Prologue:

Hermione Granger, the 6th Year Prefect, patrolled the hall. Glancing at her silver wristwatch she read the time as 10pm. Excellent, my patrol is nearly over. She turned around in the pretence of making her way back to the Gryffindor Common Room, when she heard voices in a nearby classroom. She stopped, and crept silently towards it, pushing the slightly ajar door open. The room was clouded with darkness, and the voices stopped.

"OK, I know there's someone in here. I'm lighting my wand on the count of three unless you step out of the shadows. One, two..."

Footsteps approached her, and a piercing voice cut across the silence.

"Hold your Hippogriffs Granger. I'm leaving." And out of the shadows, stepped Pansy Parkinson. Hermione wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"Let me guess, that's Draco in the corner over there." She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.

Pansy glared. "For your information, I was the only one in here, I was doing my patrol. And now I'm leaving."

She turned to walk away, but Hermione's voice stopped her. "I'm not stupid you know. I heard two voices in there. My guess is it was Draco, who else would you be snogging?" She turned to light her wand and fish out the mystery person in the corner, but Pansy stepped in front of her.

"There is no one in here." Her words were slightly strained and over-pronunciated. "Now why don't you run a long and finish your patrol." She seemed adamant not to let her see inside, as she blocked her view. But Hermione refused to take no for an answer, and pushed past her, lighting her wand as she did. She found a person hovering in the corner, but it wasn't who she thought it was. As she lit up her face, she couldn't help but break into a smile.

"Blaise? Blaise Zabini? You were snogging Blaise Zabini? Oh, wait 'til Draco hears about this." She stifled a laugh, and turned to face a furious Pansy.

"We...how can you even think that! He was in here...breaking rules...what about your dear little boyfriend Ron, anyway?" She smirked, seemingly satisfied at the look on Hermione's face.

"What do you mean, what about Ron?" Her jaw set, and her eyes flashed. No one teased her about Ron, especially not Pansy.

"You might want to keep a better eye on him Granger. Make sure he's not, mucking around. In fact, you might want to go and have a look in the Charms classroom right now. That is, of course, if you are ready for the truth."

"And that might be?"

"That he's cheating on you." Her face set into a sneer.

"And I'm about to take your word for it Parkinson. As if." She turned and walked away, slamming the classroom door behind her, leaving Pansy and Blaise in the darkness once more. She glanced down the empty corridor. The Charms classroom is just around the corner...maybe I should just go and look. Her mind was doubtful, yet her heart strong. As if Hermione. Come on, Pansy just said that to get you agitated. Ron definitely wouldn't be cheating on you. Get a grip. But as it always did, her mind beat her heart, and she set off down the corridor to the Charms classroom. She turned the corner abruptly and stopped in front of the door. And much to her horror, she could hear a voice inside. With a trembling hand, she turned the doorknob...
