Chapter Nine: Present, Past, Future
Hermione was sleeping in her bed when she began to feel a little chilly. She looked up to see the window hanging wide-open. She went to close it. After she closed the window, she then headed back towards her bed. Before she sat down, a ghost became visible to her.
She looks like Harry in the eyes, Hermione thought. I wonder what his mother looked like.
"That's because I am his mother Hermione," Lily said.
Hermione was a prefect. Even though she was one, she still had convinced Professor Dumbledore for her own room. With some luck, she went back to the common room and had also gained her own room in the process.
"No offense, but aren't you dead?" Hermione asked.
Lily really didn't look dead like a ghost would. She had this radiant glow that shone through her face.
"I am here to offer you two trips and three questions you may have about your future or somebody else's," Lily said. "That and guessing the look on your face, Harry never came to you the other day when I told him to."
"Yes Madam," Hermione said politely.
"Dear, please just call me Lily," Lily said.
"Alright Lily," Hermione said. "And what was it you were saying about the two trips and three questions?"
"As you can see, I am here for a purpose," Lily said. "That is to show you your past, from wherever you like in that area and to show you of your future. The three questions can be asked anytime during the trips. But I must warn you, do not speak of this to Harry at all. I have plans for him in the near future."
"Yes Lily," Hermione said. "Past or future first?"
"Oh I believe you know that answer full well my dear," Lily said.
"Right," Hermione said. "Past it is then."
"I am calculating that perhaps you would like to see your mother again or perhaps your grandmother?" Lily asked, as she noticed Hermione's eyes light up with intensity.
"I would like that very much so," Hermione said.
"Very well my dear," Lily said. "Take my hand and we'll go."
Hermione took her hand and then Lily began to lead them into the past of Hermione's childhood.
The walls of Hogwarts, or rather Hermione's room, began to fade through time, she began to see the trees around her grandmother's cottage. It was a pretty cottage. Only her mother and grandmother lived there. She had never seen her father, not once in her whole life. Of course, she had seen her mother's new husband and all but that was different. He wasn't her father, or at least her real father that is. She had never known her real father.
"Hermione?" Lily asked. "You ready to go further than this?"
"Could we go back to see my father?" Hermione asked. "That counts as one of the questions, am I right?"
"Yes, but only as one, your second question just while ago, won't count against you," Lily said. "And yes we can, you never did get to see your father did you?"
"No, I didn't," Hermione said. "I've always just grown up with my mum and grandmother."
By now, they were in France somewhere, Paris, by the looks of it. Lily began looking for who she was seeking and then pointed them out to Hermione.
"See there Hermione?" Lily asked, pointing to the water fountains. "By the water fountains, sitting is your mother and there is your father near by her."
I wish I could see him closer, Hermione thought.
Wish granted, Lily thought, as she heard Hermione's wish.
Instantly, they were only about a foot or two away from Hermione's mother and father. Her mother and father seemed to be having an argument. The words of their argument became clear to Hermione, not to mention hurtful.
"What do you mean you don't want any part of this child's life? It's your child too," Hermione's mother argued.
"How do I know it's my child?" Hermione's father asked, in return. "How do I know it's not some other man's child instead of mine?"
"If you truly knew me, you wouldn't dare even ask that question," Hermione's mother spat back.
"Why should I believe you?" Hermione's father asked. "If it is mine, then why did you wait until you were showing to finally tell me?"
"I could never found the right time," Hermione's mother argued. "Then I thought this morning, it'd be the perfect time. Apparently, as I can see, you wish to have no part of this child's life."
I wish I never saw this, Hermione thought. But I would like to visit him once I get to the present time.
"I can do that for you when we get back to the present Hermione," Lily said. "And if you like, I'll speak to Professor Dumbledore about getting me a stable human form for a day or two so I could take you."
Hermione then went into Lily's arms.
"Thank-you Lily," Hermione said. "Could we visit the future now? I'm rather tired of seeing the past."
"Sure sweetie," Lily said who didn't blame her.
Lily didn't have control over what they saw in the past. The only past that she could control was her and James'. Plus what she could control was just part of who was there. If she did have control over it, then she would never have let Hermione see what she had just seen.
Like before, Hermione began to see her surrounding around her begin to fade into a bright light, but yet not a blinding light. If anything, it was a beautiful light. Nothing but beautiful. Hermione began to see her future.
They came to a beautiful yellow two-story house somewhere in Ireland, it looked like. There were white, yellow and red roses planted everywhere outside the house. Snapdragons, lilies, marigolds, cannas, any type of flowers you could think of, were right outside the house. There was a little stairway to the front door. It was very pretty.
Next thing Hermione knew, she was now inside the beautiful house. She could now hear voices.
Hermione went closer so that she could hear the voices more clearly. She saw two people in the kitchen, who seemed to be happy. They were also making out.
"Go look Hermione," Lily said. "It'll do you a bit of good. Besides the people in there can't see you, only you can see them."
Hermione went and looked around the corner, to where the couple was. They didn't look like anybody she knew. In fact, the girl looked a little like someone she knew. The man seemed to look like Ginny, the features in his face; the eyes ... looked like Ginny. And not to mention, a little like somebody else she knew.
Hermione turned to Lily and asked, "Is this who I think it is?"
"I don't know," Lily replied, with a little cheery tone. "You tell me."
Hermione then went closer and listened to their conversation a little bit.
"Lillian, sweetheart, I love you," the man said. "You do know that don't you?"
Lillian, the girl that was in front of him and also in his arms answered, "Yes I do. And I love you too Adrian."
Adrian then lowered himself on the ground on one knee, held Lillian's hand in his, pulled out a little velvet-like box out of his pocket, opened it and held it out for her to see; he then said, "Lillian Rose Potter, will you marry me?"
Lillian began to have tear up as she then reached out to take the black velvet box out. The ring had at least 3 diamonds on it. The band was 14 karat gold.
She hugged his neck, causing him to stumble backwards a little but he maintained his balance.
"Well Lillian?" Adrian asked. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes!" Lillian said as she then put the ring on her finger and then kissed him.
Hermione looked back at Lily with teary eyes.
"Lily, that was the most beautiful sight I think I've ever seen," Hermione said. "I'm glad you took me on this adventure."
"Your welcome my dear," Lily said. "Let me remind you, you have two questions left."
"Ok," Hermione said. "Question number one, is Lillian my daughter?"
"Yes," Lily said. "Question two?"
"Are you my future mother-in-law?" Hermione asked.
"Yes Hermione," Lily said. "I am."
Hermione then jumped up into the air in complete utter joy and gleam.
"May we go back now?" Hermione asked.
"Sure," Lily said, as she took ahold of Hermione's hand and took them back to Hermione's room at Hogwarts.
They were now back.
"Hermione, remember, you must not say anything about this to Harry. He cannot know about this. This must remain a secret," Lily said.
"Yes Ma'am," Hermione said. "Thank-you Lily."
"You're welcome dear," Lily said, and then she disappeared from Hermione's sight.
Hermione then fell back onto her bed and looked at the clock. It had only been about an hour or so since she left. She went to sleep.
