Just a Hufflepuff
March 7, 1980
She was born on a beautiful day. Spring was nearing as slowly as winter left. The sun shone overhead the chilly breeze. Michael Abbott and Amelia Abbott had a baby girl that day.
'A screaming bundle of joy,' Mrs. Abbott was quoted.
'Destined for greatness!' Mr. Abbott had declared. Well, if Michael was correct at all, he wasn't right yet.
Hannah Grace Abbott trotted after her mother at King's Cross station.
"Hurry up, Hannah Grace, the train will be leaving soon!" her mother squawked. Hannah rolled her eyes and quickly brushed a lock of thin blond hair out of her face.
'My name is Hannah,' she thought bitterly. 'Not Hannah Grace.'
On the train, she had met two other girls. One, Susan Bones, and the other, Laura Medley. They were soon joined by a shy boy named Neville Longbottom, and another boy named Ernie Macmillian. From the start, Hannah could tell just how pompous this Ernie boy was. Bragging about how great he was on a broomstick, and how intelligent he was. Then came the moment she was told that the actual Harry Potter was also starting Hogwarts. As if on cue, the raven haired boy wandered past their compartment door. Hannah felt herself smile weakly. This year might not be so boring after all.
Six years later, she has different opinions on nearly everything. Susan Bones and Laura Medley are her best friends. Neville Longbottom is still quite shy, but very sweet. Hermione Granger is probably the most intelligent student at Hogwarts. Ron Weasley is the loveable sidekick to hero-boy Harry Potter. Hannah had heard a few stories from her gossiping friends about Harry's outbursts last year. The Abbott's were one hundred percent on the Ministry's side, much to Hannah's annoyance. How could someone so wonderful lie about something so important? Why must she blush every time he passes her in the hall? But don't feel bad for her, Hannah had a shot to bring attention to herself, but she passed it up. If she had only told someone what she saw, Harry Potter might not have gone through so much trouble. Then again, if she had told, poor Ginny Weasley may not have ever seen the inside of Hogwarts school ever again.
In her second year, Hannah Grace Abbott was walking towards the Hufflepuff dormitory from dinner. Blaise Zabini had made fun of her, so she left early. Wiping her eyes with her fists, she turned another corner. Pulling her hands away from her face, she stared in horror. Ginny Weasley was painting a message on the corridor wall. Hannah gasped audibly, but the red haired girl did not hear her.
"Ginny!" she exclaimed. The Griffindor still didn't hear her. Thoughts raced through her mind. Finally, she decided to ignore it. Sprinting past Ginny and the message, she ran up to the Hufflepuff Tower.
My one chance of a little attention, and I throw it away!
No one notices me, for I am just a Hufflepuff. I nearly blend in with the wallpaper. But sometimes that is hard when you're sitting next to pompous Ernie Macmillan. He'll clap on your shoulder and brag about how wonderful he is at Quidditch, or how high his exam scores are. If he's so good at Quidditch, why isn't he on the House team? And everyone thinks I (gag) like him? I'd rather snog the giant squid. Why did I go to the Yule Ball with him? Because there was no body left for plain Hannah Abbott!
There is hardly anything interesting about me. I get okay grades, I'm decent looking, and I'm hardly destined for greatness. There's one thing that makes my life worth living; and his name is Harry Potter. He doesn't know I exist, so I admire from afar. The D.A was the only place I could actually talk to him. He's so kind and modest, not anything you would expect a hero to be.
As a Hufflepuff, you'd think I love Herbology. Oh god no! I'm best at Charms, which happens to be my favorite. Although Flitwick is as entertaining as Ernie, he seems to favor me. So ha!
By now you know that my life is as dull as a piece of toast. Mind you, one day I'm going to confess to Harry. One day I'm going to do better in school than Hermione. One day I'm going to stand up to those Slytherins. One day I'm going to put more toes out of line than the Weasley twins. One day I'm going to fly better than Oliver Wood. One day I'm going to be better looking than Fleur Delacour. For one day, I'm going to drone on about my dreams, which never seem to happen.
Sorry, but I have to go now. Laura needs help on her homework. Susan says that Draco (whom is sitting in the common room, Susan has a little 'crush' on him) is in another bragging drone and he needs a taste of reality. Zacharius Smith needs help on a revenge plan against someone, most likely a Slytherin. Elenor Branstorm needs a few tips on flying. Megan Jones just got lipstick all over her teeth. And Harry said he needs to ask me something.
Sigh, my life is just so dull
