Chapter Ten - Back to the old ways

"Yes? What do you want?"

"I would like to talk to you before you leave," Melly said hesitantly, walking into the parlor. "I want to ask a favor, if that's a correct word for it..."

"What?" Voldemort turned to her, annoyance in every cell of his deformed snake-like body.

"We, that is, Mother and me, we would like it very much if you put Severus and myself telepathic to each other once again. When I escaped from Hogwarts, I had no idea that it would break our connection. I'm sorry for that. Please?" Melly looked almost desperate. "I really am getting tired of having my mother giving me unfair orders in my head, day after day."

And that I like Severus, and we both missed his company...

I'm not going to say that. Melly surpassed the urge to roll her eyes. Like he'll believe we want him that badly. Even if we do want him that badly.

Voldemort nodded. "If it will get you off my back? Then I will send for him immediately. Go on about your way."

---

Melly walked into the dungeons, looking happier like she was the day before. She walked into Ron's cell, Ron watching how she opened it, and sat herself down in front of him.

"Now, Do you still have my bracelet?" she asked. "Hermione still has mine. She was wearing it when she came to see me."

Ron nodded. He dug inside his pocket and took it out. Melly was entranced at the cleanliness he kept it, and how perfect it was as if it was bought just ten minutes ago.

She held out her hand, and Ron set it in. She examined it. The sparkling silver of the color, the soft texture, the shining diamond in the middle of the cross.

"You did keep it," she whispered.

Ron nodded. "I couldn't stand it when she touched it. I felt that if she touched it any way, it would be contaminated from its originality, and its original owner."

"I'm sorry, again, Ron. Just say the word, and, as soon as I can make my schedule free, I will free you and Harry and Mala. I freed Mala once before, and I can do it again. I love you, Ron."

Ron stared back in her eyes. So, she finally decided to get her feelings straightened out, and she knew where her loyalties lie. Wouldn't Harry be proud of him? Converting Melly into the light side.

Movement behind her caught his eye. He looked up and saw Draco Malfoy, red in the face.

Ron stood up, and glared at Draco. He had no wand, and so he had nothing better to do.

Melly stood up as well and turned around. She gasped and jumped, dropping her bracelet on the floor.

Draco pushed the door open, and grabbed her wrist. He pushed her against the wall opposite of Ron's door.

"What do you think you're doing?" Draco yelled. "If I was Master Voldemort, you will be dead right now!"

"Oh, yeah, like I could help anything!" Melly spat back.

"You will not free them. Not unless they are dead, will they step foot out of the dungeons, by order of your father!"

"You know what, Draco?" Melly wanted to come up with a smart comeback, but nothing came up. She winced at the pain emitting from her wrists. "You're hurting me, Draco."

"Just be glad that's all I'm doing," he sneered. "I could hex you to oblivion if I felt like it, you traitor! I wonder what your father will say about it. Remember when I said that you would be severely punished for choosing the wrong side to put your loyalties? You will be severely punished!"

Melly closed her eyes, and shook her head. "I am not a traitor!"

Suddenly, Draco's tight clench on her wrists were gone, and she heard something hit the stone next to her, and then something fall. She opened her eyes, and gasped and jumped back at seeing Draco, unconscious on the ground, a small trickle of blood going down his forehead.

She looked up at Ron, nearly red in the eyes. He stood in front of her, out of his cell.

She shook her head. "Journey!" she called. Within an instant, Journey was at her side, and gasped at the sight of Draco. "Ron, get back in the cell. I'll free you and Harry later, now is not a good time."

Ron looked down at Draco, and slowly backed up into his cell, closing the door quietly.

Melly and Journey carried Draco down the hall, and stopped in front of a specific room.

I can't pretend anymore, Melly thought to her mother. I need them to take care of him.

But, your plan will be ruined!

I had no plan! I just wanted to have Hermione and Harry reunited, and I have accomplished that. Now, I need them to do something for me.

She opened the door, and she and Journey walked in.

Affinity and Hermione gasped. Melly looked helplessly at Hermione. She got the message, and stepped forward, but was stopped by Affinity.

"You're fraternizing with the enemy!" she scolded.

"Melly is my friend," Hermione replied. "She needs my help."

Melly set Draco down next to the cooler. "Hermione, get me some ice, Journey, I need some bandages."

Journey conjured up a roll of gauze quickly, and Hermione gave her an ice pack.

Melly put the ice pack on Draco's forehead where she thought the gash was.

Affinity stood back, and watched as Melly cared for him and Hermione help.

"What happened to him?" Hermione asked. "Not that I care or anything," she added as soon Melly gave her an odd look.

Melly sighed and turned back to Draco, still sleeping. "Ron pushed him against the wall after he called me a traitor."

"Why did he call you a traitor?" Hermione asked.

Melly looked at her, but at Affinity.

"She's right. I believe you're the only one for him."

"I know."

"I can't say," Melly said, turning back to Draco. "I need him to wake up."

"Not while we're here!" Hermione said frighteningly. "He'll turn us in!"

Melly shook her head, giving Hermione the ice pack; she rummaged through his clothes, finding what she wanted. She took back the ice pack, and gave Hermione his wand.

"If he wakes up, show him his wand, and point your wands at him. He'll behave, believe me." She stood up. "I must go. Journey, you stay here with them. As soon as he wakes, come for me."

With that said, she stormed out of the room.

"Why don't we just kill him now?" Affinity asked, walking up to Hermione's side.

"One, because I don't think it will go lightly with the ministry if we use any killing curse."

"And, two?"

"He's Melly's friend, I have to do as she wishes for his safety."

---

Melly appeared in the parlor just as Severus and her father walked through the other door.

"Ah! Melly! I was just going to send for you." Voldemort indicated for Severus and Melly to take a seat.

They sat next to each other, neither speaking a word.

"Now, let's get this over and done with," Voldemort said, pointing his wand at Melly, who winced. She never really gotten over the fright of being pointed at, regardless if it's a wand or someone pointing with a finger. He muttered the same nonsense that she heard so many years ago. He then turned to Severus, and did the same thing. Within seconds, she heard a different voice in her head.

God, what I wouldn't give to be assigning monstrously hard work for the first years right about now?

Melly tried hard not to laugh.

"Did it work?" Voldemort asked.

Melly nodded, putting her hand over her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Oh yeah, it worked..."

"Good, I'm leaving now..."

Voldemort left, without a backward glance or anything.

Hello again, Melly, Severus thought.

Okay, rules still apply from last time. Melly glared at him. You're not allowed to say anything about my thoughts unless I'm actually thinking to you. Deal?

Do I have a choice?

No...

"Miss! Master Draco is awake!" Journey squeaked in an instant.

Melly jumped up and ran into the dungeon. Good bye Snape!

She ran to the kitchen, receiving odd looks from Harry, Mala, and Severus. Ron didn't get a chance to see her run by, as his back was to the door, and his forehead banging on the stone wall.
