Chapter two-Something's Wrong with Sirius

The first week wasn't really exciting. Lynn had to deal with nasty stares, nasty remarks and anything else from the Marauders.

For example. During note taking and lectures in DADA, Professor Jayme was about to explain Defensive Charms, when Lynn raised her hand. Professor Jayme nodded to Lynn.

She grabbed a bundled up piece of paper from the ground, then stood up and walked towards the back. She stopped right next to James.

"What is your problem?" She nearly shouted. She held the paper ball in her hand, then threw it with all her might on him.

He stood up and glared down at her.

"What kind of person throws paper?" She asked him, unaware of the stares they were getting. If she saw that Maggie was grinning from ear to ear, she wouldn't be able to control herself.

"Well," James said, quietly. "Apparently you, because you just threw a ball of paper at me."

Lynn started to breathe heavily, fighting the urge to slap him.

Without hesitation, Maggie stood up and ran to her side. "Leave her alone What."

"I didn't do anything. She was the one who came up to me." James didn't take his eyes off her.

"That's not what I meant."

"What did you mean?"

"You know perfectly well what I meant. Why did she come up to you? STOP THROWING PAPER!"

Professor Jayme walked up to the fight as soon as Sirius stood up and stood at his friend's side, staring at Lynn.

The class groaned. They really wanted to see a fight.

"Fifty points to each of you for disturbing my class and being disrespectful. Detention, my room, tonight."

Sirius and Maggie went to sit down. Lynn and James stood for a while longer, glaring at each other, then both turned from each other and sat down.

Lynn slumped down, and grabbed her quill and began taking notes quite forcefully.

She stopped writing as her hand was starting to ache from handling the quill so forceful. She sighed, then leaned back in her chair. She figured she would get the notes from Maggie.

She rubbed her hand and looked around the classroom. She noticed that most of the class was glaring at her when they got the chance. She also noticed that most of the class was of girls. She looked around the room, and noticed that all the girls, except for her and Maggie, were glaring her way. She looked back at the front of the class, and sat there like that for the rest of the class.

Detention that night wasn't any better. They had to write one hundred sentences.

"I will...not start...fights...in...class," Sirius said as he wrote the words as soon as Professor Jayme had left. He every now and then stole glances at Lynn. Every time he would look at her, he would see that she and James would be glaring at each other. He didn't even think they started writing.

Maggie, after each sentence would look nervously between the two. She sighed when she finished, giving the two another nervous look. She sat there and waited for Lynn to finish.

Sirius did the same.

"You finished Mags?" Lynn asked, breaking the silence. It was so sudden that the two others flinched.

Maggie nodded. "I've been done for a long time, Lynn."

"Good." She stood up and grabbed her parchment and walked to Professor Jayme's desk. She placed the parchment down, and Maggie did the same. They walked out without a second glance at the two stunned Marauders.

Sirius, being curious, stood up and walked to the desk. Surely she turned in a blank parchment. He looked at the two completed parchments. Her name and everything. All one hundred sentences. He turned to James.

"Did she write at all?" he asked him.

James shook his head. "I didn't." He looked at Sirius suspiciously. "Why?" Sirius motioned for him.

James walked to him, and his eyes got big as he looked at the completed detention parchment.

"How did she do that?"

Sirius shrugged. "You better hurry up and finish. I don't want to be here all night."

---

In the common room, Lynn turned to Maggie. There were now sitting in their usual seats close the Marauders' corner. The reason for sitting so close to them was to hear if they said anything worth knowing.

"Thank you, Mags," Lynn said. "My hand was still sore from earlier, and I didn't want to make it worse."

Maggie smiled. "Of course. Hell, I could have written everyone's sentences and we'd all be out of there in less than five minutes."

Just as she said this, Lily ran into the room. She pulled Lynn's arm and told her to follow. She and Maggie did as Lynn was told.

Remus and Peter, who had been sitting in their usual chairs doing homework and waiting for the other two, decided to follow, just to see why Evans was so worked up.

Lily took the two girls down to the very bottom floor of the Grand Staircase. Lynn saw a flash of light coming from the Entrance Hall.

Lynn took the lead in running, having Lily, Maggie, Remus, and Peter follow.

She stopped suddenly as she saw the source of light. By now, the three girls were aware of Remus and Peter following, but they didn't care.

Lynn took out her wand and pointed it at James. He and Sirius had cornered Sev, and three were now dueling, two to one; the duel in the Marauders' favor.

"Go find Professor Yeager," Lynn said to Maggie. Lynn, Lily, Remus, and Peter all joined their friends' side.

The three original duelers were surprised to see their reinforcements.

