Chapter Eleven - A change in sides

Draco stood at the opposite end of the kitchen. He stood, holding onto the edge of the counter, his knuckles turning white, him eyeing the three wands, which pointed at him, warily.

Melly bounded in, and skidded to a halt, in between Draco and the wands.

"Melly, Granger has my wand," Draco said venomously. "How did she get it? How did she get in here? Why aren't you killing them?" he shouted.

Melly smiled and shrugged. "I let them in," she said.

All three of them, "What?" in unison.

"Yeah, I thought it'd be fun to scare them out of their wits every now and then. It was fun, though!"

"And yet, she still has my wand, Melly!" Draco bellowed.

Melly laughed nervously. "And that's for a reason..."

Draco sighed and crossed his arms over his chest, holding his hand out, allowing her to proceed. "And yet, I still don't have my wand..."

"So you wouldn't harm them once you woke."

"And, why was I sleeping?"

"You were knocked out."

"How?" Draco's voice was getting threatening.

"Uh, Ron banged your head against the wall?"

"Is that why I was bleeding?"

"You mean you're not bleeding anymore?" Melly asked, anxiously.

Draco glared at her. "And yet...I still don't have my wand!"

Melly sighed dejectedly. She turned to Hermione, and motioned for her to give Melly the wand. Hermione did, hesitantly, and Melly gave it to Draco. Draco grabbed the wand, and pointed it at the two girls in front of him. Except, Melly wouldn't move.

"Melly, move."

"No," she said.

Draco rolled his eyes. "Please move?"

"I won't let you harm them." She looked at Affinity, and then back at Draco. "Actually, I don't mind about her," she jerked her head towards Affinity. "But...Hermione is a different story."

"Melly," Hermione hissed.

She sighed. "Fine...You can't harm Affinity either." She sneered.

Why are you always insistent on doing what your old friends ask of you? Faith asked.

Its called guilt, dead woman, Severus was heard.

Severus, now isn't the time, Melly thought. You too Mother!

"And, what if I do?" Draco asked, pointing his wand at Affinity, who repeated his action.

Melly bit her lip and looked at Hermione. "I'll hate you forever," she said, looking back at him. "I don't want you to kill them."

Draco lowered his wand and looked disbelievingly at her. Hate him forever? She couldn't do that, could she? He wouldn't be able to stand it if she hated him.

"Can you specify hate?" Draco asked stupidly.

Melly rolled her eyes. "I wouldn't talk to you, ever again. I wouldn't look at you! I would avoid you as much as I can! You know what being hated feels like!"

Draco looked down and nodded.

That's when Melly knew she went too far. She turned to Affinity and Hermione. "Go see Harry and Ron, I'm sure they want to know what's going on."

Hermione nodded, and grabbed Affinity's arm, who stood, dumbfounded at Draco. As soon as they left, Melly turned to Journey.

"Make sure they don't escape."

Journey nodded.

Melly turned back to Draco. She walked up to him, and pulled him into an embrace. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

So, did this mean Sherry really hated him? She didn't know, and she didn't want to press the matter further.

"Why?" Draco asked her. He looked at her. "Why? You are Voldemort's daughter. You're going against him?"

Melly shook her head, but nodded, then shook her head, then nodded. She didn't know if she was against him or not.

"Well, he is my father, and I hope for the best for him," she started. "But, I don't want him to have Harry, alive or dead. I just want him to stop this foolishness."

"Is it because of Weasley?" he asked.

Melly blinked. "What is?"

"The reason why you don't want Potter dead? You don't want him dead or going to the dark side because of Weasley?"

Melly nodded.

"You really do love him?"

Again, Melly nodded.

"Well, hopefully you don't have to go through what I had to go through. Then again, Weasley isn't at all like Sherry."

Melly shook her head.

"You know I wouldn't live a happy life if you hated me as well."

Melly nodded. "I know."

"What are going to do with Granger and the other?"

Melly shrugged. She didn't want to tell him her plans that she promised Ron, about helping them escape. She didn't want to tell him her promise to Harry that she wouldn't let any harm come to them. She couldn't tell him anything. He was Lucius Malfoy's son. Lucius Malfoy was closer to Voldemort than she was herself. If Draco let anything slip in front of his father, she would be ruined, as would he.

"Tell me. I promise I won't tell anyone. I'll be with you the whole way."

"Really?" Melly raised an eyebrow. "Even if it does mean going against Lord Voldemort, and your father, and everything you ever learned and grew up learning?"

"Uh, sure, why not?"

Melly shook her head. "Fine, whatever. Here it is: I'm going to help Hermione, Harry, Affinity, Ron, and Mala all escape. Even if it does mean Ron is going to spend the rest of his life with Affinity."

Draco was at loss for words. She couldn't do that! She would get killed! And so would he, as he just told her he would be with her the whole way. What a stupid thing to say. He should've known it was going to be something serious like that.

"Well?"

"I, uh..." What could he say? He couldn't go against her, and yet, he couldn't go against his master either.

Master?

Draco Malfoy has no master. What did he get himself into? He got himself into a cult with a master! He was taught never to be under anybody, but always on top, the higher achiever. He was taught not to answer to anybody. He answered to Sherry, and look where it got him. Draco Malfoy had a master.

"You say that is going against my life?" Draco asked. Melly nodded. "No. Falling in love was going against my life. I fell in love, did whatever she told me to, and look where it landed me. Can you believe I have a master? So, it wouldn't matter if I helped you or not. I'm not going to tell anyone. I will not be run by a master."

Melly smiled. She hugged him. "There's the Draco Malfoy I grew up with during school."

"Damn you for bringing him back."

Melly laughed. She grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the room, and to where the others were.

They were all unsure that they trusted Draco with their secret planning, in which Melly had now, uninvitingly, became a part of. Ron was the first to agree to having Draco in with the plan.

Draco smiled and shook his head in pity. What men will do for women. He was glad he got out of that, and it was thanks to Melly, his father, Voldemort, and Sherry, for making him see what he was becoming.

Harry had to hand it Melly. Never before had she sparked an interest in him after what she did to Ron and Hermione and himself back at school, at the library, the day after Valentine's Day. She had a way of making people turn to her when she needed them. Of course, when she turned to him, he shunned her aside, and ratted on her. He thought his question was answered then, but he was mistaken.

"If my life was in the hands of Voldemort, would you save me?"

She saved him all right. Once, she saved him when his life was in the hands of Voldemort. On his birthday, just that morning. He had to repay her somehow. But, he didn't know how.

He decided not to think on it at that time, for they were all in the middle of discussing their escape plan. He would think on it later, for this was the time for escape. He would finally be free, and out of the dark, dank dungeon that he had adopted as home for a few weeks of his lifetime.
