Harry Potter and the Daughter of the Darkness

Chapter 1 : Sirius's Present

Yes, Harry loved this, the soft pitter-pattering of the rain hitting against the window. The loud, but soothing creek of Harry's bed, under him, as he moved, it comforted him. He also loved the delicate ticking of the clock next to his bed.

Ron's low, husky voice telling something to Hermione, and Hermione's medium-rare voice whispering something back. Harry loved their voices.

Unfortunately, the abnormally loud snores coming from Dudley's room and Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's room had awakened him. Harry was brought back into reality. He was dreaming of his friends (Ron and Hermione) and himself at Hogwarts, talking about nothing in particular, just talking. Sadly enough, Harry wasn't at Hogwarts or even with Ron or Hermione. Instead he was in Dudley's second bedroom, in a Muggle infested area (with the exception of a Squib next door) and hundreds of miles away from Hogwarts.

It couldn't get much worse, Harry thought dully. Oh, wait, it could!

His scar seared with pain....again.....just like it has been for the last year. This meant that Voldemort was feeling a strong emotion or something or other... Harry couldn't remember. Slowly, his friends smiling faces flooded around him and he drifted off to sleep, again.

Harry heard someone unlocking all the locks to his bedroom. The sun was glaring at him from outside the window. He guessed it was about twelve.

Uh-oh, Harry told himself. They only come into my room when they are REALLY angry.

Bracing himself, he was expecting for the worst, but what he got was the BEST! Ron and Hermione walked into his room carrying a birthday cake, followed by Mad-Eye, Remus, Tonks, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Hagrid, Fred, George, Ginny, Bill, Charlie and others from the Order of the Phoenix. They were each holding a present and singing "Happy Birthday" to Harry.

Is it my birthday? Harry questioned himself.

He looked across to the calendar on the far wall. The last marked day was...July 30!! He smiled in spite of himself.

"Happy Birthday to you!!!..." The song had ended.

"Ron!! Hermione!!" Harry exclaimed, throwing his arms around each of them. He was forgetting the fact that he only had his boxers on, but no one seemed to care. Harry gave each person a hug after that.

"We thought if you couldn't come to us, we'd come to you!" Ron stated happily. Harry looked around half-expecting for someone to be there; but he knew that he could not come. This person was Sirius. Lupin seemed to catch on to what he was thinking because he gave Harry two presents, not just one. Harry tore open the one of the notes and this is what that note said:

"Dear Harry,

Happy Birthday to you! Remember what we talked about 3 years ago? About you moving in with me? Well, I found a house in the country where the stars are very clear. I hope you like it. I was thinking about moving into it around December. Maybe you can move into it by the New Year! How exciting! Well, anyways, I thought you should have these things. Some of these mean a lot to me, so take good care of them, as I know you will. Happy Birthday again!

Love,

Sirius"

This made Harry's eyes fill up with tears, and he tried to fight them back. But when he looked up and saw all these loving faces, he let them trickle down one by one. Instantaneously, he felt Ron's awkward rubbing on his back and Hermione's soothing words getting whispered in his ear.

Harry wanted to open the present really bad, but something was telling him not to.... to save it for when he was alone. He put the present behind him and then got bombarded with presents. Harry had never gotten this many presents before in his life! He graciously thanked each one and made a mental note to not eat the cake Hagrid made him.

"Um.... Excuse me? Where are the Muggles?" Harry made a point to use wizard talk around wizards.

"Thought you never ask! We tied 'em up and told 'em not to make a peep until we let 'em out!" Hagrid seemed pleased with himself.

"Harry. Dear. We'll let you get dressed. Come down stairs when you're ready. Okay?" Mrs. Weasley was already pushing them down the stairs.

Harry hastily agreed.

As soon as he knew everyone was downstairs and accounted for, he started to investigate Sirius's present. It was square and flat. Maybe it was a picture of him and Sirius or something like that. Harry carefully unwrapped the old, moth-eaten wrapping paper covering the present. He thought his heart missed a beat. There were many things underneath the wrapping paper.

The first thing that had caught Harry's eye was a picture of a small cottage on a farm. This was the house that Sirius had mentioned in his note.

Underneath that, there were many papers, a few were the deed to the house, and another few were pictures of his parents and Sirius at Hogwarts. They were about his age.

The very last paper was Sirius's Will. He had rewritten it so it included Harry and not his parents. It was as if Sirius knew that this would become very important, very soon. Harry suddenly felt very, very ashamed. It surprised him to see that Sirius only had eight people on his Will, Harry, Remus, Dumbledore, Tonks, Mad-Eye, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley and Hagrid.

A few things on Sirius's Will hadn't surprised Harry as much, like Hagrid getting Buckbeck back, Dumbledore getting Number 12 Grimmwald Place, ¾ of Sirius' money going to Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Lupin getting all of Sirius' childhood memories and Tonks having to get all the family things. Mad-Eye Moody was not getting the Defense Against the Dark Arts stuff, but he was getting something called a Pythergery.

Whatever that is, it sure has a peculiar name. Harry thought. I will have to ask Sir-I mean, Remus what it is.

He was now silently sobbing. Harry had known Sirius' had loved him, probably more than anyone that he could remember (except for his parents), but not until he read what Sirius had left him. Harry then knew just how much Sirius loved him. He had left Harry: ¼ of his money, the deed to the farm house, everything his mum and dad had left Sirius with....Harry looked away quickly. He could not read anymore. He promised himself that he would finish reading it later.

Harry then ran into the shower, hoping to wash it all away, all the pain, suffering and sorrow, but a shower can not do that. After the shower Harry put Sirius' present underneath the loose floor board in his room and walk down the stairs.
