"Here Without You"

It was over. The hell that had lasted for five years was finally over. It was still hard to believe sometimes, because in any direction that you turned, remnants of the war were all around you. Many cried in disbelief, happiness, and for some, unremitting sorrow.

War was hell; a quote that had never been more true. But for one man in particular, it was all that, and more. The victory that had come for the "good" side after five years of toil had been like a bitter taste in his mouth shortly after the last battle.

Harry James Potter had fulfilled the prophecy made before his birth; he had triumphed over Voldemort. But shortly afterwards, he found that the ultimate price had been paid for the ridding of this evil. He lost the only woman he had ever truly loved to Death Eaters.

Ginny. Ginny Weasley. Virginia Mary Weasley.

Because of all the strategy underway, they had been in different sections when the real fighting had started. And it ate him up inside knowing he would never see her alive again.

A hundred days have made me older, since the last time that I saw your pretty face

A thousand lights have made me colder, and I don't think I can look at this the same

But all the miles that separate us

They disappear now, when I'm dreaming of your face

I'm here without you baby, but you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby, and I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby, but you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight girl, it's only you and me

Everyone was hurting terribly over her loss. Even though she was just one of many casulties, her loss was deeply felt by her family, friends, and the only man she ever loved.

The sympathy and the pity for Harry and the Weasley family was sometimes so intense, that sometimes he didn't think he could take it. People seemed to want to reach out, pat him on the arm, or back, and tell him it would get better with time. What a joke!

The miles just keep rolling, as the people stop either way to say hello

I hear this life is overrated, but I hope it gets better as we go

It was a bitter pill to swallow, knowing he would have to go on living without her. Some days, the only thing that kept him going was the vivid dreams he had at night. It was probably pathetic, but his dreams were keeping momentarily alive.

I'm here without you baby, but you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby, and I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby, but you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight girl, it's only you and me

Everyday he tortured himself by reliving how they had come together, bound by common experiences, a strong friendship, and the people around them they both loved.

It had been at Christmas, during his sixth, and her fifth years at Hogwarts that they had quit fighting the feelings they had been having since August of that year.

Everyone had been happy to see them together. But Harry had been really worried; worried that Voldemort would find out, and use Ginny against him. But Ginny had told him he was crazy if he thought she was gonna let him be "noble", and stay away just to keep her safe. Her stubborness won out. And it hadn't mattered anyway. It wasn't Voldemort who got her; it was a Death Eater with a lucky shot.

They had loved more than he thought possible; more than anyone could love for a thousand lifetimes. They had married; but in secret. Not knowing what the outcome of the war would be, they had used a clever idea of Hermione's. She enchanted two lockets for them. In each one was a lock of the other's hair. They swore to wear them at all times; never take them off. The charm placed on these lockets was one that could only be opened by passwords, known only to the wearers of each opposite locket. When opened, they would recite their wedding date in the other's voice, also telling who performed the ceremony.

But for safety's sake, until the war was over, no written record was kept of their marriage, nor could Ginny be yet known as Ginny Potter. Of course, Mother Nature has an unusual sense of humor, and five months later, Ginny had to go into hiding. Harry would never forget the night he was whisked away to her hiding place to witness the birth of their daughter. Lily Virginia Potter.

And now, how in Merlin's beard was he going to raise their daughter without her?!

Everything I know, and anywhere I go

It gets hard, but it won't take away my love

And when the last one falls, when it's all said and done

It gets hard, but it won't take away my love

I'm here without you baby, but you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby, and I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby, but you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight girl, it's only you and me

He felt lucky to have the Weasley family's support, because he didn't know how he and Baby Lily would have got through.

His beautiful daughter; Merlin help him! She was Ginny made over in every way, except that she had his brilliant green eyes.

But they would be alright; together they would make it through. He had his beautiful memories, and someday he would proudly share them with Lily.

I'm here without you baby, but you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby, and I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby, but you're still with me in my dreams

But tonight girl, it's only you and me.............