Lynn had stepped in front of Sev, and Lily at his side. Lynn had her wand pointing straight at James' heart. She was near crying at this point.

"Throw another curse at him, What! I dare you!" she shouted. She reached behind her and grasped Sev's hand. He squeezed it, indicating that he thanked her for her help. "YOU DO, AND I'LL HEX YOU SO DAMN BAD THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO GO TO ST. MUNGO'S!"

"Look at me," James said sarcastically, keeping his voice down, "I'm so scared I'm shaking." His own wand now pointing at her heart.

Remus placed his hand on James' shoulder. "Don't do anything stupid," he whispered. "Smith was told to go find Professor Yeager. You could get expelled."

James looked at Sirius. He had lowered his wand when Lynn appeared.

What is with him? James thought.

"Ah...who cares?" Peter said, taking out his wand. "You could take 'em Prongs!"

James looked back at the three, and now noticed that Lily's wand was also up along with the other two. Her wand was also pointed at him. He swallowed. He couldn't take on Evans. Even if she was threatening him with her life. He lowered his wand and sighed.

Remus and Peter looked surprised and confused at the two in front of them. Sirius would never lower his wand in the presence of Snape, no matter who was guarding him, and James wouldn't let a little threat get to him...especially if it was from Miller.

James looked at Lily, who was almost as close to tears as Lynn was, only difference was, Lynn was in tears.

"G-giving up, W-what?" Lynn choked. "You're not gonna give up now, are ya?"

"What in the name of Merlin is going on?" Professor Yeager cut in before James could answer. She looked from the Marauders, then to the three still holding out their wands to them. She gasped when she saw Lynn. "Miss Miller, are you okay?"

Maggie ran to her.

Lynn nodded. "W-what and B-black decided it would be f-funny to start cursing Sev."

Professor Yeager looked expectantly at the two. "Is this true?"

James looked at her speechless. Sirius looked at Lynn, feeling torn up to see her crying and holding onto Sev's hand.

"Well, you see Professor, I-I mean-we were just...and then he..." began James.

"Yes, it's true," Sirius said, still looking at Lynn. Everyone turned to him, all eyes wide. "Yes Professor." He didn't want to hurt Lynn than she already was.

In truth, let me explain his behavior towards Lynn.

In their first year, Sirius asked Lynn to go for a walk with him. Being an unsuspecting eleven-year-old, she agreed. She had been in love with him and all the other Marauders since the first day she laid eyes on them.

They talked for a long time, it seemed, until they got to the lake. Sirius had turned to look over the lake, and Lynn did as well. Once he saw her not looking at him, but marveling at the scene before her, he realized then just beautiful she was.

She smiled, but as she did so, Remus and Peter came up behind her and pushed her in. The two laughed as she flailed her arms about and screaming. Sirius tried to manage to laugh, but wasn't that successful.

He was about to jump in, taking a step forward, when he heard a large splash. He looked over and saw Severus Snape swimming to her.

He grabbed her, told her that she was going to be all right, and dragged her to the edge of the water, and helped her out.

Sirius watched as Snape got out of the water after her, and helped her up. She was having trouble, what from coughing all that water she swallowed.

Lynn hugged Snape and cried onto his shoulder, whilst Snape glared at the three.

Sirius stared back, eyes wide in anger, and the other two were still bursting in laughter. He walked over to Snape.

Lynn saw that he was coming, and quickly hid behind Snape, shivering, since it was cold.

Snape and Sirius stood glaring at each other...Snape, because Sirius endangered this poor girl...Sirius, because Snape jumped in right when he was going to, and now she was afraid of him.

Sirius watched her shivering behind Snape, and now, four years later, he watched her protecting him.

It's true...Sirius Black does love someone, but that someone is one of his sworn enemies. How could he live like that?

Lynn looked at him in bewilderment. Had Sirius just admitted in cornering Sev? He wouldn't have done that earlier in the week, when they all had that dueling session go on that Mac so perfectly stopped, just as planned.

Sirius and Lynn stood staring at each other. Sirius finally broke his gaze, and looked elsewhere. Does he really have a heart after all? She thought. No! I can't go on thinking like that.

Lynn realized she still had her wand pointing to James, so she slowly lowered it, obviously not listening to Professor Yeager scold James and Sirius.

For once, Lynn could tell that Sirius wasn't actually taking a punishment so well. She would have smiled if not for the circumstances, so she just conjured up her best "I've won and you've lost" look, and turned to Sev.

She looked in his eyes and smiled, and he smiled back. They embraced, then Lynn turned back to the punishing, with Sev's arm around her shoulder, and her head on his chest.
