Curses and Counter-Curses." Harry wasn't surprised, what with the return of Voldemort and all.
He turned to the last letter, the one from Hogwarts. He opened it and it read:
Mr. Potter,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been chosen as Gryffindor Quidditch Team Captain.
Enclosed is a list of books and supplies that you will need for the coming year.
Professor McGonagall
Professor McGonagall,
Deputy Headmistress
Harry smiled (yet again), turned over, and went to sleep.
*****
The next morning Harry looked into the mirror and saw that his hair was a lot longer than it was yesterday. It was now to the nape of his neck. He grinned and thought, "Soon the charm will wear off, and the truth will come out." He also noticed that he grew a good three inches during the night.
Suddenly the doorbell rang downstairs.
His Uncle yelled, "Get the door, you lazy git!"
Harry sighed and thought, "That must be who they're sending to come and get me."
He walked slowly downstairs, but before he could reach the door, a frog sailed through the open window. As the frog disappeared from view, Harry noticed that it looked very familiar. He suddenly heard Aunt Petunia shriek, and whacking sounds coming from the kitchen. Harry suddenly recognized the frog, and dashed towards the kitchen to save the frog from Aunt Petunia's polka-dotted umbrella, before it was too late.
"Trevor!" yelled Harry, as Petunia screamed at the frog,
"Take that, you nasty little...little freak froggy!" and trying unsuccessfully to hit the frog. Harry quickly scooped up the frog, and started towards the unopened door. In the background, Aunt Petunia hollered "If I ever see that bloody-thing- again, I will squish it to a pulp!"
Harry opened the door, and there stood...
Sorry, that just felt like the right place to stop. Tell me if you like the story, hate it, or think it's the worst story in the world.
